MATCH UP: Though not an official title, this week’s game will serve as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Football Championship, as the winner will advance to next week’s PSAC Championship game. Both the Huskies and Golden Bears are undefeated in divisional play, guaranteeing the victor an outright PSAC East title. THE HEAD COACHES: Huskies coach Danny Hale (West Chester ‘68) is in his 18th year at the helm of the Bloomsburg program. Having achieved his 150th win this season against Shippensburg, Hale has a 152-50-1 (.751) record and the most wins in school history. For his career, Hale is 192-63-1 and his winning percentage of .752 is ranked among the top 10 active coaches in Division II and top 20 D-II coaches all-time. Hale has led BU to six playoff appearances, including the latest in 2008. He has been honored as the PSAC East Coach of the Year 10 times, the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year nine times, and was named the AFCA National Coach of the Year following the 2000 season. Having taken the reins in 2006, Raymond Monica is in his fourth season as head coach of the Kutztown program. In that time, he has a 26-26 (.500) overall record. Prior to coaching the Golden Bears, Monica spent eight seasons as an assistant at Temple, and nine seasons coaching at D-II powerhouse North Alabama, winning three national championships from 1993-1995. In 1988, he made his coaching debut at Northeast Mississippi Junior College, the same school where he had earned all-state honors as a quarterback for two seasons. PSAC EAST: This is the final week of PSAC divisional play. After this week, the Eastern Division teams will travel west for their last game of the regular season.

WEST DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP: The fate of the Western division title rests in the control of Mercyhurst College. A win by the Lakers would secure at least a share of the regular-season crown and a berth in next week’s PSAC Championship. If Mercyhurst loses to Clarion, California could jump into the title game with a win over Edinboro. Should both Mercyhurst and California lose, the two would share the division title, and Mercyhurst would advance by virtue of its win over the Vulcans. SCOUTING KUTZTOWN: Entering the final week of Divisional play, the Golden Bears are the only team to average more points per game than the Huskies--a league-high 41.1 points per game. Kutztown also leads the conference in total offensive yards (441.6), passing yards (299.0), pass efficiency (160.9), and kickoff coverage (net 43.2 on average). The Golden Bears are also the only team to have successfully prevented three on-side kicks. Quarterback Kevin Morton has demonstrated his prowess on the field and is the conference leader and No. 7 passer in the nation in efficiency (161.41). Morton’s 329.33 average yards in the air are the 11th most of any quarterback in Division II. The sophomore has thrown for 2,691 yards and 29 touchdowns so far this season. Morton has shown an impressive ability to distribute the load to a variety of receivers. Five different Golden Bears have caught more than 20 passes this season, each for multiple touchdowns. Erik Frazeir leads the way with 47 receptions and 6 TD’s for 685 yards. Chris McCormick has 34 receptions and half a dozen scores, despite having missed two games. Colby Tuell (2 TD’s, 499 yards), Josh Smith (8 TD’s, 443 yards) and Josh Mastromatt (6 TD’s, 293 yards) round out Kutztown’s powerful receiving corps. On the ground, Kutztown’s leading rusher is Kendell Coleman, who has netted 434 yards this season. Josh Mastromatt has had similar success, with 422 yards on the year. Defensively, Kevin Bolinsky has the fifth most sacks per game in D-II, averaging 1.06 per game. He has 49 tackles on the year and is responsible for stealing over 70 yards in tackles for loss.

Last Meeting #4 Bloomsburg 31 - C.W. Post 12 September 19, 2009 KUTZTOWN--The fourth-ranked Bloomsburg University Huskies extended their road winning streak to 11 games with a 31-12 win over Kutztown University. Bloomsburg took the lead when sophomore Derrick Price, seeing his first action of the season, scored on a three-yard run. The score capped a 91-yard drive with the big play being a 56-yard completion from Dan Latorre to Jordan Weisman. Kutztown got on the board at 10:18 of the second on a 30-yard field goal by Matt Dineen. Bloomsburg would score with 33 seconds to go before half when Dylan Manni caught a two-yard pass from Latorre to make it 14-3. On Kutztown’s next possession, BU linebacker Anthony Smith made an interception for the second straight game and returned the ball to the Kutztown three-yard. Two plays later, Latorre hit Chris Tressler to extend the Huskies’ lead to 21-3. The extra point on the play by Jon Koenig came from 40-yards out due to two penalties and pushed Koenig’s streak of consecutive PAT’s to 72. In the second half, Kutztown looked to drive in its first touchdown of the day when it got to the Bloomsburg 10-yard line, but a sack by Smith and Todd Givler pushed the Golden Bears back and forced a 33-yard field goal by Dineen early in the fourth period. Koenig pushed the Huskies lead to 24-6, when the senior stepped back and drilled a career-long 50-yard field goal one week after hitting a then career-long 47-yard field goal. Later in the period, the Huskies made it a 31-6 game when Price would run 29-yards for a score. Kutztown tacked on a late score to make the final 31-12. Price finished with 105 yards rushing and two scores, while Smith was one of four defenders with seven tackles each for the Huskies. Bloomsburg Kutztown

Bloomsburg University Football Game Notes

RECORD PASSING STREAK: Junior Pat Carey has now thrown at least two touchdown passes in each of the last eight games. Though Eric Miller strung together seven such games in 2000, no other Bloomsburg quarterback has ever had multiple TD throws in eight straight. The BU record for at least one touchdown pass in consecutive games in the regular season record is 16: by Glen McNamee for the last nine in 1994 and first seven in 1995; and Miller for the last 5 in 1999 and all 11 in 2000. Including the playoffs that season, Miller reached 20. AMONG THE RANKS: Bloomsburg is the No. 13 team in Division II for the second straight week according to the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll. In the D2Football.com media poll, the Huskies sit in the No. 14 position. LEADING THE NATION: For the seventh week this season and sixth straight, Franklyn Quiteh, is currently atop the Division II rushing leaderboard. His average of 160.44 yards per game is just less than three yards more than runnerup Phil Milbrath of Michigan Tech (158.44). Milbrath’s sudden appearance on the leaderboard comes after his 294-yard performance in his team’s upset of Grand Valley State last weekend. Across all divisions, Quiteh has racked up the most yards rushing (1,444) and was the first runner to reach the 1,000-yard mark this season. STIFLING THE OPPONENT: In nine games, Bloomsburg has held its opponents to fewer than 20 yards on 69 of 118 (58%) of their total drives. On 28 of those drives (24% of the total), the Huskies forced a punt after only three plays. In its last game against C.W. Post, Bloomsburg held the Pioneers under 20 yards on six of 12 drives.

FROM THE ARCHIVES By Bloomsburg University Archivist Bob Dunkelberger The Huskies have won eight consecutive games by double-figures, the longest such streak in their history. The previous best had been six, accomplished most recently in 2000. If not for the last second touchdown by East Stroudsburg every game in the current streak would have been won by 20 or more points. This is the 11th time in school history a Bloomsburg football team has won eight or more consecutive games during a single season. Seven have been accomplished under Coach Hale, including five times in the past six seasons. Since the final game of the 2004 season the football team has a record of 58 wins and only 12 losses in 70 games. All but four of those victories occurred in five long winning streaks: two eight-game streaks, two 12-game streaks, and one school record-tying 14-game winning streak. During the 70 games the Huskies’ record has been 28-6 at home and 30-6 on the road. A victory over Kutztown would give Bloomsburg an undefeated regular season home record, which would be the first since 2006 and seventh under Danny Hale in his 18 years as head coach. Bloomsburg’s all-time record versus Kutztown is 42-20-1 in a series that began in 1927, with a home record of 24-7-1 and 18-13 on the road. The Huskies have defeated the Golden Bears 17 consecutive times, the second longest stretch against a single opponent in school history, surpassed only by the current 21-game victory streak over Cheyney.

THROWING THE BOMB: The Huskies have thrown five passes of 50+ yardage this season. Pat Carey connected on four touchdowns from the Bloomsburg side of midfield: 66 yards to Cory Stiger (Clarion), 68 yards (Indiana) and 62 yards (Cheyney) to Kyle Fisher, and 52 yards (Shippensburg) to Chris Tressler. On BU’s other long pass, tight end Ben Weaber hurled 53 yards to Fisher on a trick pass that ended on the West Chester three-yard line. BREAKING LOOSE: Bloomsburg has recorded 18 rushes for 20 yards or more this season, five of which ended in touchdowns. Franklyn Quiteh is responsible for all of these long scoring runs, as he found the endzone from 45 and 68 yards against Clarion, from 25 yards against Millersville, from 23 yards against Cheyney, and from 37 yards against West Chester. EXTENDING THE RECORD: Currently the nation’s leader in field goals per game, redshirt freshman Daniel Fisher is now in exclusive possession of the Bloomsburg single-season record for field goals completed. The previous record was set in 1986 when Chris Mingrone was successful on 10 of his 20 attempts. On October 30, Fisher also broke the BU single-game record, which stood at three entering the season. His average of 1.89 field goals per game is the best in all of NCAA Division II.

Bloomsburg University Football Game Notes Last Week #13 BLOOMSBURG 36 - WEST CHESTER 16 October 30, 2010

BROOKEVILLE, NY—Placekicker Daniel Fisher made a school record five field goals and Franklyn Quiteh rushed for 134 yards and a score to lead 13th-ranked Bloomsburg University to a 36-16 win over C.W. Post in a PSAC Eastern Division matchup. The win was the eighth straight for the Huskies and sets up a showdown with Kutztown for the PSAC Eastern Division title. Bloomsburg started quickly in the game with the help of a turnover from the Pioneers on the first play of the game. On the first carry of the game, C.W. Post’s Thomas Beverly fumbled with the Huskies’ Mike Varanavage recovering at the Pioneers’ 31yard line. Six plays later, quarterback Pat Carey hit Andre Morales with a two-yard scoring strike to make it 7-0 just 2:29 into the game. A big play on the drive was a 12-yard run by Matt Cox putting the ball at the CWP two-yard line. The Huskies added to their lead later in the period following a missed field goal attempt from the Pioneers. After the miss, Bloomsburg moved from its own 21 to the C.W. Post 24-yardline before the drive stalled. From there Fisher connected on a 41yard field goal for a 10-0 lead after one period. The Pioneers next drive ended with another fumble, this time with Thomas McFarland making the recovery at the Post 44-yard line. The Huskies moved the ball to the Pioneers’ 13-yard line before settling for a 30-yard field goal from Fisher and a 13-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Wallace Jamison recovered an on-side kick giving the Huskies the ball at the C.W. Post 47-yard line. Bloomsburg again moved the ball inside the red-zone before the drive stalled with Fisher connecting for the third time and a 16-0 lead. The Pioneers got on the board with the help of some penalties by the Huskies later in the second period. After starting a drive at their own 10-yard line, Bloomsburg was called for penalties on four consecutive plays with the last being a holding call in the end zone, which by rule is a safety, making it a 16-2 game at halftime. Bloomsburg made it a 19-2 game on the opening drive of the second half when the Huskies drove to the Pioneers 20-yardline before Fisher hit his fourth field goal of the game, a 37-yarder with 10:35 to play in the quarter. The BU defense came up with its third turnover of the game on the Pioneers first drive of the second half when Jarrett Pidgeon intercepted Eric Anderwkavich and returned the ball 26 yards to the C.W. Post 15-yard line. However, three rushing plays netted just two yards and the Huskies had to settle for a 27-yard field goal from Fisher, his record fifth of the game making it a 22-2 game. C.W. Post cut into the Huskies lead after recovering a fumble by the Huskies. Anderwkavich hit Darnell Williams with a two-yard pass to make it 22-9 through three quarters. The Huskies stretched their lead on the first play of the fourth period when Carey hit former high school teammate Cory Stiger with a 42-yard touchdown pass to make to 29-9 with 14:50 left in the game. C.W. Post answered that score on its next drive marching 80 yards in 13 plays with Anderwkavich throwing a 19-yard scoring pass to make it 29-16 with 10:26 to play in the game. Following a Bloomsburg punt on its next drive, the Pioneers failed on a fourth down conversion at their own 30-yard line. From there Quiteh, Division II’s leading rusher, covered 27 of the 30 yards in the drive scoring from three yards out to make it a 36-16 game. The Bloomsburg defense then held forcing another failed fourth down conversion attempt and taking over on downs. The Huskies ran out the final two minutes and ran their winning streak to eight. Quiteh finished with 25 carries for 134 yards and one score, while Carey was 7 of 18 with one interception and two touchdown passes. REGIONAL RANKINGS: In this season’s first edition of NCAA Regional rankings, Bloomsburg was tabbed as the No. 5 team in Super Regional 1. The final NCAA Regional Rankings determine which six teams from each of four super regions advance to the Division II Championship tournament. No conference is guaranteed a playoff berth unless a team from that conference is ranked among the top 8 teams. If this week’s rankings were final, this “Earned Access” rule would exclude the Huskies from the tournament, as New Haven and Saint Augustine’s would overtake Bloomsburg for the final two berths. Regional rankings as of 11/1/10
