S = Situation I don't know what I want to do with my life, so I need to plan my future.


Situation continued... I want to live in a big city on the east coast. I want to have a big house and a family. I want to make at least $50,000.


O = Options 1. Nurse 2. Journalist 3. Editor 4. Website Designer


Consequences 1. Nurse - As a nurse I would be working on my feet for long periods of time. Cost of School: $25,000 a year Long Term: Become the floor nurse. Education Needed: 4 years Salary: $55,000 Working Conditions: Work in hospitals. On your feet a lot. Support the life I want: Yes. Fit Family's Expectations: Yes.


Consequences 2. Journalists don't make a lot of money and job opportunities for print journalists are dwindling. Cost of School: $ 25 - 30,000 a year Long Term: Work for a successful newspaper/magazine Education Needed: Bachelor's Degree Salary: $25,000 Working Conditions: Lots of office work. Support the life I want: No. Fit Family's Expectations: No.


Consequences 3. Editors have to work their way up and it could take awhile. Cost of School: 25 -30,000 a year Long Term: Be the editor of a major magazine. Education Needed: Bachelor's Degree, Double major in English and Journalism Salary: $57,000 Working Conditions: Lots of office work. Support the life I want: Yes. Fit Family's Expectations: Sure.


Consequences 4. Website designers don't always make very much money. Cost of School: 25- 30,000 a year Long Term: Design websites for big companies and businesses. Education Needed: 4 years Salary: $35,000 - 80,000 Working Conditions: Office work. Can work from home. Support the life I want: Yes Fit Family's Expectations: Yes.


H = Hypothesis 1. Editor 2. Nurse 3. Journalist 4. Website Designer I chose Editor as my #1 because I like to write and proofread papers and articles. Nurse is my close second because I want to help people.


S = Solution Plan A: Editor Seven Steps: 1. I'm going to work hard to get good grades in high school. 2. Next I will graduate. 3. I plan on attending UNL. 4. I want to get an internship at a newspaper. 5. Graduate with a Bachelor's Degree. 6. Start working at a newspaper or magazine. 7. Work my way up until I'm an editor.


Colleges As a Journalist/Editor I would attend UNL. UNL has an excellent journalism program. As a Nurse I would attend either UNL or the Med Center in Omaha. The best option is would be the Med Center, but it is a private school.
