950. A WA Bolin basket brooch designed by Barbro Littmarck. 18K gold set with a round brillant–cut diamond, a faceted sapphire, a ruby and a pearl and green enamel, dimensions 2.8 x 3.2 cm, total weight ca 11 g. By WA Bolin, Stockholm 1981. Provenance: Barbro Littmarck, b. 1918 d. 2008, was W.A. Bolin’s chief designer from the start of her employment in 1941, until the mid 80’s. Some of her best known work include the bishop’s crosier and processional cross for Uppsala Cathedral, and work for several other churches around Sweden. Her work often contained a subtle humour, an amusing and quite appealing touch. For a number of years, she made small yellow gold woven basket brooches with ruby and sapphire flowers and enamel leaves. The 57 different basket brooches she made were all unique. Barbro Littmarck is represented at the Stockholm National Museum and at the Goldsmith’s Hall in London..

Prince Eugene Rizo– Rangabe had it made in for his granddaughter’s wedding in 1835, his grand– daughter being Marika von Rosen, marrying Oskar Dickson. Inherited by their son, Osborn Dickson, who gave it to his wife Inga, born Damkier. Due to the Kreuger crash in the 1930’s, Inga’s sister Ellen, married to Walter Dickson, bought it from her. Their daughter Sonja, who inherited the necklace, is the grandmother of the present owners, being the 6th generation owners. Altered in the latter half of the 19th century, the Royal Court jeweller L. Larsson in Gothenburg used two links of the necklace in order to make a pair of earrings. The fitted case containing the set is marked with his name.

Provenance: Kristian Nilsson, born i Karlstad 1942, dead 1989 in Stockholm, was a Swedishcraftsman, gold– and silversmith. He was educated at ‘Konstfack’ School of Arts 1965–1969, and made his apprenticeship training 1971–1973. His work was thought of as individual and eccentric, and attracted a lot of attention at different exhibitions. Kristian Nilsson created his jewellery in his own style. Early in his carreer he attracted important customers, such as members of the Royal Swedish Court and the world famous opera singer Birgit Nilsson. His work is represented in several museums. Kristian Nilsson was frequently called a ‘strange bird’ in Swedish cultural life, far from normative moderation. (d)

Provenance: Kristian Nilsson, born i Karlstad 1942, dead 1989 in Stockholm, was a Swedishcraftsman, gold– and silversmith. He was educated at ‘Konstfack’ School of Arts 1965–1969, and made his apprenticeship training 1971–1973. His work was thought of as individual and eccentric, and attracted a lot of attention at different exhibitions. Kristian Nilsson created his jewellery in his own style. Early in his carreer he attracted important customers, such as members of the Royal Swedish Court and the world famous opera singer Birgit Nilsson. His work is represented in several museums. Kristian Nilsson was frequently called a ‘strange bird’ in Swedish cultural life, far from normative moderation. (d)

1135. A WA Bolin basket brooch designed by Barbro Littmarck. 18K gold set with five round brilliant–cut diamonds and blue and green enamel, dimensions ca 3.5 x 2.5 cm, total weight ca 9 g. By WAB, Stockholm 1951. Provenance: Barbro Littmarck, b. 1918 d. 2008, was W.A. Bolin’s chief designer from the start of her employment in 1941, until the mid 80’s. Some of her best known work include the bishop’s crosier and processional cross for Uppsala Cathedral, and work for several other churches around Sweden. Her work often contained a subtle humour, an amusing and quite appealing touch. For a number of years, she made small yellow gold woven basket brooches with ruby and sapphire flowers and enamel leaves. The 57 different basket brooches she made were all unique. Barbro Littmarck is represented at the Stockholm National Museum and at the Goldsmith’s Hall in London.
