Joliet Central Culinary Arts places 2nd at ‘Men Who Cook’

On Saturday, October 19, the Joliet Central Culinary Arts program showcased its culinary talents at the annual Men Who Cook event held at the JJC Weitendorf Center in Joliet. Instructors Tom Langley and Amanda Ashmus joined senior students Diego Zamundio-Hernandez and Daniel Garcia to compete in this prestigious fundraising event.

Men Who Cook raises vital funds for the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center, dedicating 100% of its proceeds to support children who have experienced severe physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, neglect, and exposure to violence. This year’s event brought together a passionate community committed to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

The Joliet Central team impressed judges and attendees alike, securing second place in the professional category with Chef Langley’s exquisite recipe for Cinnamon Sugar Soft Pretzel Bites served with Salted Caramel Sauce. Their delicious dish not only highlighted the students’ culinary skills but also showcased the program’s commitment to excellence in culinary education.

Will County waives dog adoption fees during ‘Barktober’

Will County Animal Protection Services (WCAPS) is waiving all adoption fees for dogs in the month of October as part of their “Barktober” promotion event, in recognition of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.

“We’re proud to celebrate ‘Barktober’ with this promotion, helping the dogs in our care find their next forever home,” said WCAPS Administrator Anna Payton. “With historically high rates of dogs in the shelter system throughout the country, this is an excellent time to meet your newest family member.”

During the promotion, all available dogs can be adopted without adoption fees. Adoption fees for all dogs under 50 pounds are being covered by a generous donation from Will County State’s Attorney James W. Glasgow.

“The Animal Protection Services team is constantly finding ways to make the adoption process easier for residents,” said Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant. “I appreciate all that they do for animals in their care and thank State’s Attorney Glasgow for supporting this effort.”

Dogs available for adoption can be viewed on IL1035.petfinder.com. Appointments can be scheduled to visit available pets by calling 815-462-5633 or emailing adopt@willcountyillinois. com. Adoption hours are from noon p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the WCAPS office located at 22452 Cherry Hill Rd. in Joliet.
