In partnership with Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, the Timbergrove Sports Association (TSA) recently broke ground on a new sports field. Once completed, TSA softball league participants will be able to play at TSA facilities, rather than going to an off-site location. “Memorial Hermann Greater Heights is happy to support an organization that encourages kids to get active and learn important life skills like teamwork. We hope by instilling a love of sports in young kids, they will continue to maintain active, healthy lifestyles as adults, says Susan Jadlowski, Senior Vice President and CEO, Memorial Hermann Greater Heights. This is the first year Memorial Hermann Greater Heights has partnered with TSA. “Timbergrove Sports Association is proud to partner with Memorial Hermann Greater Heights as we continue to deliver a safe, fun, and competitive environment for youth athletes. Through the generous support of Memorial Hermann Greater Heights, TSA achieved our goal of building a fifth field to provide a home for our expanding softball program. This

TSA offers three different sports programs for hundreds of children ranging in age from 4 to 15 years old. TSA expects the field to be finished by the start of the fall 2017 sports season.

Owner anticipation for Aladdin GOOF location growing every day By Landan Kuhlmann landan@theleadernews.com Unique cuisine is not difficult to find in a melting pot city such as Houston, but at times can be a pain to reach -- but not anymore. Coming in early 2018, local residents will no longer have to trek away from the neighborhood to find the hometown delicacy of Aladdin Mediterranean Grill courtesy of owner Ali Nahhas. Aladdin offers a variety of Mediterranean salads, spreads, vegetable dishes, sandwiches, shawerma, shish kabob and fresh baked pita bread, and Nahhas is chomping at the bit to bring the delectable Greek cuisine to the Garden Oaks and Oak Forest neighborhoods. “When I started my old business [in Meyerland], it was within a neighborhood, within a family-style community, and this to me is extremely exciting. It’s not about just being a part of the neighborhood, it’s about be-

Heights Swim and Social Club seeks a larger community connection Summer is a time parents simultaneously love and harbor some apprehension for — what to do to help children release that pent-up energy while not driving them crazy? Well now, a group of Heights neighbors are banding together in efforts to find that balance while streamlining a sense of community within the burgeoning Houston neighborhood. Earlier this summer, Heights resident Alex D’Ambrosio and other neighbors were searching far and wide for a way to get a pool in the neighborhood. While the immediate area consists of multiple city pools, D’Ambrosio said the hours and availability were limited, and the neighborhood lacked a community meeting spot, so they took it upon themselves to kick-start the Heights Swim and Social Club. “We’re at the point where we started a 501 c (7) club. We’re selling bonds that will cover the cost to purchase the land as well as constructing the facilities, he said. The idea behind Heights Swim and Social Club, he noted, is the concept of an old-style country club, where

ing the Mediterranean spot to go in the neighborhood, he said. “It’s also about me exploring this neighborhood and being that little spot within the community — to me, that’s amazing, and I’m really looking forward to it.
Slight variance, same great taste His Garden Oaks/Oak Forest location, he said would be 70 to 80 percent similar to Aladdin’s current home at the corner of Montrose and Westheimer Road, but will
feature more kabobs, more appetizers and a heavier focus on the salads in efforts to make create an array of family-friendly options. While he loves the Montrose area, Nahhas said expanding with a second location within a burgeoning neighborhood is the fulfillment of a dream. “I always wanted to have an Aladdin be part of a neighborhood. Montrose is a neighborhood, and we have a lot of people coming here after they visit museums, but it’s different when you’re actually a part of the neighborhood, Nahhas said. “You know everybody by name, and it’s like this relationship that you have. You tweak [the offerings] based on what’s popular in that neighborhood. He believes Leader residents, many of whom already make the drive out to Montrose, will quickly take to the See Aladdin P. 3B
