BRITISH ART FAIR 2018 SAATCHI GALLERY, LONDON SW3 | 20-23 SEPTEMBER | BRITISHARTFAIR.CO.UK
AFTER TWO YEARS of uncertainty since the 20/21 British Art Fair lost the
use of the Royal College of Art, the event has now relocated and is under new ownership. The newly termed ‘British Art Fair’ is to be staged this year at the ideally suited Saatchi Gallery in the Duke of York Square, Chelsea, and will occupy all three floors. Fifty dealers have signed up to the event, reinforcing the long-held notion that this is one of the most popular fairs for both exhibitors and the visiting public. Aficionados of Modern British art will not only enjoy the works on display but also find an unparalleled collegiate atmosphere where knowledge is shared unreservedly. Works from the early years of the Modern British period by William Nicholson and Walter Sickert will be presented together with other masterpieces of the twentieth-century including works by David Bomberg, Ivon Hitchens, Elisabeth Frink and Henry Moore. In keeping with the gallery’s own objective, contemporary objects will also be in plentiful supply. Fabulous two-dimensional works by Garden, W6, by Victoria Crowe (b.1945). Oil on board, 58.4 by 71.1 cm. JENNA BURLINGHAM FINE ART, KINGSCLERE, HAMPSHIRE
household names such as Bridget Riley and ceramics by Grayson Perry will be for sale alongside works by lesser-known artists. Specially curated displays will coexist with the fair and provide an added dividend for visiting scholars, collectors and enthusiasts. Twenty-five paintings by the celebrated landscape artist Ivon Hitchens (1893–1979) will show how his work evolved. This will be curated by the eminent dealer and Hitchens specialist Jonathan Clarke. A second presentation will be mounted by Piano Nobile, a Holland Park gallery, showing works by Anthony Caro (1924–2013) alongside paintings by the writer and critic John Golding (1929–2012). The two friends championed a British take on American abstract expressionism which, having flourished in the 1970s, will be explored here. For more information please visit: www.britishartfair.co.uk
