QUICK SIX
- The Huskies have allowed just one sack this season totaling five yards. Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) is the only team in the nation not to allow a sack while four other teams have allowed one (Indianapolis, Wayne State (NE), Harding, Angelo State). - Bloomsburg has recovered 10 fumbles this year, tied most in the country with Morehouse. Only one team across all divisions – Florida International of Division I – has recovered more fumbles this season (13). - Justin Shirk ranks tied second in the nation in tackles for loss per game (2.5) with only Devin Benton of Southwest Oklahoma averaging more (2.8/game). - A win on Saturday would give the Huskies six victories on the year and secure a winning season. Bloomsburg has had a winning record every year since 1999. - The Huskies have not lost to Millersville since 1999 (31-21 at home), winning 14 straight games over the Marauders. - Eddie Mateo leads the PSAC with 11 rushing touchdowns and has scored at least one touchdown in every game this year.
THE GAME
The Huskies welcome PSAC East rival Millersville to Danny Hale Field at Robert B. Redman Stadium this Saturday as part of Homecoming Weekend, the second year in a row Bloomsburg has faced Millersville on Homecoming. The Marauders have struggled this season, being outscored 263-91 including 217-47 since squandering a 30-13 third quarter lead in a season-opening 46-44 loss at home to Livingstone on Sept. 4. In particular, Millersville has had trouble stopping the run – opponents are averaging 288.4 yards per game on the ground and have totaled 20 rushing touchdowns on the year against the Marauders defense. Bloomsburg, meanwhile, has scored 16 of its 17 offensive touchdowns on the ground and averages 180.2 yards rushing.
SERIES HISTORY
The upcoming game with Millersville is the 77th in the series between the two schools, dating back to the first meeting in 1916. Bloomsburg’s record in the previous 76 games is 41-30-5, with a mark of 24-11-4 at home and 17-19-1 on the road. The Huskies have beaten the Marauders 14 consecutive times since the last loss in 1999, a 31-21 defeat at Redman Stadium. Fullback Brody Myers was one of four Huskies to rush for touchdowns last week at Cheyney.

HUSKIES TAKE PSAC EAST DEFENSIVE HONORS
} The Bloomsburg defense has
been stellar through the start of the season with the Huskies earning PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honors four straight weeks to begin the season. Justin Shirk won the honor for the second time this year following Week 4 with 15 tackles and two sacks vs. Shippensburg. Last week, senior cornerback DJ Robinson earns the honor after his interception return for a touchdown gave the Huskies a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Senior defensive tackle Shawn Mitchell earned the accolades this week after playing a key role in two crucial turnovers forced by the Huskies defense. Mitchell picked up an interception on the first play of overtime which set up BU for the game-winning field goal. He also recorded a fumble recovery which set up a Huskies third quarter scoring drive. In Week 1, senior linebacker Justin Shirk finished with nine tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a sack. Five of his tackles were solo stops. He had a hand in two crucial turnovers as the Huskies were able to rally in the second half and pull away for a 24-7 non-conference victory. PRESEASON RANKINGS The Huskies were nationally-ranked in a number of preseason polls. Bloomsburg ranks No. 24 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Top 25 and No. 25 in the D2Football.com poll. The Huskies also stood No. 17 in The Sporting News preseason Top 25 and were slotted No. 23 by Lindy’s Sports. RANKED AGAIN National recognition among the Division II pollsters is nothing new for the Huskies. With their Top 25 rankings this season, Bloomsburg has now been ranked in at least one national Top 25 poll since the 2000 season. The Huskies have been ranked in every AFCA Top 25 since October 11, 2010 – a span of 50 consecutive polls. GREAT EIGHT Week 5’s win at Cheyney marked the eighth time in head coach Paul Darragh’s head coaching tenure that the Huskies have allowed 14 points or less. IN THE POLLS Bloomsburg held steady in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 this week at No. 12 and also remained unchanged in the D2Football.com poll, staying at No. 13.
#UNLEASHED
BLOOMSBURG FOOTBALL GAME NOTES WINNING PERCENTAGE RISING With Bloomsburg’s 41-7 win over Cheyney in Week 5, the Huskies reached a milestone for accomplishment over the past 15 seasons. The victory gives Bloomsburg a .800 winning percentage since the start of the 2000 season with a 136-34 record. Only Division II three teams Northwest Missouri State, Grand Valley State and Tuskegee have higher winning percentages over that time span.
Starting Experience
PASSING ATTACK COMES ALIVE The Huskies are finally finding some rhythm in the passing game after struggling mightily the first three weeks of the year. With only one receiver, Connor Gades, having starting experience entering the year, it has been a process of quarterback Tim Kelly and his new receivers finding a comfort level. Bloomsburg averaged just 57.3 yards per game through the air after three weeks, but has registered 239.5 yards per game passing the past two weeks with 252 yards against Shippensburg in Week 4 and 227 yards last week at Cheyney.

A big reason for the increase has been the emergence of transfer D.J. McFadden who has totaled 196 yards receiving this year, but 176 of those yards came in Weeks 4-5 with seven grabs the past two weeks. HUSKIES QUARTET FINDS END ZONE Four Huskies rushed for touchdowns in the Week 5 41-7 win at Cheyney – Eddie Mateo and Dai’Shon Munger each found the end zone twice while Brody Myers and Altarique Mosley-Dew also had rushing scores. It marked the first time that at least four different Huskies had rushing touchdowns in the same game since the 2007 game at Cheyney when five players - Jamar Brittingham (three), Josh Heck (two) as well as Stefan Adams (one), James Sweeting III (one) and Alex Landis (one) all ran for scores in a 55-6 win on Nov. 3, 2007 at Redman Stadium. RUN AMD Redshirt freshman Altarique Mosley-Dew saw his first official game touches in Week 4 at Cheyney, carrying eight times for 43 yards. Included in that total was a 13-yard sprint for his first career touchdown during the fourth quarter. TWICE IS NICE Fullback Brody Myers did not find the end zone during his entire high school career, nor in his first three seasons as a Husky. He’s changed that this season, first rushing for a five-yard score in Week 1 at Stonehill then adding a touchdown run more befitting a tailback when he broke off a 17-yard score at Cheyney in Week 5. The Huskies have matched their touchdown total of 2013 out of the fullback spot as Matt Wenrich rushed for two scores a year ago.

TAKEAWAY STREAK ENDS The Huskies defense did not have a single takeaway in the 41-7 win Week 5 at Cheyney. That marked a first not only this season, but under the leadership of Paul Darragh. Bloomsburg had at least one takeaway in Darragh’s first 16 games as head coach. The last time the Huskies did not have at least one takeaway was in the 2012 NCAA Playoffs at Shippensburg.

OFFENSE SHINES The Huskies set several season highs in the 41-7 win at Cheyney in Week 5. Bloomsburg posted a season-best 465 yards of total offense, the first game of over 400 yards of offense this year. It marked the ninth time the Huskies have gone over 400 yards of offense under head coach Paul Darragh. MITCHELL PACES THE NATION Senior defensive tackle Shawn Mitchell has recovered three fumbles through the first five weeks of the season. Mitchell is one of seven players in the nation to recover three fumbles - no player has recovered more. QUINN HITS CAREER HIGHS Tight end Shane Quinn totaled new career highs in receiving Week 5 at Cheyney, making three catches for 41 yards – both career bests for the redshirt junior. ELLIOTT ELECTRIC ON RETURNS Sophomore return man Lawrence Elliott Jr. has continued to shine this season after taking second team All-PSAC East honors last year as a true freshman. Elliott amassed 97 all-purpose yards in Week 2 vs. Cal and posted 147 Week 3 at Mercyhurst including a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown, the second of his career. His first punt return for a touchdown came at home vs. Millersville on Oct. 12, 2013 (73 yards). His 18.4 yards per punt return this season ranks sixth in the nation and first in the PSAC. Next highest in the PSAC is Drew Scales of Slippery Rock (11.4). SHIRK STILL IMPRESSIVE IN RETURN Senior tri-captain Justin Shirk was forced to sit out the Week 3 game at Mercyhurst because of a “targeting” helmet-to-helmet penalty levied late in the Week 2 game vs. Cal. He returned in Week 4 vs. Shippensburg and immediately made his presence felt, forcing a first quarter fumble that would result in a touchdown for the Huskies defense. He finished with 15 tackles and four for loss with his 15 stops being one off a career high of 16 set last year at West Chester. He was honored as PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week for his efforts.

OPPONENT BUTTERFINGERS Bloomsburg has done an excellent job of forcing fumbles this season as opponents have committed 13 fumbles, losing 10 thus far. THE TREND CONTINUES The Huskies have scored 14 or more points in 53 straight games, a school record. The previous high was 33 straight from 1994-97.

Jahri Evans (‘06) continues to be a stalwart at right tackle for the New Orleans Saints, again serving as a starter in front of quarterback Drew Brees. Evans, a fourth round pick of the Saints in 2006, is a fivetime Pro Bowl selection and considered one of the NFL’s best at his position. In 2011 he was named as one of the 100 Greatest Players in the NFL and won a Super Bowl ring with the Saints in 2009.
RECORD-SETTING 2013 The 2013 season was one for the record books in terms of offense for the Huskies. Bloomsburg finished the year with the most points scored in school history (474) and the most-ever yards of total offense (5,895). The Huskies also compiled 11 30-point games and recorded 500 or more yards of total offense eight times in 2013, both school records. The Huskies also ran for 350+ yards in a game six times last year, breaking the old record of four set in 2004. BUCKING THE TREND While much of football has shifted to a pass-happy offensive attack, the Huskies are finding more success than ever with their tried and true rushing game. Bloomsburg has posted the top two rushing seasons in PSAC history back-to-back – 2012 (3,789 yards) and 2013 (3,762 yards). Bloomsburg averaged 313.5 yards per game on the ground last fall.
Defensive end Larry Webster became the second-highest NFL Draft pick in school history this past May when he was selected in the fourth round (136th overall) by the Detroit Lions. He had 13.5 sacks in 2012 and 12.5 in 2013 for the Huskies. Webster made the Lions’ 53-man roster and was active for the first time in Week 3 but did not play. Matt Feiler, who like Webster was an AllAmerican for the Huskies in 2013, was signed as a free agent following the draft by the Houston Texans. Feiler, an offensive tackle, is currently a member of the Texans’ practice squad.
WEEK 6 • VS MILLERSVILLE
BLOOMSBURG FOOTBALL GAME NOTES MCFADDEN ARRIVES D. J. McFadden arrived on the scene in a big way Week 4 vs. Shippensburg, finishing with four catches for 127 yards including two big plays which directly led to Huskies touchdowns, highlighted by a 49-yard catch. McFadden now leads Bloomsburg in receiving yards with 147 on the year. He transferred to Bloomsburg from Orange Coast College prior to this season, after leading OCC with 36 catches for 774 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 21.5 yards per catch in 2013. The 6’4’’ McFadden had been looked at by Bloomsburg coaches originally out of Abington High School – but as a basketball player after he averaged 21.3 points, 10 rebounds and six assists per game on the hardwood as a high school player before opting to play football in college. HUSKIES RUN TOTALS SLIP VS SHIP The Huskies finished with 123 yards of total rushing vs. Shippensburg in Week 4, a mark which was the lowest since last year’s game vs. the Raiders when Bloomsburg totaled 106 yards. Bloomsburg did continue its streak of games with at least 100 yards rushing as a team to 36 straight games. The last time BU did not reach 100 yards rushing was on Sept. 15, 2011 at IUP (76 yards). Also vs. Shippensburg in Week 4, the Huskies did not have a 100-yard rusher for the first time since the 2013 Shippensburg game when Franklyn Quiteh led the way with 82 yards rushing. This year vs. Shippensburg, Dai’Shon Munger paced the Huskies with 56 yards rushing. That total was the lowest for a lead BU rusher since Quiteh finished with 43 yards rushing vs. IUP in 2011. IN ELITE COMPANY The run of success for the Huskies over the past 15 years is nearly unparalleled in college football. Bloomsburg has won seven or more games in 15 consecutive seasons – a streak that is impressive at any level. Only four schools in the divisions of NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III) have a longer streak of seven or more victories – Florida State and Virginia Tech in the FBS; Northwest Missouri in Division II and Mount Union in Division III. The 15-year streak is also a PSAC record, surpassing the previous mark of 13 straight years set by IUP from 1984-1996. TAKING THE STAIRS TO THE END ZONE Dylan Stair recovered a fumble during the first quarter of the Huskies’ 3830 win over Shippensburg and ran 17 yards for the touchdown after Justin Shirk had forced Shippensburg running back Blair Brooks to fumble behind the line of scrimmage. It was the first fumble return for a touchdown by the Huskies since Sept. 15, 2012 when Tony David recovered a fumble in the end zone during a 44-37 win at home over Kutztown. outube.com/watch?v=O8IjyohQnRQ&feature=yo TAKING IT TO THE HOUSE Bloomsburg had three touchdowns from defense and special teams in its 38-22 win at Mercyhurst in Week 3. That total represented a tie for the most touchdowns on returns in a single game over the last 20 years. Bloomsburg had three interceptions returned for touchdowns in a 50-39 win over East Stroudsburg on Oct. 31, 1998. The last time Bloomsburg had two interceptions returned for a score in the same game was Oct. 11, 2003, a 50-7 win vs. Millersville. LABADIE HAS DAY TO REMEMBER Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Bill LaBadie likely won’t soon forget the Week 3 win at Mercyhurst as the first-year player recorded his first career interception and made the most of it, returning it 41 yards for a touchdown. The play sparked a span of three turnovers generated in less than three minutes as the Huskies rallied from a 14-0 deficit. ROBINSON’S HOUSE CALL Senior cornerback DJ Robinson picked off Mercyhurst quarterback Brendan Boylan in Week 3 and returned the interception 48 yards for a touchdown, the second interception return for a touchdown of his career and a personal longest. His first INT return for a score came in the 2012 season opener at Stonehill and spanned 28 yards. In all Robinson has three touchdown returns at BU, also adding a 70-yard punt return for a score on Sept. 24, 2011 vs. Millersville.
#UNLEASHED
@GOBUHUSKIES • #UNLEASHED RIGHT WHERE THEY WANT THEM There has been a common theme in four of the first five games this season – Bloomsburg battled back from an early deficit to win the first four contests. At Stonehill, Bloomsburg trailed 7-0 early and 7-3 late in the third before rallying for a 24-7 win. Against Cal, the Vulcans led 3-0 until the final seconds before halftime. At Mercyhurst, the Lakers led 14-0 in the second quarter before the Huskies battled back to lead 18-14 at intermission. Shippensburg also lead 3-0 before Bloomsburg pulled ahead late in the first quarter. HUSKIES WORK OVERTIME Bloomsburg needed overtime to defeat California, 24-21, in Week 2. Needing an extra period has been a rarity for the Huskies in recent years the Cal win was the first overtime game for Bloomsburg since a 10-7 loss in OT vs. Gannon at home in 2009. Bloomsburg’s last overtime win at home before Week 2 was a 35-28 victory at home over Kutztown in 2003. BU also played an OT game at East Stroudsburg in 2005, a 31-24 win for the Huskies. HITTING THE CENTURY MARK Bloomsburg’s run defense has been strong against opponents in recent seasons. Just one player rushed for over 100 yards against the Huskies in 2013 - Rondell White of West Chester in the second round of the NCAA playoffs. White also ran for 100+ yards against the Huskies in 2012. Brandon Brown-Dukes of Mercyhurst joined White in the two-man 100-yard rusher group vs. BU the past two years when he finished with 102 yards on 23 carries in Week 3 this fall. WINNING VS. THE WEST Bloomsburg has been dominant in PSAC crossover contests over the past 15 years. Since 1999, the Huskies are 45-14 vs. PSAC West teams and are 24-5 against Western foes at Redman Stadium. THIS TIME THEY COUNT Under new rules adopted by the PSAC for this season in all sports, all mandated conference matchups will count toward divisional standings. As such, the Huskies PSAC crossover contests against Western Division members California (PA) and Mercyhurst will go toward BU’s PSAC East standings. The lone exception will be the final week of the season - the PSAC slate ends the season with a week of crossovers including the PSAC Championship Game, but those games will not count toward the divisional standings as the title game will be set following the penultimate week of the season. ROAD SUCCESS The Huskies have not been afraid of travel in recent years, posting a 26-7 record away from home since 2009 (.788). Bloomsburg won all five of its road games last season and have won eight consecutive regular season road games dating to 2012. GROUND AND POUND The Huskies have had at least 30 rushing attempts in 53 straight games, dating back to Oct. 31, 2009 - a record that nearly was broken in Week 9 of 2013 when Bloomsburg ran exactly 30 times vs. Shippensburg and again in Week 3 of 2014 when the Huskies once again rushed exactly 30 times at Mercyhurst, a 38-22 win. RUNNING TO DAYLIGHT Entering this week’s game, Bloomsburg has an on-going streak of 37 straight games with at least one rushing touchdown – the last time the Huskies failed to run for a score came on Sept. 15, 2011 at IUP. PUTTING UP THE POINTS The Huskies are 108-3 when scoring 40 points all-time. Bloomsburg tied the school record of seven games with 40+points in 2013 (2005, 2007, 2012, 2013).

BLOOMSBURG FOOTBALL GAME NOTES
@GOBUHUSKIES • #UNLEASHED
FROM THE ARCHIVES By Bloomsburg University Archivist Bob Dunkelberger The 41 points scored last Saturday marked the first time this year the Huskies have scored 40 or more points in a game. They have now reached this total at least once for the 22nd consecutive season, a total of 88 games, with 24 coming in just the past five years. Bloomsburg has now scored 40 more points against collegiate competition 111 times in program history, with an overall record of 108-3. The Huskies have won their first five games for the fourth consecutive season and 14th time in program history. After accomplishing this feat just seven times in its first 107 seasons, the team has now reached the mark for the seventh time in the last ten years. Bloomsburg celebrates its 87th Homecoming this week since the first one was held in 1928. The record of the football team in 84 previous games (there was no team in 1942 and 1943) is 53-30-1. The Huskies have won five straight and ten of eleven. The most common foe has been Millersville, with Bloomsburg’s record against the Marauders at Homecoming being 10-7.

BLOOMSBURG FOOTBALL GAME NOTES
S E A S O N
Paul Darragh was named head coach of Bloomsburg University on Dec. 6, 2013 after being appointed as interim head coach in February 2013. Overall he will be starting his 18th season with the Huskies in 2014. During the 2013 season Darragh led the Huskies to a 10-2 record, a PSAC championship and a berth in the NCAA playoffs as part of the strongest season for any first-year head coach in school history. Following the season he was honored as PSAC Eastern Division Coach of the Year. Under Darragh’s leadership, the Huskies had four All-Americans including Harlon Hill Awardwinning running back Franklyn Quiteh who was honored as the top player in Division II. Bloomsburg also had national finalists for the Cliff Harris Award (top small school defensive player, Larry Webster), Gene Upshaw Award (lineman of the year, Brian Clarke) and Fred Mitchell Award (top place-kicker, Danny Fisher). Following the season, defensive end Larry Webster became the sixth player in Bloomsburg history to be selected in the NFL Draft as he was picked in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions. Darragh previously served as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator for 16 years under legendary head coach Danny Hale. Under Darragh’s leadership the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top-half of the PSAC in total defense seven of the past 11 seasons, including back-to-back second place finishes in 2000 and 2001 and a second place in 2009. The Huskies have also ranked among the best in the PSAC in run defense finishing first or second five times, including second in two of the last four seasons. The 2009 Huskies finished third nationally in scoring defense (13.36/game), pacing the PSAC. BU also led the conference in sacks, ranking 14th nationally (3.09 per game). In 2010 the Huskies were eighth in Division II in rushing defense (85.38 yards per game). Overall under Darragh’s leadership, the Bloomsburg defense finished in the top-15 in NCAA Division II six times since the 2000 season. Darragh has also coached 58 first team All-PSAC performers, 11 All-Americans and two PSAC East Defensive Players of the Year in Anthony Smith (2009) and Mike Varanavage (2010).
