Plainfield will likely build an 18th elementary school in the next few years. The extra space would allow District 202 to implement a full-day kindergarten. The Board of Education met April 3 to discuss adding the proposal to the April 15 agenda. According to the district, board members Heather Drake, Michael Robey and Bob Smith had some reservations about the cost and space needs, but the entire board generally supports the idea. The district has always offered halfday kindergarten, but has only offered one full-day kindergarten class at each school for the last three years because of space constraints. 408 students are now enrolled in full-day kindergarten in the district. District officials estimate that about 1,500 children are eligible this year for kindergarten. If approved, the $25 million building would be constructed in the next SEE SCHOOL PAGE 12
