Titian: Sources and Documents includes all known documents concerning Titian and his work dating from his lifetime and immediately after, and all known references to him in contemporary publications or in later ones containing new information (nearly 3,000 items in all). The relevant section of each text is transcribed in full, preceded by a short summary in English, with extensive annotation and, where necessary, a commentary. The intention of this unparalleled work of scholarship carried on over half a century is to provide a comprehensive survey of the surviving historical evidence about Titian and his career. February 2022 In association with the Burlington Press ISBN: 978-1-912168-23-1 Hardback, 6 vols., 247 × 177 mm Each volume around 512 pages £500 / €550 / $650
This book explains and catalogues the most important collection of 17th-century Chinese porcelain in the world, assembled by the distinguished British diplomat Sir Michael Butler. His passion and knowledge of porcelain is clearly reflected in the more than 800 pieces he selected and lived with at his home and private museum in Dorset. The pots (as Sir Michael called them), many of extreme rarity or exquisite quality, give testimony to the outstanding expertise he acquired over five decades and his outstanding contribution to research and education in the late Ming and subsequent reigns, a previously disdained period that Sir Michael proved to have produced exquisite and unique porcelain.
Subtitled The Quest for Secular Human Happiness Revealed in the Pastoral: Fortunato in Terra, these two volumes are a close and thorough examination of original texts of classical and early and later modern pastoral poetry, literature and drama in Greek, Latin, Italian, French, Spanish, Dutch, German and English, and of a wide range of visual imagery from all over Europe, ending just before 1800. The book analyses the development of pastoral as a representation of the wooing of boy and girl, to whose feelings early modern pastoral, over time, gives increasing voice, and discusses the degree to which, and how, pastoral has to do with rural life, landscape, and self-representation.
