Our Hareytale, A True Story In 1986, a fishing accident propelled our family into navigating a wayward journey from tragic loss to hopeful healing. Our wise grandmother, Elsie Attaberry lovingly gathered us to her sewing room, showing us how to make delightful treasures out of spools of thread and scraps of fabric while she mended our broken hearts. She taught us that when you give glad dreams to others, your own joy returns. While we sewed and mended together, Gram tickled our imaginations with wild tales of rabbits who survived many hardships and that now lived, she suspected, in her garden by the bay. One day she told us, “You girls need some fresh air. Run out outside and see if you can find my bunnies.”

Founded in 1986, the world of Cricket Island was created for two little girls in response to events that unexpectedly propelled their family into navigating a wayward journey from loss to hopeful healing. Cricket Island was a safe haven for children. A place where the true heart of a bunny named Mrs. Elsie Attaberry could tend her children and mend two sisters. As these two families lived side by side, one in a green house still standing today and one a bunny hutch in the garden, the endearing results of this Hareytale®, eventually became known as Bunnies By The Bay®. Inspired by their “Gram”, who told them the only way to bring joy back into your life is to bring joy to others, sisters Krys and Suzanne started crafting One Of A Kind bunnies named after their friends and family. What started out as a healing hobby to keep hands and minds busy and to keep the memory of lost fishermen alive is known today as the best baby gift company in the world.
