Food Allergy in Dogs - Reasons and Symptoms Allergies can be deceptive and annoying. More so if the reason behind the allergy is unknown. Just like humans, dogs too have to deal with allergies and the most common ones are food allergies. They occur as an immune response of the body towards certain elements that are not recognized by the body and treated as foreign particles, hence, the inflammation and itching. If the diet isn’t changed, no matter what you do, your dog won’t be relieved of these troubles. Therefore, it is important for a pet owner to know the most common signs that tell the pet is suffering from food allergy and require a diet change.

Excessive Itching Although itching can be confused with most other symptoms of diseases, it can also be one of the signals that your dog’s body is reacting to some food you gave him last night. If the itching continues over a week, with no other prominent signs of fleas or ticks or other diseases, the reaction may be associated with an allergen in the diet.
