Will Co. Deputy Chief to head crime task force Will County Deputy Chief Dan Jungles has been tabbed to replace Romeoville Police Chief Ken Kroll as the new chairman of the Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force. The task force began in 2009 and at the time of inception consisted of nearly 40 law enforcement agencies from throughout Will and Grundy counties as well as the FBI and the Illinois State Police. According to a 2009 release from the State’s Attorney’s office, the task force was designed to “direct critical police resources toward the investigation of a major crime, such as a mass shooting or a complex murder investigation, immediately after one occurs.”
“It is an honor being elected by my peers, to the position of Chairman of the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force,” Jungles said. “I am the third person from the Will County Sheriff’s Office to be elected Chairman of the Task Force. The task force is comprised of many law enforcement professionals from municipalities throughout Will County, Grundy County and the State Police. The task force has the very best detectives, crime scene technician, and supervisors that these departments have to offer.” Jungles has served in investigations the majority of his career. “Fourteen out of the last 16 years of my 21-year career has
been dedicated to conducting criminal investigations throughout Will County,” he said. “Being elected to the Chairman’s position comes full circle for me. When the task force first started out in 2009, I was selected as a detective with the task force, and conducted offender interviews in the very first task force activation. I look forward to new challenges that this appointment brings.”

Will County Clerk increases Election Judge pay Will County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry is pleased to announce she will increase the pay for Election Judges who serve in a Polling Place during the Nov. 3 Presidential Election by $100, bringing their total pay to $250 from $150. In addition, the County Clerk will
raise the hourly pay for Early Voting election workers hired through her office to $20 from $13. These will be one-time pay increases for the November Election covered through CARES Act funding. “The pay increases show our deep appreciation for the valuable service
our Election Judges and Early Voting workers provide to voters during what is certain to be an unprecedented Presidential Election,” Clerk Staley Ferry said. “We understand that assisting the public during a pandemic creates significant health safety concerns. In addition to providing extra compensation, we want them to know we’re doing everything we can to keep them safe when they are assisting voters.” The Will County Clerk’s Office has drafted detailed health safety protocols for Election Day and Early Voting to minimize exposure to COVID-19. The office is providing health safety supplies for judges and election workers that include protective masks, face shields, gloves, disinfectant wipes, individual hand sanitizers, and a large hand sanitizing station for each Polling Place and Early
Voting location. The pay increase also acknowledges the additional health safety
work they will be asked to perform by wiping down pens, voting booths, and other commonly used surfaces with disinfectant cloths throughout the day. They also will be asked to encourage voters to wear protective masks and maintain proper social distancing. “We all have had extensive personal experience protecting ourselves in public places during the pandemic,” the County Clerk said. “We go into this election with a better understanding of how to keep ourselves safe and with all the supplies and equipment needed to minimize risk.” Clerk Staley Ferry added: “We had so many Election Judges from both political parties who stood with us during the Primary and who remain steadfast for November. The service they provide is the foundation for a free and fair election.”

Girl Scouts donate Little Free Library Girl Scout Junior Troop 70047 built and donated a Little Free Library to its home school, Lincoln Elementary, to complete its Bronze Award project. Troops earn the Bronze Award by completing a project that gives back to the community in a small way. The junior troop, comprising 201920 school year 5th graders, worked to build a Little Free Library to promote literacy for their Bronze Award project, said Troop Leader Arlene Morris, who also teaches math at Plainfield High School – Central Campus. “As we were brainstorming projects for the school, we knew Lincoln already has LincolnGrows, which is an outdoor classroom and sustainable garden,” Morris said. “So, the troop thought a Little Free Library was a nice addition to go with the outdoor classroom theme at Lincoln.” A Little Free Library is typically placed in a public area where community members can take books for free and donate books, Morris said.
Junior troop members Emily Yuskus, Madelyn Hansen, Megan Morris, Violet Strain, Holly Morris, and Sarah White had to complete 30 hours of work toward the project, Morris said. The troop members volunteered last school year at Lincoln’s Family Reading Night to promote literacy at the free book table. The remaining hours for the project were dedicated to painting and building the Free Little Library. The Little Free Library is made with recycled products and will require low maintenance, Morris said. The Library was supposed to be installed in March, but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Morris said. The Little Free Library was installed in July 2020 outside the main entrance at Lincoln Elementary School and is filled with children’s and adult books for the community.
