IZNIK-STYLE SAMSON DISH DECORATED WITH A PEACOCK An exact copy of a highly important Iznik dish (c. 1560–1570) in the Wallace Collection (inv. No. C199).

Painted in exquisite light and dark blue, vibrant coral red and emerald green. In the centre is a peacock resting on a khatai blossom and a saz leaf.

The peacock is surrounded by another khatai blossom on the top and a gracefully curved branch adorned with saz leaves and spring flowers.

The arrangement, with the peacock in the heart of the composition, forms a round organisation which creates perfect harmony with the form of the dish. The border decoration surrounding the central composition consists of intertwined coral red rumis and blue blossoms with green leaves.

The ornamental border creates a rich contrast with the naturalistic central composition.

T H E S E V E N T H I N S T A L M E N T of Frieze Masters will return to London’s Regent’s Park this autumn with an impressive array of works of art from over 130 international galleries. Contemporary art will be showcased in the simultaneously staged Frieze London, where works must have been created within the last ten years. The picturesque environs of Regent’s Park will also play host to Frieze Sculpture, an outdoor installation of twenty-five modern and contemporary works. With an eye towards a more inclusive approach, this year’s fair has broadened the specialisations of exhibitors to incorporate more old master and Asian art.

Of great interest will be a rare showcasing of paintings by the celebrated American artist Richard Diebenkorn on the stand of Van Doren Waxter, New York. Tim Marlow, from the Royal Academy of Arts, London, returns to manage the Frieze Masters Talks programme which centres on conversations between women artists and international museum directors and curators. Toby Kamps, from the Baffer Art Museum, University of Houston, takes the reigns of Spotlight, which will include solo presentations of works by avantgarde artists. Another feature of the fair will be Collections. Sir Norman Rosenthal, an independent curator, will oversee a display of extraordinary objects, sourced by specialist dealers and galleries.

Featuring the widest array of art ever presented at Frieze Masters, this year’s fair promises to yield much for the visiting collector, curator and connoisseur.

Established in 1991, the fair has evolved into the world’s largest and most prestigious commercial print event. Run by the International Federation of Print Dealers Association (IFPDA), proceeds of the fair contribute to educational programmes and grants for institutions with the aim of strengthening international awareness of the print medium.

Approximately eighty international dealers, galleries and publishers will present a vast diversity of works ranging from Old Master etchings and wood engravings to contemporary published editions.

An added attraction for print aficionados will be New York Print Week, comprising a programme of exhibitions, gallery talks, satellite fairs, demonstrations and openings before and during the fair. 2019 Awards The Leverhulme Trust is currently accepting applications for the following awards Research Fellowships enable experienced researchers to undertake a programme of research on a topic of their choice. Up to £55,000 is available for research costs, replacement teaching costs, or loss of earnings.

Fellowships are offered for periods of 3 to 24 months.

Approximately 100 fellowships are available.

The Art of Contemplation

International Academic Fellowships provide established UK researchers with an opportunity to spend time in one or more research centres outside the UK, to develop new knowledge and skills, for example by learning new techniques, collaborating with colleagues overseas, or developing innovations in teaching. Up to £45,000 is available to provide replacement teaching costs, research and travel costs. Fellowships are offered for periods of 3 to 12 months. Approximately 15 fellowships are available.

Closing date: 8 November 2018

Emeritus Fellowships enable retired academics from UK institutions to complete a body of research for publication.

Up to £22,000 is available for research costs. Fellowships are offered for periods of 3 to 24 months. Approximately 35 fellowships are available.

Closing date: 31 January 2019

Study Abroad Studentships support a period of advanced study or research anywhere in the world, except for the UK and USA. £21,000 a year is available for maintenance and travel; additional help with fees, research costs, and maintenance for dependents may also be provided.

Studentships are offered for periods of 12 to 24 months.

Approximately 20 studentships are available.
