Some Northern European highlights of the fair For more details please visit www.tefaf.com thirty-second year, the European Fine Art Foundation event, TEFAF Maastricht, is still indisputably regarded as the world’s number one art fair. Two more recently founded sibling events, TEFAF New York Spring and TEFAF New York Fall are also prestigious but more limited in scope. The Maastricht fair embraces works from most periods of artistic endeavor from Neolithic tools to contemporary works.

Objects are subjected to a rigorous vetting process and assessed for museum quality, condition and authenticity. This process ensures that visitors can admire and purchase exceptional works with a high degree of confidence. In these two pages we are showing a small selection of Northern European works. Due to the fair’s location there has always been a robust showing of Dutch, Flemish and German paintings and works of art. The Fishmonger, by David Teniers the Younger (1610–90). 1647. Canvas, 85 by 123 cm. AGNEWS, LONDON
Medieval and Northern Renaissance works will be offered by several dealers including a rare 1503 engraving of Christ before Annas by Israel van Meckenham on the stand of Helmut H. Rumbler. From Germany and dating from the early 1300s will be a copper aquamanile in the form of a lion. This elegantly stylised piece will be with Blumka Gallery. Seventeenth century paintings from the Low Countries will be in abundance. For sale with Salomon Lilian will be an exceptional self-portrait by Michael Sweerts showning the artist holding a clay pipe. Another outstanding museum-quality canvas will be A water mill by Jacob van Ruisdael on the stand of Galerie Sanct Lucas. Northern works will be shown in most categories too numerous to show here, including furniture, silver, textiles, arms and armour and modern art. In the next (March) issue we will show highlights of Southern European art and works from other corners of the globe. Also we will reveal details of the museum loan exhibition and other aspects of the fair. For information please visit: www.tefaf.com/fairs/tefaf-maastricht
