Board of Directors

Meet the visionary leaders of the Burnaby Board of Trade, guiding the city’s business community.

Message from the Mayor

On behalf of the City of Burnaby, I am pleased to extend my warm greetings to the Burnaby business community.

Successful businesses are the foundation of a thriving city—not only as economic drivers but also as partners in building Burnaby’s future. Together, we are building a city that is sustainable, inclusive, and full of opportunities.

The City of Burnaby is in the midst of a oncein-a-generation building campaign, delivering high quality recreation and cultural centres across the city. Major projects, such as the new James Cowan Theatre replacement project, the new Cameron Community Centre and Library, and the Burnaby Lake Recreation Complex project are already moving forward. By building these new facilities now, we’re investing in the future of our communityand ensuring we meet the needs of residents as our city grows.

We’re also making great strides in addressing housing affordability. One way we are doing

this is by forging partnerships with the provincial and federal governments, and local non-profit organizations, to add affordable rental units on City-owned land in Burnaby as quickly as possible.

On the transportation front, we are improving connectivity and promoting active transportation options. The Burnaby Lake Overpass is already under construction and will provide a key link for pedestrians and cyclists to major parks and trails.

These are exciting times for Burnaby! I look forward to continuing our strong collaboration with residents, businesses, and organizations like the Burnaby Board of Trade as we build a vibrant city where everyone can prosper.

Warm regards,

Message from the CEO

I’ve been blessed to be with the Burnaby Board of Trade since mid-2024, and I’m excited to start my first full year as part of this incredible organization. In just a few short months, I’ve already seen the Burnaby business community’s remarkable strength, resilience, and achievements. It’s truly inspiring to witness firsthand.

City Partnership

A key area where this partnership shines is in supporting sectors like clean energy, technology, and innovation.

The Burnaby Board of Trade and the City of Burnaby share a powerful partnership, working together to foster economic growth, innovation, and sustainability. As the City’s official economic development partner, the BBOT plays a critical role in driving initiatives that align with the City’s goals for a prosperous future. This collaboration helps create a thriving business environment where companies can succeed, grow, and contribute to the community’s vitality.

Through this partnership, the BBOT helps guide the City’s strategic priorities, ensuring that local businesses have the necessary resources, policies, and support. Whether it’s advocating for business-friendly policies, helping attract investment, or providing insights into emerging sectors, BBOT and the City of Burnaby are united in their mission to drive Burnaby’s economic success. Together, we ensure that Burnaby’s businesses can compete on a global stage while focusing on local growth and sustainability.

A key area where this partnership shines is in supporting sectors like clean energy, technology, and innovation. The

annual Clean Energy Summit is a prime example of how BBOT and the City work together to drive forward-thinking conversations around sustainability. With Burnaby’s strong focus on green initiatives and clean technology, the partnership ensures local businesses have the tools and knowledge to contribute to a more sustainable future.

In addition to sustainability, BBOT and the City collaborate on various initiatives that benefit Burnaby’s business community. From providing vital networking opportunities to creating space for businesses to share ideas, this partnership ensures local entrepreneurs and companies have the resources they need to grow and thrive.

This collaboration between the BBOT and the City of Burnaby is not just about growing businesses; it’s about creating a future where local industries thrive, the community prospers, and Burnaby’s economy remains strong. Together, the BBOT and the City of Burnaby are shaping a bright future where businesses and the city work side by side to achieve success for all.

Connecting Business with Leadership

In 2024, BBOT’s Government and Business Program stood out as a platform for meaningful dialogue between the business community and decision-makers. Hosting unique roundtables and panel discussions throughout the year created opportunities for local businesses to engage with key issues shaping Burnaby’s economic landscape. The program welcomed an impressive roster of guest speakers, including Premier David Eby, municipal leaders, provincial MLAs, federal MPs, and prominent business executives and industry experts. Through interactive Q&A sessions and thoughtprovoking panel discussions, our members had direct access to the policymakers and influencers shaping Burnaby’s future.

The ability for business owners to speak directly with government officials is invaluable. These interactions provide a unique opportunity for business leaders to share firsthand insights, raise concerns, and offer solutions on the issues that matter most to their industries. By facilitating these open lines of communication, BBOT ensures that the voices of the business community are heard by those in positions of power. This direct engagement helps shape more informed and effective policies, ultimately creating a business-friendly environment where collaboration drives growth and innovation. The impact of these conversations extends far beyond the event itself, as they lead to actionable change that benefits businesses across Burnaby.

The ability for business owners to speak directly with government o cials is invaluable.

A highlight of the program was the Government and Business Forum. This event brought together the Mayor of Burnaby, local MLAs, and MPs for a facilitated conversation with the city’s business leaders. The forum provided a space for candid discussions on policy priorities, emerging challenges, and collaborative solutions, reinforcing Burnaby’s status as a vibrant hub of innovation and growth.

BBOT’s Government and Business Program continues to empower our business community to stay informed, connected, and actively engaged with the leaders shaping Burnaby’s success through initiatives like this.
