In order to understand the concept of Workspace Analysis, the process can be deconstructed in Symmetrics’ work for Juniper Networks. A few observations here include the fact that at any given point of time a maximum of 45% of the workstations were occupied and this led to a further need in understanding the kind of collaborative work done outside of the individual workspaces. The analysis also showed that there were a multitude of 2 to 3 person meetings held at multiple points of time in varying areas across the floor
in spite of the existing office catering only to larger formal meetings as per generic industry norms. There was therefore, a large imbalance in the type of meetings that were conducted versus the size and nature of the meeting rooms that were used. This brought to the fore an invaluable insight that veered from the initial brief requirement of larger meeting rooms. The study was instrumental in arriving at a strategic approach that navigated away from the brief while introducing a space-optimized, flexible space solution for Juniper. 11

He is also deeply involved in spatial design, concept development and infrastructure planning while ensuring budget optimization and other project-centric deliverables. When not at work, he loves spending his time travelling the globe. He thoroughly enjoys his long, meditative hiking vacations while being at his second home in Waiheke Island, New Zealand. With over 18 years of experience in the architecture, interior and construction industry, Rijo effectively handles projects with a focus on cost management, procurement and contract administration, project schedules and programming and post-construction close-out documentation. Rijo heads the Finance & Procurement team at Symmetrics. His multiple initiatives for Symmetrics are aimed at achieving higher cost optimization in projects to pass on project cost benefits and cost-efficacy to clients. He also has expertise in handling taxation structures especially with regards to STPI and SEZ benefits.
Abhishek has been an Architect and Project Manager for the past 20 years and is a reputed and respected member amongst the architects in the industry. He presently heads the Project Management team at Symmetrics. His portfolio includes Project Management and Infrastructure Design with a focus on project implementation, planning, risk management and engineering sustainability. He has extensive international exposure when it comes to the design and construction industry in the areas of corporate interiors, labs and data centers, retail, entertainment, commercial and industrial architecture.
When not at work, he’s a voracious reader and has a playlist set for every reading. He also loves to take long trips on his bike and doesn’t shy away from cycling to keep himself fit and healthy. He also spends a lot of time with his kids, regularly taking them out for various activities during weekends.
And when he’s not working, he loves to spend time with his 7-year-old son, introducing him to adventure sports and camping. He’s also a co-founder of the Bangalore Pandhis Motorcycle Club and is an avid enthusiast of Harley and Ducati motorcycles. He’s also a Randonneur and endurance cyclist. How We Designed an Office Space for a Brand that Landed Smartphones in the Hands of Every Indian Millennial A glimpse into what went behind the scenes in workspace creation for Xiaomi Keeping Our End User Ahead of Us We begin our design journey with an in-depth understanding of who we are designing for. When we met the dynamic team responsible for the transformation of the smartphone industry in India, we were quite surprised by the number of millennials in their workforce. This meant that we needed to explore a dynamic, agile yet fresh approach to whatever we were going to design for the masterminds of Xiaomi. Going Back to the Drawing Board A blank white page, tons of caffeine, and a bag full of ideas in flux - that’s the kind of great start we always treasure. Once we scrutinised the results of Xiaomi’s workplace analysis and studied the brand guidelines & literature, we were able to explore some modern-day trends in spatial design and internal branding and brainstorm to a definitive start in the desired direction. A Theme that Fits the Scheme of Things Present day workspace themes such as mentoring, socialization and technology find their way into present design ideology. Keeping in mind the vibe of the Xiaomi workforce, we decided on a vibrant theme that formed the basis of our overall approach in building a flexible, standalone workplace. After much deliberation, the theme we arrived at was Seasons. Every floor was designated a color theme based on the 4 seasons - starting from Spring, building up to Summer, Autumn and ending with Winter. Fresh Approach, Unique Concepts and New Designs for the ‘Now’ Generation! • Central Staircase: An internal staircase connecting all floors plays a key role in enhancing the aesthetics of the office space, alongside encouraging employees to climb up the flights instead of elevators The central staircase has a tastefully designed landing area on all the floors. • Open Office: The open office concept has been designed in line with the requirements of Xiaomi. We are no exception when it comes to aspiring for the same and putting in our best efforts to live up to ambition.
got an opportunity to extend the illusion of space by creating a sense of expansion with minimalistic designs and increase the quotient of light by lowering of cubicle heights to allow an unobstructed flow of natural light.
BEING ASIA’S FIRST IN INCORPORATING EFFICIENCY USING LARGEST IN-ROW COOLER INSTALLATION
EMBRACING ORGANIZED CHAOS
And so, when we were approached by Juniper to design their workspace, we set the ball rolling on intensive research with a study called Workplace Strategy, that helped us immensely in the days to follow. While it was necessary to weigh intuition over skeletal requirements, it was also necessary to back our madness with a method. Our goal? To discover an unspoken, yet indispensable need that the space [Juniper office] asked of our architectural prowess and cater to it.
In addition to choosing color palettes and design schemes, reflective of the purpose of a particular space - we broke infrastructure barriers by introducing efficiency in temperature control in a 70,000 sq.ft. data center lab. Residing on the first floor of the Juniper office, this lab is home to equipment stacked on 1150 racks and arranged in 301 rows. Instead of the traditional cooling system, we introduced an in-row cooling system for all the rows, distributing cooling evenly. We are truly humbled to note that this is the largest installation of its kind in Asia with a cooling capacity of 48kW per in-row cooler. The entire construction of the office took 167 days from start to the first move-in. In short, the 10-floor building is a standing example of intuition and inexhaustive research over ask - a physical manifestation of what Juniper’s employees envisioned as their workspace.
BEING A STICKLER FOR DETAILS AND EFFICIENT DESIGN
Upon inspection, we took note of numerous factors that could be customized to cater to the people of Juniper. For instance, when there was a mismatch between the size of the meeting rooms and the average number of participants in a meeting, a need for technology-enabled collaborative spaces arose. We also

Recalling the learnings from the struggling times, he says, “The first thing I learned was to secure your payments. MILESTONES CARVED AND FUTURE PROSPECTS The entrepreneur holds a great vision for the company and visions he had he is making them true. Firstly, he wanted to capture the Indian Market which they did. Secondly, they introduced the entire products of Graphite in Market, which they did and sold almost everything related to Graphite & Carbon. Thirdly, they wanted to capture the market outside India on which they are working now. They are envisioning to export products and work with companies outside India. Fourthly, they are planning to set up a big manufacturing plant and manufacture products like Carbon Fiber which are used in Automotive, Space, Defense, Optical Fiber, Wind Mills. If they set up this plant then, they will work with companies and design products for them & also Manufacture Block Type & N-Type Heat Exchangers which are used in Chemical Industries to store chemicals. They have already started working to set up this project and it shall be completed by 2024.

The most common techniques among all are promoting the workplace for women and minorities who are working under the suppression and bias. The numerous women and other people who are facing discrimination by the leadership roles are still staggeringly low across every industry. Therefore, we need some of the ways and new techniques, for making the work culture sound and systemic to the ways businesses are run. Hereby, many companies focus on making the small adjustments on to how performance and evaluations are done, but a very few works for the equality in workplace. Let us discuss 5 ways by which you can build a company’s culture that promotes and retains women and minorities:-
Make a Council Consider the team meetings by forming a council that comprises a dedicated group of key officials and influential leaders who are one or two levels below the CEO i.e. Managers and team leaders.
