In this environment, confidentiality is essential for creating a safe and supportive atmosphere. Nurture Relationships Building a support system isn't just about connecting; it's about nurturing those relationships. Show gratitude for the support and guidance you receive. A simple "thank you" can go a long way in strengthening your connections. Remember to give back by offering your expertise, insights, or assistance to others in your network. Building a support system is a two-way street, and your willingness to help can strengthen relationships. Stay connected with your support system, even if it's just a brief message or catch-up call. Regular contact reinforces your bonds and ensures that these relationships remain strong and beneficial. Finally, celebrate each other's milestones and successes, no matter how big or small. Acknowledging achievements fosters a positive and uplifting atmosphere within your support network. Remember, your support system doesn't have to be huge. Quality trumps quantity. What matters most is that you have a reliable group of individuals who genuinely care about your success. So, whether you're just starting your entrepreneurial journey or you've been at it for a while, it's time to put building a support system at the top of your to-do list. You're not alone on this rollercoaster ride; there are plenty of fellow thrill-seekers out there ready to share the adventure with you. Together, we can conquer the twists, turns, and loop-deloops of entrepreneurship and come out stronger and more successful on the other side. BuildingHerDream.com

INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW

BUILDING HER DREAM LIFE With Kimberly Henry Meet Kimberly Henry from Troy, New York. She is the founder of Million Dollar Memoirs and has been in business for two years. During our chat, we learn all about Kimberly’s work and her journey as an introverted entrepreneur.

Kimberly, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today. Before we dive into what you do, tell us what your dream life looks like. I am working on my dream life. It includes speaking globally to audiences of men and women who inspire to be a change in the world, who feel like giving up due to difficult and challenging circumstances. It also includes being an author of several published books. My dream life is also giving back to different communities including women leaving domestic violence relationships, starting over again at 30 and over, and children living in poverty. I want to work with children of all ages to teach mindfulness and ways to handle their stress. I didn’t have this as a kid and now I want to pay it forward. Tell me more about what you do and who you help. I am a speaker and writer as well as help entrepreneurial leaders to get their life story written and out to the world. I am speaking my story of domestic violence after being raised by two alcoholics and repeating the patterns of familiarity with men

who had their own addictions. I left my daughter’s father who was an addict when I was shy of my 23rd birthday and chose to be a single mom. I help women and men who are afraid to leave, who think that they don’t have another choice in theeir life, and who know that they are meant for something bigger than themselves. I help folks who have a desire to leave their legacy for their children and future generations. What inspired you to start this business? I wrote my memoir in 2020 during the lockdown of COVID-19. I realized I can help others to leave their legacy in this world by writing life stories. I feel writing is healing. It helped me to see what I overcame and I discovered the amount of compassion and love that I have for myself after going through

all of my obstacles. I also see where I come from and it is a long line of women who suffered from grief and trauma. I want to be the one to break the cycle in my family and future generations.

They saw something in me that I didn’t see at all in myself. They inspired me to change my worldview of myself and my past. They inspired me to see a possibility that didn’t exist prior to meeting them.

How do you harness your introverted qualities as strengths in your business?

What's your vision for the future of your business, and what legacy do you hope to leave?

Meditating daily, listening to podcasts that evoke me to learn and share what I learn with others. I also use my listening skills when I am with others so that people get that they are heard and seen. I want people to know that they are valued and loved. Building a support network is essential in entrepreneurship. How have other people played a role in your growth and development? I have had many mentors, peers, family, etc who played a role in my growth and development. There are too many to list. They are people who believed in me more than I believed in myself.

My vision is expanding my speaking engagements and

strengthen the skill of speaking. I intend to leave a legacy of compassion, caring, courage, bravery and vulnerability. I also intend to leave a legacy of empowerment, change, making a difference, and spreading love. As far as

expanding my speaking engagements, I intend to be a TedTalk speaker. Can you tell us about a pivotal moment in your entrepreneurial journey that had a significant impact on your success? The moment of realizing that I can make a difference in other people's lives. As someone who was raised by two alcoholic parents, I never felt like I mattered or could make a difference in other people’s lives. Once I got that if one person hears my story of experiencing domestic violence, and they see a new possibility for themselves and makes a change in their life to live a life different than what they saw before, I have succeeded. What has been the most rewarding experience for you as an entrepreneur? Connecting with others, making new friendships, feeling supported around likeminded individuals. I also have felt like I am seen, heard and understood like never before.

I intend to leave a legacy of compassion, caring, courage, bravery and vulnerability. BuildingHerDream.com

INTERVIEW

One of my favorite quotes is an African Proverb. If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together. How do you define success for yourself and your business? Success for myself and my business is making an impact in this world. Like I stated before, if one person hears my story and feels inspired to make a change in their life because they get that they are not alone, I have succeeded. Do you think it's possible to maintain a healthy work-life balance as an entrepreneur? If so, how do you do it? Yes. I feel it is possible with having daily practices such as meditation, journaling, listening to my favorite songs/music, listening to podcasts that help me to learn about others or myself. It is also possible to with making my self-care a priority such as stretching daily, drinking water, eating foods that support giving my body energy as well as having relationships in my life that support happiness, positivity and feeling supported. What have you learned about yourself and your business throughout your journey? I have learned that I am persistent. I am resilient. I finally get why people will often ask me how do I still keep going after experiencing the trauma that I have in my life. What advice would you give to other introverted women who are just starting their own businesses? You are not alone. Seek someone who has experienced what you have and they have overcame it. Ask them questions on what helped them and what didn’t help them. Ask for support with what would help you to move forward.

5 TIPS FOR HARMONY AT HOME We know how the entrepreneurial life is. It’s more than a full-time gig. It often stretches beyond the realm of the 9-to-5 grind that brings visions of sweet, regular paychecks and evenings off. But that's not the life chosen by us, no ma’am! That's not what makes our hearts race and our inspiring dreams a reality. However, keeping up with this bubbling energy, we often find our personal lives on a back burner, and that's less than ideal. Fear not! We’re here with some genius hacks to make your personal life less stressful and, dare I say, smooth sailing. Are you ready? Let's dive in!

1

Hire a Housekeeper

Here’s the reality: Cleaning up and putting things in order can eat up a lot of your time. You're already a master delegator at work, so why not bring that skill home? Hiring a housekeeper does not make you lazy or incapable. It does make you smart, though! Bid farewell to the stress of keeping your house spotless and say hello to some much-needed spare time.

2

Embrace Meal Prep or Delivery Services

I'm sure we can all agree that by the end of a long day, the last thing we want to do is whip up a gourmet meal. Enter meal prep and delivery services. A simple way to ensure you're eating healthy without having to spend ages in the kitchen. Besides, who said every meal needs to be a MasterChef-worthy work of art? 28

ARTICLE

3

Utilize Online Shopping

With the staggering number of tasks on your plate, even a quick trip to the local supermarket can seem like a task. Why not turn to the blessing that is online shopping? Avoid queues, and save time, and with just a few clicks, you can have everything delivered right to your doorstep.

4

Outsource the Extras

You're swamped with work and the laundry pile is beginning to rival Mount Everest. What do you do? You outsource! Be it laundry service, a dog walker, or a professional organizer. There is no shame in leaning on these conveniences to lighten your load. It's a win-win situation. You get things done, while also helping another business. Now how entrepreneurial is that?

5

Block Out "Me" Time

Listen carefully, ladies: Taking time out for yourself is not a sign of irresponsibility, it’s a necessity. Schedule your "me" time just like any other appointment in your calendar. Treat it with the same rigor as a business meeting. Be it yoga, reading a book, or just a quiet cup of coffee - it helps recharge your batteries and gives you the strength to carry on.

The bottom line is, while the hustle and grind of being an entrepreneur is essential, so is your personal life. It's time we stopped treating it like a secondary existence and began giving it the importance it deserves. At the end of the day, a less stressful personal life translates into a more productive work life, and isn't that the ultimate goal?

THE STRENGTH IN ASKING FOR HELP You're here tackling the world, building your dreams, hustling every day, owning it, and wow, it's impressive! But you know what's also super important and impressively brave? Taking a step back, raising your hand, and saying, "Hey, I need a little bit of help here."

BuildingHerDream.com

31

ARTICLE

Yeah, you read right. I just said the infamous 'H' word - "Help." Now, before you break out into a cold sweat, let me assure you – asking for help is NOT a sign of weakness, no matter what the hustle-hard culture might lead you to believe. Quite the contrary, it's something to be proud of, and here's why. It's Human to Need Help

Cue Faster Learning and Growth

First things first, remember we're humans. I know you may be soaring high like Wonder Woman, but like her, we all have our kryptonite. We aren't designed to conquer everything alone.

You know how you sometimes struggle with something for hours only for a fresh pair of eyes to solve it within minutes?

We thrive as a species because we learn, grow, and shine in cooperative environments. Let's become each other's strength, not competition.

Asking for help can save you from unnecessary stress and enable you to learn faster. While it might dent your ego temporarily, think about how much you'll grow in that process.

It's a Strength, Honestly!

Time to Squash the Stigma

Got a challenging situation at work? Or perhaps you're struggling to keep your personal life from collapsing under the weight of your professional duties.

Many of us associate asking for help with failure or weakness. But ladies, it's 2023!

It's time to ask for help. When you do, you're not just admitting that you're human (which is totally okay), but showing that you're wise enough to recognize that you can't—and don’t have to—do it all by yourself.

Big Perks for Relationships Asking for help doesn't just help you, it also strengthens your relationships. It allows people to step up and lend a hand, making them feel good about being able to contribute. You're giving them the opportunity to be a part of your life in a meaningful way. So, you're not just getting help, you're deepening connections too!

32

BuildingHerDream.com

It's high time we squash this outdated stereotype and recognize that seeking help is, in fact, a sign of emotional intelligence and resilience. To wrap it up, remember that everyone needs help at some point or another, so don't let the fear of being judged prevent you from asking. Embrace the strength in seeking assistance — after all, we're all in this together. So next time you feel overwhelmed and wonder how you're going to tackle everything on your plate, remember these wise words:

Asking for help isn't a weakness; it's just being smart.

NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES IN EVERYDAY LIFE Once upon a time in our professional lives, networking was synonymous with stuffy conference halls, artificial LinkedIn messages, and a gravitational force pulling us toward the appetizer table. Don't be surprised when that person you helped while targethunting at the canned food drive turns out to be your best advocate in securing your dream job. Stay Present, Stay Open Remember that networking

doesn't have to be a high-pressure, formulaic process. Sometimes, the most compelling connections occur when you least expect them. That's why it's important to stay present and remain open to striking up conversations with people you encounter daily. Whether it's the friendly barista or that chatty neighbor you bump into every time you're trying to retrieve your mail, keeping the conversational door open paves the way for unanticipated networking gems. FLUSH OUT THE FRENEMIES Sorting the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly in Your Network

Ever spent a business lunch biting on stale breadsticks, listening to someone drone on about their achievements, returning back to your desk grumpier than before? Or sat through meetings with that collab partner who seems to get a sickening joy from shooting down your ideas? We've all been there—navigating the murky waters of professional relationships. But here's the bright side: your energy is too precious to spend on connections that don't serve you well. Let’s chat about how to distinguish between friends and foes in your professional arena, so you’re left with valuable, uplifting connections only.

46

BuildingHerDream.com

The Good: Beneficial Banter Alright, let's start with the good stuff. Positive professional connections are the kind you'll willingly take a 7 A.M. meeting for, even with eye bags out to compete with your carry-on. These are the people who seem to give off an almost luminescent glow, ready with encouraging words, brilliant ideas, and

probably a killer espresso machine to boot. They challenge you, not out of ego, but out of mutual respect and the incentive to grow. These individuals value collaboration, not competition. They're more interested in creating a win-win scenario than in having the last laugh. They believe in the crazy idea that we can all succeed together. Wild concept, right?

So, pull these people closer. Incorporate more discussions, brainstorming sessions, and yes, even long office hours with them. Because these are connections that fundamentally make you feel good, empowered and, even in tough times, more capable than you thought you were.

The Bad: Tainted Ties

shouting from the rooftops about their toxicity. Some can be subtle, quietly chipping away at your confidence or well-being. They're the snide comments disguised as jokes, the oh-so-casual dismissal of your ideas, and the constant one-upping of your achievements. Sure, it might seem like banter or even harmless ribbing to some, but over time, these seemingly minor jabs can really affect your sense of self-worth. They can have you second-guessing your own competence and holding back on sharing your ideas for fear of ridicule. Got a colleague who spends hours talking about the very same problem, without ever getting down to the nitty-gritty of fixing it? Yup, that's a time vampire for you. They constantly demand your attention but don't reciprocate support, instead leaving you with an overwhelming feeling of "I could have better spent these hours binge-watching cute cat videos." Time vampires sap your energy, gobble up your brain space, and distract you from all those "little" things that need your focus (you know, like your work!).

We've all been there—trapped under the weight of someone's ego or getting sucked into a vortex of draining interactions. Bad professional relationships are like that dying plant in the corner of your office, desperately needing sunlight and water but somehow still sticking around. Tainted connections might not always be

The Ugly: Unclogging the Drain It's a tough pill to swallow, but letting go of harmful demons within your network can be the necessary cleanse your professional life needs. It's all about self-preservation and protecting your splendiferous mental space. Try to have an open conversation about what's bugging you, before heading straight for the exit. Not the easiest chat to have, given how much we all love confrontation, but in many cases, it's the right way to handle things. But if all round-table discussions lead nowhere? Just like ridding your mailbox of junk mail, you need to pull out the "unsubscribe" card. This could mean phasing out communication, passing on certain projects, saying no to meetings, or in some cases, considering a business shift. While this may seem drastic at first, remember that your professional growth and mental well-being are paramount. You can't sip the sweet nectar of success when you're constantly wrestling with toxicity. Remember to be kind to yourself throughout this process. Unclogging takes time, but it sets the foundation for healthier relationships and a nurturing work environment. Celebrate this hard-won victory—you've just chosen a sunnier ride on your entrepreneurial roller-coaster. Bravo!

BUILDING HER DREAM LIFE With Kimberly Fowler

Photo Credits T Simmons & Company

Meet Kimberly Fowler from Jonesboro, Georgia. She is a business coach in the tax industry, She helps tax professionals increase revenue in their tax business by identifying and attracting their ideal clients through tailored marketing strategies. Kimberly‘s mission is to become an incubator for early business growth stage tax professionals.

Kimberly, before we dive in, tell us what your dream life looks like. I am still working to achieve my dream life. The goal is time freedom. I'd be living in a luxurious beachfront property, perhaps in a tropical location like Bali or the Maldives. My home would have a dedicated workspace overlooking the ocean, allowing me to work with a view that constantly inspires me. The sound of the waves would be my daily soundtrack, providing a calming backdrop to my busy workdays. Because I've created a Signature Framework, the business would be running like a well-oiled machine. I dream of having a team of experts who manage the day-to-day operations, allowing me to focus on what I love most— coaching and strategy. My I.D.E.A.L framework would be a recognized standard in the tax preparation industry, and I spend a lot of time speaking at high-profile events and making guest appearances on webinars.

lot of things right while growing this business and a lot of things wrong! Because I had to scratch and scrape to understand how to get my tax business up and running, I was inspired to help as many new tax business owners who were in that exact same situation and provide a blueprint for them to follow. How do you harness your introverted qualities as strengths in your business? Because introverts often excel in situations that require deep focus and analytical thinking, In my line of work, this translates into breaking comprehensive concepts so that my audience can understand. The I.D.E.A.L framework that I created, for instance, has been a product of the

—resilience, compassion, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. It became clear that these were not just personal virtues but also the cornerstones upon which I could build a lasting legacy in my business. This pivotal moment has been a catalyst for profound change. It has deepened my commitment to my work, making me more attentive to the needs of my clients and more passionate about the impact I can make through my I.D.E.A.L framework and my brand. It's as if every client I help, every problem I solve, is a tribute to the incredible woman who shaped me. How do you stay motivated and inspired when things don’t go as planned? I stick to my WHY! The reason that I help tax professionals is because I personally know the feeling. To know that I hold a solution and not utilize it because of something that I am feeling feels like I'm not honoring my spiritual gifts and sharing them like I'm supposed to. What has been the most rewarding experience for you as an entrepreneur? The most rewarding experience that I have as an entrepreneur is putting over 500 tax preparers in business and helping them to generate over 8 million in revenue in a tax season. As a result, the entrepreneurs are able to provide better for their families, invest in their futures, and contribute positively to their communities. They, in turn, will pass on the knowledge and skills they've gained, creating a cycle of empowerment and success that can continue for generations. Is it possible to maintain a healthy worklife balance as an entrepreneur? Yes most definitely! Time blocking is crucial and building a team to work around you is a must. The most important for me is to set boundaries. The people pleaser in me was leading me to burnout so I had to start clearly defining my working hours and make them known to my team and clients. Stick to these hours and disconnect from work outside of them.

What advice would you give to other introverted women who are just starting their own businesses? Practice makes better! You may never feel that it's the perfect time to network because you prefer to be nestled up at home while watching webinars and planning your next big idea, but remember the bigger picture! Leverage your strengths. You owe it to your business to get yourself out there!

How to Thrive on the Wallflower Vine

ARTICLE

Dear fellow introverts, we see you. You're gazing at that swanky event invitation, hosting a dance-off between anticipation and dread. Should you RSVP 'yes' to the promise of sparkling connections or add another checkmark to your declined invitations list?

Fear not! We've got this. We may not be born schmoozers, and we might prefer our coffee chats via our sanctuary webcam rather than at bustling cafes. But introverts are, in fact, stellar networkers. It's just that our way is…well, a little non-traditional. So, relax. Fancy cocktail party invite has landed? Here's your foolproof survival guide —lighthearted, relatable, and perfect for us wallflowers in the entrepreneurial garden.

Own Your Introverted Powers Being an introvert isn't a networking drawback—it's a superpower. Often, we introverts are natural listeners and thoughtful responders. Let the chatterboxes chatter away. Your role? Just lend an ear (or two!). Your thoughtful responses will come naturally. This deep level of engagement is appreciated and memorable, making you a magnet for genuine connections. Despite the hustle and bustle of a cocktail party, this focus on the individual makes the atmosphere seem less overwhelming and much more manageable. Now, isn't that a brilliant cocktail party hack? Let’s own our love for meaningful conversations and one-on-one interactions. It's our opener to memorable connections.

Let’s own our love for meaningful conversations and one-on-one interactions. It's our opener to memorable connections.

The Early Bird Advantage You've heard it before, "the early bird catches the worm." Well, guess what? That saying doesn't just apply to birds and worms—it's also tailored for introverts at cocktail parties! Arrive early! Stepping into a half-empty room is a lot less intimidating than a packed one. It's easier to strike up a conversation with fellow early birds or chat up the host before they get swarmed. As the room fills

up, you can slowly extend your circle. It's not about being on the battlefield. It's the wallflower way of weaving a comforting cocoon.

Find the Other Flowers Don't worry; you're not alone on your quest to survive the cocktail party jungle. Some beautiful fellow bloomers are hiding their brilliant colors in corners just like you. Grab your drink and make a beeline toward them. Here’s an optional rehearsed one-liner: "Hey, this looks like a quiet spot—mind if I join you?" In this safe haven, you can bond over the shared experience, have in-depth conversations, and exchange valuable networks. And yes,

you can partake in introvert banter too!

Ask Magical Questions Us introverts aren't the biggest fans of small talk, but momentous TED-style speeches may be out of the question too—unless you've accidentally stumbled onto a speaker's podium. The sweet middle ground? Become a conversation wizard and weave your spells with questions. Not only does asking questions allow you to steer the momentum of the chit-chat, but it also lets you listen and engage, translating your caring attitude into potential impactful professional connections.

The Cordial Goodbye Having survived the swirling whirlpool of cocktail networking, a hasty retreat may feel like a speedy sprint for safety, but pause and take a breath. Graceful exits have their charm and power. Thank your host, and make a polite round of farewells to the folks you've connected with. Just a short "I really enjoyed our conversation" can leave a lasting impression, after all, everyone loves to be appreciated.

The Buddy System Feel like all of this is too much pressure? Get a friend on board, preferably another introverted entrepreneur. You can lean on each other for support, split the room to meet different people, and recount tales of survival later. It's the perfect introvert loophole—two wallflowers, one networking event! Let's be honest, cocktail parties can be tough. But they also bring opportunities for connections that could transform your entrepreneurial journey. Remember, networking isn't just about collecting business cards. It's about building genuine relationships. And we wallflowers, with our knack for listening and forming deep connections, are naturals at it. Here's to us introverts, thriving and blossoming on the vine! Grab that cocktail party invite and RSVP 'yes', knowing that you've got your survival guide tucked away in your favorite clutch. Cheers to lighthearted networking and the wonders it can weave for your entrepreneurial dreams!
