D.202 approves full-day kindergarten with new building All members agree there is a need, two still vote against BY BRIAN STANLEY Bugle Staff @BugleNewspapers bstanley@buglenewspapers.com

Plainfield District 202 has approved construction of an 18th elementary school. The additional building will provide enough space for full-day kindergarten programs throughout the district. The Board of Education approved the proposal at the April 15 meeting by a vote of 5-2. Heather Drake and Michael Robey voted against it. District spokesman Tom Hernandez said everyone on the board agreed there is a need for full-day kindergarten, but Drake and Robey questioned the cost and wanted to seek other options. The $25 million building will be constructed in the next two or three years on land already owned by the district, but the exact location has not been selected. The building will appear similar to the most recent elementary schools built here and house 800 K-5 students. SEE FULL DAY PAGE 4
