Huskies Return To Post-Season Bloomsburg has earned its first trip to the post-season since reaching the PSAC Tournament in 2011. In their last trip to the PSAC Tournament in 2011, the Huskies defeated Slippery Rock in the opening round, 11-6, with hits from current Huskies Brad Smith and Aaron Russell while starter Kyle Hunter went four innings, striking out two. After a 7-5 loss to IUP, Bloomsburg stayed alive with a 5-3 win over Shippensburg with an RBI hit from Russell and 4.1 innings of scoreless relief from Eric Geedey. A 6-4 loss to IUP ended the Huskies run in the semifinals. Season For The Record Books The Huskies have enjoyed one of the strongest seasons in school history this spring, setting a BU record for PSAC victories while posting one of the top overall win totals in program history. Bloomsburg completed the regular season with a 20-8 record within the PSAC East, breaking a school record for conference wins which had stood since the 1997 team won 16 PSAC contests. The Huskies enter the PSAC Tournament with 28 wins overall, the third-most in program history. Eastern Success The Huskies remained atop the PSAC East standings throughout the spring thanks to strong play against conference foes. Bloomsburg did not lose a divisional series all season, recording series victories over Lock Haven (3-1), West Chester (3-1), Kutztown (4-0), Shippensburg (3-1) and Mansfield (3-1) while splitting with Millersville (2-2) and East Stroudsburg (2-2).
The Lineup Here is a capsule on each of the Huskies everyday starters: Eric Frain ● Jr. ● 3B 46 G, .370/.424/.410, 0 HR, 21 RBI Batted in the leadoff spot in all 46 games this year and has 14 stolen bases. Nick Mazza ● Sr. ● RF 46 G, .310/.379/.355, 0 HR, 19 RBI Started all 46 games in right field, posting seven doubles and nine stolen bases. Damin Muth ● Fr. ● C/DH 43 G, .394/.500/.520, 2 HR, 29 RBI Hit over .400 for the majority of his freshman season and has been at his best in clutch situations, batting .510 with runners in scoring position. Brian Almand ● So. ● INF 45 G, .291/.392/.373, 2 HR, 21 RBI Played primarily at second base after starting the season at short. Almand was the 2013 PSAC East Freshman of the Year. Joey Casselberry ● So. ● 1B 46 G, .275/.368/.356, 1 HR, 27 RBI Played all 46 games at first base and has made only one error in 90 games there as a Husky. Batted .345 with 22 RBI as a freshman in 2013. Brady West ● Fr. ● LF 43 G, .308/.372/.346, 0 HR, 14 RBI Has surged over the past two weeks, batting .471 since April 16 to lead the Huskies over that span. Also adds 13 stolen bases. Brad Smith ● Sr. ● CF 44 G, .326/.374/.400, 0 HR, 23 RBI Played in 176 games for the Huskies compiling a career batting average well over .300 and a career fielding percentage of over 97 percent.
