QUICK SIX

-Saturday’s game will determine the PSAC East champion and Eastern Division representative in next weekend’s PSAC Championship Game. -Franklyn Quiteh needs one touchdown to break a tie with BU alum Jamar Brittingham for the most total TDs in PSAC history, entering Saturday with 85. -Quiteh also needs three rushing TDs to surpass Brittingham’s PSAC record of 83 and also enters Saturday just four points off Brittingham’s PSAC points record of 516. -Quiteh is 70 rushing yards away from becoming the third player in Division II history to reach 7,000 career rushing yards (Danny Woodhead, Xavier Omon). -With 177 career PATs made, Danny Fisher is two off the PSAC record of 179 set by Alex Walsh of West Chester between 2005-08. -Bloomsburg has not lost back-to-back games in two years (vs. LIU Post, at Kutztown 10/2911/5/2011).

TODAY’S MATCHUP

The winner of Saturday’s game will win the PSAC East and earn hosting duties of next Saturday’s conference title matchup. Slippery Rock controls its own destiny to be the representative from the West, needing a victory at winless Seton Hill to capture a berth in the PSAC Championship Game. Saturday’s game features two of the top offenses in the PSAC – West Chester ranks second in the league in points per game at 41.7 while the Huskies are close behind in third at 40.3. The Rams and Huskies are similar in the way both find success on the ground – Bloomsburg leads the PSAC at 313.8 yards per game rushing while WCU is third at 233.9 – as well as how both squads are strong in stopping the run: Bloomsburg leads the conference in rushing defense at 81.2 yards per game allowed, just ahead of WCU’s 94.2.

THE HEAD COACHES

Paul Darragh takes over the role of interim head coach this season after serving 16 years on the Bloomsburg coaching staff as defensive coordinator. Under Darragh’s leadership, the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top half of the PSAC in total defense in seven of the past 11 seasons. Bill Zwaan is in his 11th season at the helm of the

Under Zwaan, the Rams have won three PSAC Eastern Division titles (2004, 2007, 2008) while winning conference Coach of the Year honors each time with his spread Wing-T offensive scheme. He has also led WCU to the NCAA Playoffs a school-record five times including a national semifinal appearance in 2004. Zwan has 16 years of head coaching experience, with Saturday being his 198th game on the sidelines. He started his run at Division III Widener, posting a 54-14 record while there, setting a school record for winning percentage at .794 before moving to West Chester.

LAST YEAR’S MEETING

Bloomsburg started fast and was able to hold off West Chester on Nov. 3, 2012 at Redman Stadium, 24-23. The game stats reflected the close nature of the final score – Bloomsburg held a narrow edge in rushing yards, 256-225, while WCU led in total yards, 422-340. The Huskies were +2 in turnovers, however, as the Golden Rams lost two fumbles. Bloomsburg led 14-3 after a quarter thanks to rushing touchdowns from Franklyn Quiteh and Dai’Shon Munger and never trailed, despite a rally attempt from WCU. Quiteh had 121 yards rushing while Rondell White finished with 305 all-purpose yards and two scores for the Golden Rams.

SERIES HISTORY

The Huskies have won three straight games over rival West Chester, but are seeking back-to-back wins at WCU for only the second time ever. The first was in 1994 and 1996. Saturday’s game marks the 71st meeting between schools dating back to 1925. West Chester leads the all-time series, 46-24 and is 28-6 vs. Bloomsburg at home.
