When there’s no mains power available, the best way to power your electronics is with either a generator or solar power and battery set up. Installing solar is easy to do yourself and our friendly, knowledgeable staff can assist you with the correct solar set up for your needs.
How does a solar set up work?
A solar panel harnesses the suns power and a battery stores this power for you to use anytime. A solar regulator controls the flow of electricity from the solar panel to the batteries to protect them from overcharging. An inverter can also be used to convert battery power to 240V to power household appliances.
Top Tip:
Mains power and house hold appliances are 240V AC and can be dangerous to work with so should be left to the professionals. A solar set up runs on 12V/24V DC and is safe to work with yourself. A 12/24V system can still power 240V household appliances by using an inverter (as long as the solar and battery set up is powerful enough).
What do I need for my solar set up?
A typical solar set up will include a solar panel, mounting kit, solar regulator, battery, fuses and wiring. An inverter is also needed if running 240V or typical household appliances.
What size solar panel and battery do I need?
This depends on what appliances you wish to power and how long for. This can be calculated easily enough, scan the QR code to find out more.
What if there is no sun?
These days solar panels have great low light performance so they still generate power on an overcast day. We also factor this in when working out what size solar panel and battery you need.
