Mr. Shoup was born in Illinois, and at the age of 21 went to Texas where he first entered the lumber g'ame, staying in that State 5 years during which he was employed by the Buell Planing Mill Co. at Dallas, the Lufkin Land & Lumber Company at Lufkin, and the Kirby Lum- ber company at Beaumont. Leaving Texas he went to St. Louis where he rvas for 5 years with the Huttig Sash and Door Co. He then moved to Arizona and was f.or 4l years with H. W. Ryder, lumber dealer, at Phoenix, after rvhich he launched into business for himself in 1913. Howard is shown on the left of the group of the picture of the force.
