n Safety equipment (mask, ear and eye protection) n Drill with driver and 4mm bit n Orbital sander with 180-grit abrasive disc n Tape measure and pencil n Mitre saw n Nail gun with brads n Spatula n Cloth n Angled paintbrush n 19mm-thick dressed pine trim• n Construction adhesive n Wood filler n Primer n Mini roller and tray n Water-based enamel paint (we used Dulux ‘Aquanamel’ gloss in Blue) n Door handles
1 Using a drill with driver bit, take the doors off the frame and remove the old handles. Place each door on a flat surface and lightly sand all over using an orbital sander with 180-grit abrasive disc, to create a ‘key’ for the paint.
2 Measure and mark the position of the trim, then cut the timber to size using a mitre saw. Tip: Cut the longer vertical pieces first, put in place, then check the measurements of the shorter horizontal pieces before cutting them.
3 Use construction adhesive to attach trim and secure each piece with a few nails. Fill nail holes and joins using a spatula and wood filler, then allow to dry before sanding. Wipe away dust with a damp cloth, apply primer to trim using an angled brush and allow to dry.

BeforeThere’s no need to splurge on new doors if you’re bored with the old flush-profile ones. You can achieve a sleek, modern update by getting creative with what you’ve already got. Here’s how we gave this dated wardrobe a contemporary panel finish. Watch
4 Using a clean angled brush and mini roller and tray, apply two coats of enamel paint, drying after each. To attach new handles, drill through the trim and secure using the supplied screws. Tip: Painter’s tape on the drill marks helps stop the bit skidding. Rehang the doors.
We chose a sweet pink, Dulux Lily Legs, for our stand to complement the fabulous feature wall – see page 20
