THIS SUMMER, London Art Week will return to its former pre-pandemic strength. Thirty-three exhibitions will take place in and around St James’s and Mayfair showing mainly paintings, drawings and sculpture. However, some works of art will also feature and include illuminated manuscripts, silverware, kunstkammer and Italian maiolica. Seventeen galleries will interpret this year’s theme ‘Music and Dance’. Augmenting this motif, four galleries will be hosting intimate chamber concerts by the Philharmonia Orchestra. These will be held on the 3rd and 6th of July and tickets can be purchased via the website.
Relevant to this issue, several exhibitions of British art will be presented. In particular, Miles Wynn Cato will show rediscovered and unknown works by Joseph Wright of Derby, Thomas Lawrence, Gainsborough and other masters. More British displays will be with Guy Peppiatt, Patrick Bourne, Fine Art Society, Lowell Libson & Johnny Yarker, Abbott & Holder and James Mackinnon.

English Garden Eccentrics Three hundred years of extraordinary groves, burrowings, mountains and menageries
Todd Longstaffe-Gowan In his new book, Todd Longstaffe-Gowan reveals a series of obscure and eccentric English garden-makers who, between the early seventeenth and the early twentieth centuries, created intensely personal and idiosyncratic gardens that expressed the singularity of the characters behind them and which, in themselves, were a form of autobiography.
