THIS YEAR THE Florence Biennale will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary

in the impressive Palazzo Corsini. Seventy-six carefully selected dealers, based mainly in Italy, will present objects for sale ranging in date from antiquity to modern times. All artworks will be meticulously vetted for quality and authenticity by a distinguished team of international experts.

Here we illustrate a small selection of works to underline the range and high standards buyers and enthusiasts can expect to encounter.

To mark this anniversary year the Palazzo Corsini will undergo a transformation under the guidance of interior designer Matteo Corvino. The new layout of the fair will embody a mix of modernity and elegance.

A separate exhibition will be held at the event comprising works drawn from the art collection of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, which has supported the Biennale for many years. Two painters have been selected from distinct epochs as its focus; the Florentine Pietro di Chellino (1383–1459) and Pietro Annigoni (1910–88), who lived and worked in Florence for much of his life. A recently restored and virtually unknown altarpiece by Pietro di Chellino will be presented along with eight portraits and figurative compositions by Pietro Annigone, often known as the ‘Painter of Queens’.

Coinciding with the fair will be the eagerly anticipated exhibition; The 16th Century in Florence. From Michelangelo to Vasari at the Palazzo Strozzi which opens on 21st September (until 21st January 2018). For those wishing to visit both events there will be a joint ticket scheme.

was greatly missed in 2016 due to the unavailability of the exhibition space at the Royal College of Art. However, the annual celebration of Modern, Post-war and contemporary British Art will return this September and occupy the Mall Galleries, an established exhibition space and home to the Federation of British Artists. With its spacious white rooms and proximity to the art market hub of St James’s the new venue promises to be an ideal home for the event. The fair will be slimmed down to the thirty-four leading dealers and galleries that best exemplify British art and its movements since 1900. Paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints to suit all tastes and pockets will be offered for sale. Visitors can expect to find museum-quality pieces by household names such as Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Barbara Hepworth and Lucian Freud along with more affordable works by lesser-known artists.

Simiolus has become a journal of record for studies in Netherlandish art. Over the past decades, we have had the privilege of publishing many of the most influential and exciting papers in the field, and our ambition to continue doing so remains undiminished. We are therefore interested in all original contributions on the history of Dutch and Flemish art especially, and if accepted, offer to pay for the cost of translation into English of manuscripts submitted in Dutch, German or French.

Volume 39-3 has just been published and contains six studies on Hieronymus Cock and his print publishing business, one of them accompanied by a reprint of the fully annotated stocklist of the print publisher Joannes Galle. The last issue of this year’s volume, to appear in December, will feature contributions on Joseph’s workshop in the Mérode altarpiece by Macolm Russell, on Hieronymus Bosch in colonial Peru by Daan van Heesch, and on Gerard de Lairesse and Jan Steen by Rosalie van Gulick, among others. Volumes up to and including volume 37 can be accessed through jstor. Later ones will be added in due course.

THE ART NEWSPAPER IS LOOKING FOR AN EDITOR The Art Newspaper is the leading and most influential publication online and in print about the news and workings of international art world, with its main office in London and a subsidiary in New York.

Its readership is largely in the various professional branches of the art world, such as museum directors, cultural property lawyers and the art trade etc etc (B2B), but it also has a substantial following among art lovers (B2C).

The Art Newspaper is looking for an editor, who, first and foremost, will be an experienced, rigorous and creative journalist and editor, with an excellent news sense in the field of the visual arts, but who will also have the organisational skills to allow The Art Newspaper to diversify beyond its current products.

Currently these are daily news online, a monthly print edition, and daily print newspapers at the major art fairs internationally. The editor will be expected to complete the transition to being “digital first”, which is already underway.

The areas of future diversification will be specialist reports, video and podcasts, in the context of a thorough-going recalibration of the relationship between the monthly edition and the online news.

The Art Newspaper will also be organising events that will require the creative input and presence of the editorial staff and editor.

The editor will be expected to set up and manage the teams for each of these activities (except events), using in-house and external forces where needed.

The editor will be expected to maintain and develop collaborative and creative relationships with The Art Newspaper’s sister papers, the Giornale dell’Arte, Le Journal des Arts,The Art Newspaper Russia and The Art Newspaper China, all the papers acting as a news service to each other.

A knowledge of foreign languages would be an advantage, but not indispensable, but an internationalist outlook is essential.

The editor will be expected to represent the paper by lecturing, chairing and organising meetings, and being present at exhibition openings etc.

The editor must be flexible, creative, quick-off-the-mark, a good chief, with a capacity to motivate and direct the teams.

The job, which is fulltime, is based in the London office, but with frequent contact via skype with, and regular visits to, New York.
