Opening Chicago Street City discusses plans to reopen Chicago Street with transportation center construction
By Jonathan Samples Staff Reporter
A
revision of construction plans for the new Joliet transit center may include the reopening of Chicago Street, and some local business owners are welcoming the proposal. Ray Wesley is the owner of The Red Goose Bakery & Cafe,
which is located on the corner of Chicago and Jefferson streets. The proposed reopening would connect Chicago Street between Washington and Jefferson streets, making businesses like Wesley’s the main beneficiaries. “I actually thought it was approved already,” Wesley said. “I was looking forward to it. I think it will open up traffic from that side of Chicago [Street] and of course increase our sales.”
The Red Goose opened in February, and Wesley also thinks the move could increase her companies sales from deliveries. Mike Trizna, owner of Chicago Street Bar and Grill, 75 N. Chicago St., is also looking forward to a potential reopening of Chicago Street. Trizna, who has owned his bar for 7 years, said he has been trying to get the street re-opened See CHICAGO, page 2
