GLOBAL 100
COVER STORY: GLOBAL 100
EXCELLING INTERNATIONALLY The Business & Finance Global 100 highlights Ireland’s leading business people who are running international businesses across the world.
T
he Business & Finance Global 100 listing showcases some of Ireland’s outstanding business leaders who are impacting and influencing global businesses and international markets across a diversity of sectors. Remaining competitive in a global market is challenging, and executives are constantly changing and evolving their skills and leadership styles to reflect and adapt to the changing pace of business. This is evident across a wide cross-section of sectors – from banking to philanthropy, politics to technology. Equally, growing a global business in a fiercly competitive environment is also difficult – but as the Global 100 listing shows, there are plenty of examples of Irish business people who are leading the charge.
INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS The Global 100 listing pays tribute to senior Irish business executives across the global Irish business network, acknowledging their many successes, both nationally and internationally – whether rising to senior corporate positions or founding multi-million dollar enterprises. It also highlights the efforts of key Irish leaders worldwide, who through their leadership and initiative have played a vital role in promoting Irish interests abroad, encouraged foreign investment into Ireland and assisted in developing the political landscape of the country.
GLOBAL MARKET OPPORTUNITIES According to PWC’s 18th Global CEO Survey (2015), mature markets – particularly the US, which for the first time in five years ranks above China as CEOs’ key market for growth – look likely to offer the best prospects in the near term. The emerging economies – notably the BRICs, which have been powerful engines of expansion – are now grappling with political and structural challenges, according to the survey. However, underlying drivers of growth, such as youthful populations and a fast-growing middle class, make many emerging economies attractive prospects for the future. EMERGING AND ESTABLISHED From the success of emerging enterprises that are blazing a trail, to the longevity and substantiality of well-established firms, Ireland’s global business leaders and their companies are displaying top level innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit indicative of our national character. Given global market challenges, Ireland’s top global executives and entrepreneurs have excelled in their fields and across the international business landscape in general. Their tenacious leadership, ability to spot and maximise on market opportunities, and their contribution and commitment to Ireland’s economy are testament to their adaptability, innovation and ability to scale large international firms. n October 2015 Business & Finance
