’ S JUNE NEWS...

OCT DTS GRADUATION // GRASSROOTSNEWS // MISSIONS TEACHING

OCTOBER DTS 2010 WRAP UP Once again another school has finished this March. This being my 8th school to be involved with, you would think that it becomes a bit of a routine saying goodbye and yet every time it is a really hard couple of weeks. This October School finished on a great note though, and I guess the most encouraging thing is seeing the change in everyone’s lives. Maintaining those changes over the next few months though, will be a challenge for each one as is usually the case after a DTS. I just have a real belief in my heart that they are going to be group of world changers. One of the incredible things thing that I jumped into right after DTS was this thing called ‘grassrootsnews’. What is Grassrootsnews? It is a network of news gatherers around the world, who are committed to reporting the news as it happens, from where it happens. Content comes from the people on the ground where the news is happening. So it is all about training and equipping people who are interested to get out there and have a voice. Loren Cunningham’s son is the one pioneering it with his years of experience and influence working on many Hollywood movies. He is convinced that this is an opportunity to help shape the world that we live in and already a number of key events have been captured by ‘grassrootsnews’ teams and been used by major news groups like CNN and BBC. I joined with YWAM Townsville, Perth, Kona, and Baja Mexico which were the first bases that came together to be trained. The more I am finding out about what kind of opportunity this really is, the more I am excited to see how God uses this to again share the things that are on his heart as news around the world is brought to a whole new level. During our training week the Japan earthquake clean up was underway. 4 ‘grassrootsnews’ reporters from YWAM Kona where sent over to begin capturing the news and as it turned out, just happened to be in a town as breaking news took place. If you saw the footage of the elderly lady and a younger guy being rescued after 8 days trapped in a house, that was the footage captured and reported on by the team. One of the real strengths that YWAM has to offer is that we are all over the world and are often trying to get to the places where everyone else is trying to leave. So now as our outreach teams head out on outreach they are being equipped to look for and report on any news stories that can be shared. Being a voice for the voiceless, and raising awareness on issues of importance.

3 SCHOOLS GRADUATE: Not only did the DTS graduate but also the School of Music in Missions, and the Introduction to Primary Health Care School.

YWAM MEDICAL SHIP: The ship is finished dry docking and is looking almost new ready for 6 months medical outreach in Papua New Guinea.

FIRST 2 WEEKS PNG OUTREACH. 1,459 services provided. 776 attended education seminars, gave away 1069 resources: toothbrushes, mosquito nets

CALLING PEOPLE TO MISSIONS SPEAKING ON MISSIONS. A definite highlight of this last year has been the opportunity to teach in the Discipleship Training courses that we run, most recently, the January ‘Not For Sale’ DTS. As I have been traveling and working in remote villages in Papua New Guinea and other nations around the world, I often come back after sharing a message of hope and salvation and seeing lives impacted for the gospel. However I leave knowing that the day after we have gone some women in the village will still be abused by their husbands, there will still be no access to education and people will still die because they drink water from swamps. I am convinced that we can do more and that the bible is not silent on these matters the Church has long seen as someone else's responsibility. So the goal of my teaching week in DTS is for me to challenge our view of missions and every persons need to use their gifts and talents in a way that dynamically engages the world around them. We spend time in the week talking about arts, micro finance, government, healthcare, education, justice, news and print media, science and gadgets, to name a few. Still I feel I am only just beginning to discover God’s heart and wisdom on the topic and I am excited about the next number of years developing and sharing more on the topic. HEADING HOME. Starting Jun 15th I will be heading home for 6 weeks. It will be the longest I have been home since my DTS in 2003 so I am really looking forward to reconnecting with family, friends and church. I will also be working with Dad on our farm getting a couple of sections ready for 2 relocatable houses. Part of the focus for being home will be working and fundraising to help pay off money that I owe from last year and to build towards my budget for the next couple years. So pray that the right doors will open to enable me to head back to Townsville really ready to be involved to the fullest that God has called me in the coming year. 2 PROJECTS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. 1) 24 Aug - 11 Sept, Leading the last 2 weeks of the YWAM medical ship outreach in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea: Will cost between $500 - $900AU depending on flights and if I get to sail back with the ship from PNG. 2) October DTS 2011 Outreaches. Although locations are not set yet my last 8 years of going on outreaches have costed between $2,000 to $3,000 for the 8 weeks including flights etc.
