Foreword
In Lak’ech Ala K’in – the Living Code of the Heart In Mayan tradition, there is a greeting that many people working with Mayan wisdom know. It is the law of In Lak’ech Ala K’in, which means I am another yourself (A modern day interpretation). It also means I am you, and you are me (A traditional Mayan interpretation). We have come to understand that this Mayan greeting is an honoring of each other. It is a statement of unity and oneness. In Lak’ech Ala K’in mirrors the same sentiment by other beautiful greetings such as: Namaste in East India, Wiracocha by the Inca, and Mitakuye Oyasin by the Lakota. Regardless of the culture, placing the hands over the heart always accompanies one of these sacred greetings. The more I walk the Mayan path, the more I understand the depth that In Lak’ech Ala K’in teaches. This greeting has become more than a simple, honorable Maya greeting. It has evolved into a moral code, and a way to create a positive reality for all life. As we near 2012 with all its doom and gloom prophecies, we have a moral obligation to Spirit to live according to the code of In Lak’ech Ala K’in. It is common knowledge these days that every action we take in our lives affects all living things. We understand that if we act negatively, our actions impact all life negatively. When we act positively, we affect all life in a positive manner. When we live the Mayan code of In Lak’ech Ala K’in, we know that every action we take is out of respect for all life, and we are living and giving from our hearts. We can give our hearts in a positive manner every day by saying In Lak’ech Ala K’in to each other, to the trees, to the sky, to the birds, and to the stars. You can greet each sunrise by saying In Lak’ech Ala K’in. Each and every day we have together is sacred, so acknowledge this day by giving it your heart. Remember, when you give in this way, you are also giving to yourself! You are not giving your energy away to something separate from yourself. You are giving to another part of yourself! I understand the challenges in staying positive in these days, wherein the energy is so compressed that we can hardly breathe. But there is one simple exercise that can turn it all around for us. Each day, simply walk in gratefulness. We can say In Lak’ech Ala K’in to that which gives us life everyday, and that is the heart of the Great Spirit. Instead of solely taking from the Great Spirit by asking for insight and

direction, give your heart, love, and appreciation in return. You will be amazed at the results. If we open our hearts and send gratitude, it opens all doors that were previously closed to us. Remember, you are a part of the Great Spirit! When you give to Great Spirit, you are giving to yourself. We can practice In Lak’ech Ala K’in tirelessly because when and what we give to others is giving energy to ourselves. When we give, we receive. So how do we know if we giving in the correct manner? It is really simple. When we are energized by our giving, we know we are giving from our hearts and from the code of In Lak’ech Ala K’in. If we feel drained or exhausted, it is possible that we give out of fear, a lack of something, a sense of obligation, ego, or a need to be accepted or liked. The more one practices In Lak’ech Ala K’in, the clearer we will become about our motives of our actions, and the more we will receive. Remember: what goes around, comes around exactly the way it was sent out. If you don’t like what life is sending to you, look at what you are sending out to life. When we begin to live and practice In Lak’ech Ala K’in, a lot of our old ways of doing things will no longer work for us. For instance, we cannot act like victims anymore, and we cannot live out of fear either. We find ourselves no longer preparing for disaster; instead we anticipate a glorious future. It is time for us to rewrite the prophecies. They have become obsolete. The past will become just a bad dream, and the future will become a beautiful vision, which we will create right now. When we practice In Lak’ech Ala K’in, we stop being neutral in our world because we understand that Spirit works with those that take action. We begin to take action by adding to the positive experience of this dimension. So what kind of world do you want? Don’t just stand there waiting for the world to appear in front of you. Spirit helps those who help themselves. It is up to us. When we practice the moral code of In Lak’ech Ala K’in, we are producing and sending positive and vital energy that can literally transform our troubled world into Paradise. When we live from In Lak’ech Ala K’in, we are putting to use our natural ability to create our reality. We are affecting the collective consciousness of humanity in a positive way. The Cosmic Maya, also known as the “Star Elders” or “Invisible Council”, understood this natural power to create their reality. Their sacred calendars mapped the natural laws of the universe. Now it is our turn to come to this understanding. It is time for us to walk as

the Star Elders did so many years ago. The time has come for us to change the world. The more humanity begins to live In Lak’ech Ala K’in, the less we will think in terms of our separateness. There can be no competition, jealousy or envy between us, because we are pieces of each other. We can share and help each other with our connections, ideas and resources without fear that there will not be enough to go around. Translated liberally, this year brings the activation of transformative energy within each of us, our inner ‘storm power’, and the little part of our soul which knows we are going to change. How? By connecting with each other and acceleration of the unleashed transforming energy (catalyzing). The objective is transformation in the service of all. Precisely 260 days before the beginning of the year, on 3 Storm, the storm of 8/9 November raged over Europe. Was this a foretaste of the energy of this year? The Mayans used to anticipate the start of a Storm year with bated breath. The lord of that year was viewed as one of the worst of the underworld – Uac Mitun Ahau! The Storm, with its thunder and lightning, is a violent transformer. Although the goal is always purification, it can be very impressive. It sweeps along everything within its reach. Perhaps that is a good thing, because before the end of this cycle in 2012, there is yet much that needs to be transformed. Those who have not yet faced up to the need to change how we interact with each other will not be able to avoid that necessity this year. Be aware that each experience of your own transformation, is a reflection of what is happening in the world. Every problem you solve by yourself is one less problem on this earth. 26
Storm and thunderstorms played an important role in the creation of life on Earth. During the prehistorical period of the primordial soup, thunderstorms caused a reaction among inorganic materials to create the initial building blocks for life on earth. Even now, thunderstorms are of vital importance to us. The electrical discharges, caused by thunderstorms worldwide, create vibrations of the electro-magnetic fields between the earth’s surface and the ionosphere, the upper hemisphere. These electromagnetic vibrations are called the Schuman resonance. Imagine a string reverberating (as the heartbeat of Earth) at a basic frequency of 7.83 Hz. The frequency may change with the number of thunderstorms in the Earth’s atmosphere. It now appears that plants, animals and humans respond to variations in the Schuman resonance. Frequency variations can influence the way we function. Astronauts spending time in outer space experience rapid fatiguing and disorientation. After installing a gadget that creates these waves artificially, astronauts returned without experiencing the above side-effects. But Storm has another benefit: after the storm, it is always quiet and clean. The air is suffused with negative ions, tiny negatively charged air-particles. This has a beneficial effect on humans. These negative ions are also released at waterfalls and during heavy rainfalls. The resulting air energizes and relaxes our bodies. Storm is the second last of the 20 Solar Seals. Sun is the last one. Sun represents unconditional love, the universal flame within each of us and the bond that links us all to each other. Sun is fine state of being, also called the state of ‘enlightenment’. The Mayans view this as an indication of the new cycle after 2012. It is up to us to take the final step now. Kawak is the great purification before attaining the stage of enlightenment. It is the essential preparation before a shift in consciousness can occur. The Maya do not regard reality as a concrete given, but rather as something that is constantly being created. The power of our collective spirit can change reality. The Maya maintain that a fundamental shift of dimensions is imminent and that powerful galactic forces are combining, in order to assist us humans to change. This year, Tone 3, the Tone of Activation, will activate our transformation. The power of the storm will shake us up, but it will also help connect us with each other. Enormous energy will be released, which can be applied in various ways. The choice is up to each one of us individually.

The 365 day year
Organization of months and weeks As with the Gregorian calendar, every Moon consists of four 7-day weeks. The difference is that the first day of the year in the 13-Moon calendar begins on July 26 (a Saturday in 2008). This day should appear in the top left-hand corner of the 13-Moon calendar. After tests and an opinion poll, we realized that this method caused confusion when planning daily activities. For practical reasons, we decided to work with the week schedule, as we know it from the ‘ordinary desk diary’, starting on Monday, the first working day. Next year we will start on Sunday, to synchronice with the 13Moon calendar.

Journey Board & Castles - The cycle of 52 The Journey Board is another way to represent the Galactic Calendar. Here you see 260 cells as well. At first glance you will notice five radials, each with four arms containing 13 cells. This Dreamspell follows the Wavespells, i.e. 5 x 4 = 20 Wavespells of 13 days. Each radial with four Wavespells is called a Castle. Each Castle lasts 52 days. Each castle has its own color and four gates (portals): the first Seals of the Wavespell. The gate with the same color as the Castle is called a Magnetic Gate.

How to interpret As always, we begin in the East, i.e. the Red Eastern Castle. Herein we begin at the centre at the Red Kin: the Red Dragon (Kin one of the Tzolkin – see arrow). On the 14th day we take a magic flight to the Northern arm of the Red Castle, i.e. the White Wizard Wavespell. After walking through the castle for a total of 4 x 13 = 52 days, we jump to the next Castle (red white-blueyellow): The White Northern Castle. There again we begin at a Red Wavespell: the Red Skywalker Wavespell. In this manner, you continue to follow the chart through all five Castles. Thereafter, you take a magical flight to a higher level – again, to the Red Eastern Castle of Turning. The beauty of the Dreamspell is that one can feel the cycles of time passing: it’s as an eternal movement in spirals through time. The smallest cycles of redwhite-blue-yellow can be clearly followed and the Wavespells are transparently comprehensible: 5 x 4 Wavespells (each 13 days) = 260 days. When you live with the calendar you begin to notice that the castles are in a sense like seasons with their own character. Paying attention to which Wavespell you are in is important but it is also useful to know which Castle you are in. 156

In the meantime, most people have heard that the Maya calendar ends on December 21, 2012. One encounters this date in numerous sources, e.g. games, films, spiritual and non-spiritual books. 12-21-2012 is the date that the long count Maya calendar ends. On December 21, 2012 a new cycle of 26.000 years commences as well as a shorter cycle of approximately 5.200 years. The Maya count this day as 13.0.0.0.0, the calendar having started on day 0.0.0.0.0. Therefore, 13 baktuns have passed, 1 baktun equaling 144.000 days. According to the Gregorian calendar, this is the equivalent of 3114 B.C. and 2012 A.D. (totaling 5126 years). Not only the Maya, but also (among others): the Egyptians, Sumerian, Hopi Indians and the Zulus left inscriptions of the date 2012 on their temples and scrolls. It is certainly a special date. Some people have unjustifiably asserted that December 21, 2012 represents the end of the world. This is incorrect as the following day simply heralds the new calendar with day 0.0.0.0.1. However, the Maya viewed the new calendar as a new period, as the beginning of the 5th world. (They do have tales about how the first, second and third world ended with natural disasters.) Moreover, the final date cannot be determined with certainty by the exact day. December 21 was probably chosen because it represents the winter solstice and the date is attractively full of the integers ‘1’and ‘2’. However, another special feature of this day is that the Earth and sun are in alignment with the center of the Milky Way. Hunab K’u, the lord of creation, resides in the center of the Milky Way, also referred to by the Maya as our cosmic womb. This alignment of the southern solstice with the center of the Milky Way is rare, only occurring once every 13.000 years. As we are so close to Hunab K’u on this date, as well as commencing a new cycle, it is possible that we may enter a new dimension. We could be shifting from the 3rd to the 4th dimension. 161
