Unveiling Kyōyū: the New Seasonal Restaurant on Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & Spa’s Sky Terrace

Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & Spa is pleased to announce the launch of its new pop-up restaurant concept, Kyōyū. The name, meaning “sharing” in Japanese symbolises an innovative concept that unites Japanese cuisine with Latin American influences. Situated on the expansive Sky Terrace offering panoramic views of historic Bern, Kyōyū provides the perfect setting to unwind and enjoy sunny days in a relaxed atmosphere.

A Circle Closes: Yamato and Kyōyū at Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & Spa

Kyōyū makes its debut over three and a half decades after the opening of Restaurant Yamato, Switzerland's first Japanese hotel restaurant, which first welcomed guests at Schweizerhof in 1987. Founded by owner

Jean-Jacques Gauer upon his return from a trip and established with the assistance of then-hotel manager Benjamin Güller, Yamato introduced the flavours of Japanese cuisine to the capital city.

On the Food and Drink Menu

In tune with the warmer temperatures, Kyōyū offers a summer-inspired menu featuring light dishes such as sea bass ceviche, assorted tacos, daily special rolls, and tiradito with seared salmon. Dessert options also extend to include treats such as mochis and tres leches in an assortment of flavours. The decor, with its pastel hues and minimalist design, creates a serene atmosphere ideal for gatherings with family, friends, and loved ones.

Beyond its culinary offerings, Kyōyū features an array of signature cocktails, complemented by a curated selection of sake, Japanese beer, and wine. Noteworthy among these is the "Tea Ceremony," combining yuzu vermouth, lemon, jasmine, and green tea for a refreshing and memorable flavour profile.

The Team Behind Kyōyū

Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & Spa proudly presents a new culinary venture in Bern, led by Executive Chef Andreas Haseloh, who joined the team on September 18, 2023. Bringing extensive culinary experience from kitchens across Switzerland, together with Timo Horber, the Food & Beverage Manager, they have developed the Kyōyū restaurant concept, promising an exceptional fusion of Japanese-Latin American cuisine.

Opening Hours

Kyōyū invites guests daily, opening from 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM in fair weather, and extended hours until 11:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.

All diners are invited to discover this new culinary jewel in Bern on the roof terrace of Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & Spa.

Whether you're seeking a leisurely lunch, a casual dinner, or planning a memorable celebration, Kyōyū guarantees an exceptional experience.
