“I love this town and I’m trying to help in any way I can.” In her own right, Mitteis is also a hero. In 2010 she fought the scary battle against breast cancer and at this point continues with good health. “After chemo and radiation I told the doctor that I’ll run faster than the cancer, and I want to live to 120 with quality of life and then just stop. Now I’m back and running faster than ever,” she proudly states. Mitteis enjoys people. It’s evident in her business and the feeling she encourages there and in her contributions to the chamber and the town. Mitteis likes the people of Berthoud and it shows.

However, Mitteis is no longer a dispatcher and instead is the owner and manager of Blue Spruce Mobile Home Park that her parents started in 1967. “When we first came to Berthoud we didn’t expect to be here long. Dad died in 1979 and we came to help Mom into a senior facility. I tell people ‘we moved here temporarily 25 years ago,’” says Mitteis. Each year the Chamber presents a graduating Berthoud High School senior with a scholarship award from funds raised at the annual golf tournament. This year’s recipient is Troy Johnson. Troy will be attending Colorado State University in Ft. Collins in the fall. Troy’s award was presented by Michelle Cable with the Thompson School District and also, a Berthoud Chamber board ex-officio member.
