Some Northern European highlights of the fair For more details please visit: tefaf.com/fairs/tefaf-maastricht NOW IN ITS thirty-third year, the European Fine Art Foundation’s Maastricht event still remains the world’s most distinguished commercial art fair, embracing most periods of artistic endeavour from the prehistoric to the contemporary. Within the TEFAF stable of events are two more recently founded fairs, TEFAF New York Spring and TEFAF New York Fall. These are also highly regarded for museum-quality objects but smaller and more limited in scope. All works of art are subjected to a rigorous vetting process, which assesses for quality, condition and authenticity. This meticulous process ensures that visitors can purchase works with a high level of confidence.
A mountainous landscape with a herdsman and cattle, by Thomas Gainsborough (1727–88). Black and white chalk on paper, 28 by 36.8 cm. LOWELL LIBSON & JOHNNY YARKER LTD, LONDON
In these two pages we are showing a small selection of Northern European works for sale to reflect the theme of the issue. Due to the fair’s location in Maastricht there has always been a robust showing of Dutch, Flemish, German, French and Scandinavian works. In the next (March) issue the TEFAF highlights will be drawn from Southern Europe and other more distant corners of the globe. We will also reveal details of the museum loan exhibition and include an announcement of the 2020 beneficiaries of the annual TEFAF Museum Restoration Fund. For information please visit: tefaf.com/fairs/tefaf-maastricht
