LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Friends of St. Anne Catholic School,
I would like to personally thank each of you for the generous gifts you have bestowed upon this community. 2
I can hardly believe what an exciting and fruitful year 2014-2015 was for St. Anne Catholic School. The school successfully completed our accreditation from the Texas Catholic Conference on Education Department and ended the almost two year process with exemplary remarks in all areas. The seven member committee that spent a week on our campus was especially pleased with the presence of our Catholic Identity, as they witnessed students and faculty who embrace their Catholic faith in both word and deed. The committee also commented that a major strength of the school was our sense of community and the opportunities for students’ spiritual growth as well as the active partnership we have established with parents. Our curriculum and assessment evaluation received all outstanding and excellent
ratings, especially in the area of integrating technology into a curriculum that challenges and supports students for future learning. It takes many hearts and hands to make a school successful; parents who support the education mission of the school, a generous parish community that feels pride about our school, and many, many volunteers who give tirelessly of their time, talent and treasure to this important ministry. I would like to personally thank each of you for the generous gifts you have bestowed upon this community. I am humbled by your support and love for the children of St. Anne Catholic School. Sincerely,
Kathleen A. Barnosky Principal
LETTER FROM THE PASTOR My Dear Friends in Christ, One of my favorite roles as pastor is to write a few words of praise about St. Anne Catholic School. After listening to the remarks from the accreditation team, I have learned that I am not alone in thinking that St. Anne Catholic School is remarkable. We are beyond capacity in our student enrollment, with a waiting list. Our faculty remains stable and highly experienced. Our principal and administration are held in high esteem in the educational system of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The high honors our students have received bear witness to the excellence of their education. Our students are being formed as Catholic Christians in the classroom and through Mass and liturgical celebrations. The reverence and piety they demonstrate toward the Church are strong indicators of their preparedness to celebrate and participate in the Holy Eucharist. All of this is possible because of your support and trust. Please know that I am very proud and grateful to be the Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Community. Be assured that you are in the prayers of the entire parish and the Basilian Fathers of St. Anne. Yours in Christ,
Fr. Alvin A. Sinasac, C.S.B. Pastor, St. Anne Catholic Community

FIESTA 2014
FIESTA is the school and parish’s largest fundraiser but more importantly it brings together all members of the community for a great day of fellowship. - Dawn Martinez, FIESTA Chair 4
On October 19, 2014, St. Anne Catholic School hosted its 66th Annual Fiesta. Blessed with fabulous weather, amazing volunteers and great food, the community experienced a day that was spectacular on all accounts. “FIESTA is the school and parish’s largest fundraiser but more importantly it brings together all members of the community for a great day of fellowship” said Dawn Martinez, FIESTA Chair. FIESTA combines carnival rides and games with BINGO, a giant garage sale, lots of entertainment, a raffle with a $10,000 grand prize and incredible food booths. “Whenever I mention FIESTA, someone always asks me if a special food booth is going to be there. People have their favorites and want to make sure they can still get that special something on this one day” said Martinez. Whether it be meatball sandwiches, tostadas or sliders, the food is always a big hit! FIESTA is not only a successful money maker; the day is also the largest single use of volunteers at the parish. Where would we be without our volunteers? Well, FIESTA would never happen! “Along with a core team of about 15 volunteers who work on FIESTA
for several months, it takes more than 200 volunteers on the day of to make FIESTA happen” said Martinez. Each year more and more parishioners choose to help by working booths, setting up and volunteering their time, talent and treasure to the festival. FIESTA is held on the third Sunday in October. We invite you and your family to come out and enjoy the festivities while supporting St. Anne Catholic Community.
FIESTA 2014 FIESTA is such an integral part of the St. Anne Catholic Community. The school and parish work together to raise money to benefit St. Anne Catholic School and the religious education programs of the parish. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of hundreds of volunteers, we had another outstanding day, making this our 66th fabulous Fall FIESTA. The final numbers for FIESTA 2014 are as follows:

SCHOOL BOARD UPDATE 2014 - 2015 During the course of the 2014 – 2015 school year, the Saint Anne Catholic School Board pursued many endeavors to maintain the reputation of excellence. Those endeavors were highlighted by the successful school accreditation by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department in January of 2015. The School Board was heavily involved in both preparation and presentation to the visiting accreditation committee. In addition to helping maintain a balanced budget and marshaling reserves, the School Board was instrumental in increasing non-tuition based revenue by providing an opportunity and subsequently supporting the School’s efforts in managing the Annual Giving Campaign. Finally, critical school infrastructure upgrades were identified and completed during the 2014 – 2015 school year, including the replacement of network servers and implementation of a seamless wireless network throughout the school.
Respectfully submitted, Jonathan Garza, MD, School Board President

GOLF TOURNAMENT On April 28, 2015, about 65 men and women came out to Black Horse Golf Club to take part in the Seventh Annual Friends of St. Anne Catholic School Golf Tournament. The tournament is designed to raise money for advanced technology needs of the school. The roster was filled with parents, alumni, a couple of great faculty golfers, Father Jay Walsh and many friends of the parish and school. Although the weather was unseasonably cold for an April day, the tournament was a fun way to raise money for the advanced technology needs of the school. The rains held off and the group collectively raised over $7,700 for technology. Three players, Ed Billings, Greg Foley and Tournament Coordinator, Ben Guinther, received recognition for playing in all seven tournaments and another five players were recognized for having played in at least five tournaments. The team of Eric Feighl, Jeff Hill, Aaron Hawley and Eric Lodge won 1st place in the tournament, while the foursome of Charles Turner, Walt Syzamnowski, Greg Foley and Social Studies Teacher, Ann Soderman, came in a close 2nd place.

STEPS FOR STUDENTS Ten years ago, the Archdiocese of Catholic Schools began a fun, new program called Steps for Students. It was a 5K run in The Heights that raised money for inner city schools. Fast forward to 2015 and the program has changed drastically. Steps for Students has changed locations and now finds its home at the Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral. The small event now has well over 10,000 people attending and raised over $1Million dollars for all Catholic Schools last year. For many years, St. Anne Catholic Schools sponsored the games for the post race party with the help of parent Christie Billings, the PTO and the National Junior Honor Society. Now, we are part of the Catholic School Village joining in the fun and festivities of tailgating after the race. Currently, St. Anne takes the money we raise through race entry fees and donates 50% of our proceeds back to our sister school, Sacred Heart in Crosby. At the 2015 race, St. Anne raised $5,753 in fees and added $2,876 to our Annual Giving Fund. A goal for the Steps for Students program in 2016 at St. Anne is to increase our participation to 150 participants and to raise $7,500 through the program.
You can help! Registration is already open for the 2016 race to be held on February 20, 2016! Go to steps4students.org and register for the St. Anne Houston team and then join us in making a difference in Catholic school education!

ALUMNI BRIEFS This past summer, St. Anne Catholic School was invited to be a part of two reunions. The classes of 1975-1977 hosted their reunion in April. More than 50 alumni and guests came from all over the country to be a part of an amazing evening. The reunion was coordinated by Susanne Lee, Sandy (Lee) Dean and Mary (Earthman) Ward. As the guests entered, St. Basil Hall had been transformed with class pictures from the years and notes of best wishes and get well soon, to send to Father Klein, the pastor at the time. The group also had some guest teachers at their reunion, including Ms. Reynolds, Mrs. Godwin, and Mrs. Juliana Miller, the Assistant Principal along with some of the Sisters of Divine Providence. A few alumni who could not make it to the event, still did not miss out, as the group used Skype to have a group chat in the middle of the reunion. The group took part in tours of the school, a great dinner catered by fellow alumnus, Brina D’Amico, and an evening of music, dancing and catching up with one another. Then in June, the class of 1965 hosted their 50th class reunion. The group was excited to see the changes on campus and to catch up with long lost friends. Coach Schwarzbach made a surprise appearance and got the group quiet for announcements, just like he did in 1965. Over the year, we also caught up with a few alumni: Trá Poehlmann, III, Class of 1984 is a member of the Houston Fire Department at Station 78 on the B shift. Erin McCauley Mireles, Class of 1979, “I have been married to a wonderful man for almost nineteen years. I graduated from Schreiner University in 1990 with a degree in English. I have four grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and two more on the way. Go shamrocks!” Jerome Baumeister, Class of 1968 is the proud parent of a new generation of St Anne students. His daughters, Erin, Kara and son Matthew all attend St. Anne Catholic School. In January, Jerome became an employee of St. Anne Catholic Community as the

ANNUAL FUND While St. Anne Catholic School was preparing to celebrate its 85th birthday, the school launched its inaugural Annual Fund. The Annual Fund allows St. Anne Catholic School to continue being one of the premier Catholic schools in the Archdiocese. Tuition and fees help to cover the basics of educating a child in mind, body and spirit. The Annual Fund provides for all the enhancements that help make St. Anne Catholic School a great school. Tom and Danielle Aleman graciously chaired the inaugural year of this campaign. Tom is a 1985 alumnus of St. Anne Catholic School. “Danielle and I knew from the time of our marriage at St. Anne that we wanted to bring the Basilian motto of “Teach Me Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge” to our children. Today, they are the proud parents of four children, three of whom are already proud, St. Anne students. As the Annual Fund Ambassador Family (a great name that they coined), the Alemans were instrumental in helping families to see how their gifts would make a difference. Under their leadership, the Annual Fund hit their initial goal and continued to soar. The goal of this inaugural year was $125,000 which we surpassed. By the end of June, the Annual Fund had yielded more than $160,000 in donations. We are most thankful to the Faculty & Staff, School Board and PTO Board who supported this drive with 100% participation.
