NSFW Series In search of the elusive destruction of the picture plane, these drawings showcase the surface scratch of the hybrid between that which is topo, that which is typo, and that which denotes architecture. Not suitable/safe for work (NSFW), not work-suitable/safe (NWS), or not school-suitable (NSS) is Internet slang typically used in e-mail, videos, and on interactive discussion areas (such as AIA events, awards ceremonies, or cocktail parties) to mark URLs or hyperlinks which may be architecturally explicit or include imagery containing experiments, helping the occupant or observer to avoid potentially objectionable content. Perhaps there are new categories: NSFA [not safe for architecture]; NSFAIA; NSFB [banality]; or just plain NS. NSFW has particular relevance for individuals conducting research on the Internet at workplaces or communities that have policies prohibiting (even inadvertent) access to architecturally explicit content. Companies and individuals frequently adopt such policies because they regard the presence of architecturally explicit content as a misuse of company property (or education resources) and, potentially, a violation of status quo policy. These are dangerous. Do not observe without adult supervision. At no time attempt to inhabit the constructs.
The RIEA.ch book Series presents innovative research and experimental projects in architecture initiated and implemented both by RIEA and individual architects. It aims at exposing such work to a wide professional and lay public, in order to disseminate new ideas, establish constructive discourse, and encourage creative thinking and work in architecture and related fields. MECHUDZU is the sixth in this series of publications to focus on the work of an individual architect. www.riea.ch
