hay Boyle has spent his entire educational life in Catholic schools and beginning in July, he will have the opportunity to lead young men through their own Catholic school life. That is after Boyle was approved in January by the Board of Directors of Notre Dame College Prep as the school’s next president. “There may not be another person on the planet that has been through more Catholic education than me,” Boyle said. “From kindergarten through eighth grade I went to Our Lady of Victory in Chicago, then four years at Weber High School and four years at the University of Notre Dame, then I coached part time at Notre Dame High School while I was a computer consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers downtown for three years. Then I went to Lewis University for two years to get my Masters and then I worked at Loyola University for four years as a D-I assistant (basketball coach), then I was head basketball coach at Gordon Tech for four years and then eight years at Notre Dame. “Since I have been eight years old, I have been in a Catholic school. I have a pretty good flavor of all the orders of the Catholic church.”

respond to the 2020 census

Boyle has served as Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Enrollment of Notre Dame College Prep since 2014 after beginning his ND career as the Director of Enrollment in 2012. He has served on the Notre Dame College Prep Administrative Leadership Team and been involved in many enrollment, fundraising, and student activities at the school during his eight years. The appointment came after a thorough and comprehensive search process conducted by a sub-committee of the Board of Directors chaired by Board Chair Kevin Burke. “Mr. Boyle is exactly the right person to lead Notre Dame College Prep into this exciting next chapter,” Burke said in a release. “His strong vision, leadership skills, and extensive knowledge of the enrollment and education landscape will allow him to propel the school forward in limitless ways beginning day one.” Boyle will take over from Ralph J. Elwart who has served as the school’s president since August 2014 and has confidence in Boyle as a successor. “I have the utmost confidence in Mr. Boyle’s appointment,” Elwart, whose tenure as president will end June 30, said in a release. “Shay has the professional experience and dedication necessary to lead Notre Dame College Prep to the next level of excellence in the values-based education of

Residents will receive an invitation in the mail with instructions on how to take the Census online at that time. You will receive reminders over the following weeks. If you do not respond online, you will receive a paper Census questionnaire in the mail, then an inperson Census-taker. The Census is important. Please respond, and support your community. When I worked at Pricewaterhouse, it was a great company, but there was something always calling me back to education and coaching and working with kids.” Families continuing to return to Notre Dame as teachers, coaches or sons of graduates returning to the school is the way Boyle said the school

water meter replacement program

The Village of Niles has started a Meter Replacement Program throughout the Village. The Village has signed a contract with (PMI) Professional Meter, Inc. The meter replacement program is mandatory for the selected residents. Meters will be installed systematically throughout the Village, and when PMI is approaching a neighborhood, residents in the area will be sent a series of postcards requesting them to schedule an appointment. Residents are asked to be responsive and schedule an appointment once this notification is received. It is important that residents respond in a timely manner. As

will thrive. “The lifeline of our school is the alumni and we need them to send their kids back. We have kids coming to Notre Dame every morning from over 50 different cities and that is incredible the reach we have and that is because the alums love their high school and still want to support it and want their kids to be part of it. Parents always say that you just feel it the first time you walk in and that is something we will never lose as long as I am here. “It is a challenging landscape with Catholic schools and enrollment, but we have been lucky to have grown our enrollment to be the biggest all boys high school in the state.” While Boyle will begin his new posi-

of 1-31-2020, approximately 32 percent of selected residents have scheduled or completed their installation. Residents will be expected to have an adult over the age of 18 years old home at the time of appointment, which should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. On the date of the water meter change out, the resident should take precautions and look for the logo on the installer’s uniform and vehicle and make sure the installer’s ID is visible before allowing the installer to enter the home. If you are unsure about any suspicious activity, please do not hesitate to contact the Police Department at (847)-588-6500. tion over the summer, there will be a part of him that he will retire in March. Boyle has been a basketball coach at the high school and college level for many years, however, with the demands of the new job, he will hang up his whistle at the end of this season. “Having the coaching outlet, I was able to get the pulse of the guys and I am not sitting in an office all day. I want to be out there talking to the kids. I think everyone is excited to see that the school promoted from within with someone who has worked toward the goal. I think the teachers and faculty are excited as well. It takes the scariness out of the idea of bringing someone in that doesn’t know the school as well,” he said. “I am sure I will find my way to the gym when I need to get my fix to watch them practice and help in any way I can, but my players know I will be there to support them in any way I can.” Currently, the Dons are the No. 1 ranked team in the state of Illinois in Class 3A by the Associated Press and Boyle is hoping to go out on top with a state championship. However, no matter how this season finishes, he knows he will have many successes to enjoy for the years to come. “We have to be excited for our successes and we celebrate all our victories here at Notre Dame, academically, with our clubs, our music, theater – there are so many things. It is a full time job because we have full time success,” he said. “I love to tell the Notre Dame story and it is a great story to be told.”

Tighten up spending to pay off debt you guys need to get on a written, detailed plan, and start hitting your goals dear dave, I’m beginning to think we got in over our heads with our house. My wife and I make about $125,000 a year com-

bined, but we’ve never been able to put anything aside for an emergency fund. Our mortgage payment is 35 percent of our take home pay each month. We have two young children, so we eat out a lot, but we have no debt other than our house. Do you think we should refinance our home?

Jeff

dear Jeff, You two are making good money, and you’re debt-free except for your home. You can’t tighten up your budget enough to save up an emergency fund? Stay out of restaurants, dude! There’s no law stating you have to eat out a lot just because there are kids in the house. I mean, you’ve got no

emergency fund. That’s a pretty basic thing. You guys need to get on a written, detailed plan, and start hitting your goals. I’m talking about a strict, monthly budget. Now, I’ll admit your mortgage payment isn’t exactly what I would’ve signed you up for. Your house payments, or rent, should be no more than 25 percent of your monthly take home pay. But your house payment isn’t what’s holding you two back. What’s holding you two back is the fact that you haven’t been willing to tighten

up the finances in other areas of your life to offset biting off more than you could chew in terms of a home. No, I wouldn’t refinance. You’re fairly close where the mortgage payments are concerned, so I think you can make it through this by looking at ways to increase your income and selling stuff you don’t need to build an emergency fund. You two have been smarter than some, but you’re really going to have to buckle down and rearrange your priorities to make this happen!

notre dame defeats maine south in a battle of area teams in front of near-capacity crowd in park ridge by drake skleba For the bugle

@BugleNewspapers sweditor@buglenewspapers.com Before an almost capacitycrowd at Maine South High School in Park Ridge on Tuesday, the Associated Press’ Illinois Class 3A No.1ranked Notre Dame took on the young and talented Maine South. The top-ranked Dons hopped on their bus for the short bus ride to Maine South and ran into a buzz saw from the host Hawks. Fired up by their huge, raucous student section, the young Hawks led 13-12 after one quarter and would only trail 28-24 at the half. Notre Dame, behind senior Jimmy Murphy and juniors Troy D’ Amico (15 points, eight rebounds, four blocks), Anthony Sayles (17 points, three rebounds, three blocks, three steals) and Louis Lesmond (19 points, six rebounds, three blocks) ran away from the Hawks in the second half and win going away 72-50. Having turned the ball over just four times in the first half against the vaunted Notre Dame defense, the young Hawks turned the ball over three times in the first two minutes of the third quarter. Led by Murphy, the Dons went on an 8-0 run and opened up a 3624 lead. Murphy (10 points, three rebounds, four assists, two steals) drew a five-second count, forced another turnover, grabbed a huge offensive rebound and convert three of four free throws in the 8-0 run.

“We had a rough first half,” Murphy said. “We had to come out and stop their back doors that they scored on in the first half. At the start of the second half, we really came after them on defense and went on the big run.” Sayles and D’ Amico each scored eight points in the third quarter and the Dons would lead 51-35 after three quarters. “Maine South’s match-up zone really gave us problems in the first half,” Sayles said. “We figured it out in the second half and rolled to this big win. “Jimmy Murphy is the glue to our team. Everyone says that I am our point-guard, they are all wrong. Jimmy is our point-guard. He is so good at running our offense. By being as good as he is, it allows me to freelance and play on every part of the floor.” “We started a little slow and Maine South really came after us in the first half,” D’Amico said. “We were not surprised by that. We have a great rivalry every year with them. We really got after them in the first few minutes of the second half. Jimmy really got us going with his defense and we took off from there. It’s awesome to have Jimmy leading us. “We just ran our basic offense in the second half and we have so much trust in each other, that we just all get on a roll.” Upstaged by the senior Murphy at the start of the third quarter,

There will be no school on Monday, March 9. Since School District 64 has not had any school closings due to inclement weather before February 1, it will implement the March Records Planning Day. Staff will work, but students will not attend school. Classes will resume on Tuesday, March 10.

6-foot-five junior Marko Anderson just missed a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds. Repeatedly, Anderson challenged the Dons’ stars, would have his shot blocked and grab the rebound and go attack them again. Casey Clark and Nik Zelenovic each had 11 points to lead the Hawks, while Sean Gallery chipped in with seven points. Notre Dame senior,Jason Bergstrom scored six points and hauled down three rebounds, while junior Jake DeFranza buried a long-range three point bomb off the bench for ND. “We worked all week against Maine South’s match-up zone,” Notre Dame coach Kevin Clancy said. “We came out in the first

half very timid against it. Jimmy Murphy is the heart and soul of this team. He took over the game in the first three minutes of the third quarter, which ignited the big 8-0 run. I believe tonight was the greatest all-around game for Jimmy in his two years at ND.” “I am so proud of the way we played tonight,” Maine South coach Tony Lavorato said. “What a first half for us and we missed three free throws in the last seconds or we would have been even closer. The first three minutes of the second half, as championship teams do, Notre Dame hit us with that big run and yet we still were in the game after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, their superior athletes took over.”

We followed our game-plan to perfection after a slow start in the first half,” Lesmond said. “We defended well tonight, we rebounded and ran our offense well after figuring out Maine South’s defense in the second half.” For the up-start Hawks (14-11),
