IHG HOTELS & RESORTS’ LUXURY & LIFESTYLE LEADERSHIP POSITION BOOSTED BY STRATEGIC GROWTH, SEGMENT EXPERTISE AND ENTERPRISE STRENGTH

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) continues to build momentum across its Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio – one of the largest in the world. Buoyed by strong growth, IHG’s six acclaimed Luxury & Lifestyle brands represent 20 percent of its overall global pipeline – nearly double what it was just five years ago – and span more than 900 open and pipeline hotels, with over 260 of those in the Americas.

Leanne Harwood, SVP, Managing Director, Luxury & Lifestyle Brands Americas at IHG, said: “From exceptional brand debuts such as Regent Santa Monica Beach and three new U.S. inpipeline Six Senses projects, to awardwinning bars, restaurants and design, IHG has made significant progress in elevating and growing our six renowned Luxury & Lifestyle brands across the Americas. Increasingly, owners, guests and our industry recognize IHG’s commitment to strategic growth, our dedicated and expert Luxury & Lifestyle leadership, and powerful commercial engine.”

Putting Luxury & Lifestyle on the Americas Map

Exciting new openings and signings include presence among the world’s most highly traveled and coveted urban and resort locations:

Six Senses made its debut in the region last year with the opening of Six Senses La Sagesse in Grenada. Its momentum continues with two recent U.S. signings, both of which are set to open in 2028 – Six Senses Telluride, a natural playground tucked amidst Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, as well as Six Senses Riverstone Estate, a picturesque country estate located outside the quaint Western Pennsylvania town of Foxburg. Six Senses joined IHG in 2019, and has 27 open hotels globally with another 43 in the pipeline.

The legendary Regent Hotels & Resorts recently returned to the Americas with the opening of Regent Santa Monica Beach. Combining the glamour of Los Angeles with the splendor of the coast, the destination

resort ushers in a new era of extraordinary experiences with spacious guestrooms starting at a generous 720 square feet; inspired dining concepts from renowned chef Michael Mina and entrepreneur and restaurateur Ayesha Curry; and a 10,000-square-foot Guerlain Wellness spa. Regent Santa Monica Beach joins Regent Hong Kong, Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, Regent Shanghai on the Bund and Regent Phu Quoc in exemplifying this new chapter for luxury hospitality, with Regent Jeddah and Regent Kyoto leading the brand’s next wave of openings.

• With 226 open and 97 pipeline hotels globally, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, the world’s first and largest international luxury hotel brand, continues to open doors to fascinating places and fresh perspectives. Last summer’s opening of InterContinental Bellevue at the Avenue marked the brand’s entry into the Pacific Northwest, while InterContinental San Antonio, which debuted shortly after, is setting a new standard for luxury accommodations in its region. Exciting new destinations for the brand in the Americas include InterContinental Presidente Monterrey and InterContinental Indianapolis, both poised to open in early 2025, as well as ensuing properties in Grenada, Turks & Caicos and Orlando.

As the brand continues its global expansion, upcoming destinations include Frankfurt, a third hotel in New York City, Marbella, The Algarve in Portugal, Kuala Lumpur, Riyadh, Hawai’i, Orlando, Monterrey and Turks & Caicos, among others.

• Centered on creating uniquely local experiences that celebrate the spirit of the neighborhood, Hotel Indigo currently stands as the second largest brand within IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio with 162 properties open across more than 25 countries and a pipeline of 128 hotels. In 2024, the brand expanded its stay offerings in the lifestyle segment and opened its first Caribbean hotel in Grand Cayman while also introducing new resort properties in Bintan Lagoi Beach in Indonesia and Lugu Lake in China. New openings in one-of-a-kind destinations will include Barbados, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Turks & Caicos and St. Kitts.

Raj joins IHG with extensive segment experience, holding roles ranging from general manager to senior corporate positions across a host of leading global hotel companies and brands.

Several members of the Luxury & Lifestyle Americas leadership team received industry honors as segment gamechangers, with Harwood being named one of Hotel Management’s 2024 “Influential Women in Hospitality”, VP of Design & Creative Ave Bradley earning induction into Hospitality Design’s 2024 “HD Platinum Circle”, and VP of Restaurants, Bars and Events Scott Gingerich delivering exceptional experiences, including L.A. Your ticket to cruising the crystalclear waters of Greece this summer is aboard the newly refitted 126’4” (38.5m) NAIA, offering not only a relaxing luxury yacht charter experience but one for thrill-seekers alike. The Sanlorenzo motor yacht has been turning heads with its refreshed identity thanks to the 2024 refit and adventure-ready personality for those wanting to combine elegance, cutting-edge amenities, and endless opportunities for exploration.

We caught up with the owner to explore how the refit redefined NAIA’s timeless elegance and unique features for a one-ofa-kind experience ideally suited for Greek yacht charters this summer.

Award-Winning Legacy

Initially launched in 2009, the yacht made a big splash in the yachting industry. The Francesco Paszkowski design earned immediate recognition, claiming both the World Superyacht Award for best semidisplacement motor yacht and the best exterior styling.

“She doesn’t look her age, even before the refit,” notes NAIA’s owner, a seasoned charterer and passionate water enthusiast. “If you look at similar yachts from the same era, she has one of the most successful timeless designs.”

Excellence Refreshed

With a strong connection to and love for the ocean, the owner of NAIA wanted to experience something they had never before had on a previous yacht when chartering. This goal led to the comprehensive refit project, guided by the owner’s vision. “As the yacht was originally very minimal, it gave us a huge opportunity to make lots of changes without completely starting from scratch.”

The project brought together an exceptional team. Under the guidance of Sanlorenzo’s style director, Sergio Buttiglierie, and Milanese Garibaldi Architect, NAIA’s interior spaces were reimagined alongside Athens-based architect Aggeliki Makri from AM Design Concept. On the exterior, the teak decking

was refreshed, and Seara Maritime performed a complete repaint of the hull and superstructure while taking additional responsibility for various technical upgrades.

Today, NAIA showcases a blend of materials and woods, with neutral tones accented by bold burgundy touches and iconic furniture. Premium finishings from Paola Lenti, Roda, and Deddon create inviting spaces throughout to maximize space and usability. The result? A stylish and elegant design while maintaining a comfortable and relaxed ambiance.

Unmatched Watersport Haven

The adventure truly awaits guests onboard NAIA, with her extensive portfolio of brand-new toys setting her apart from the rest. “NAIA isn’t for show,” emphasizes her owner. “Every detail, from the ambiance to the amenities and toys, reflects what we love about life on the water. NAIA is a yacht where you can eat and drink fantastically, visit remote locations, and spend every moment doing what you love on the water - be it deep sea fishing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, or e-foiling.”

“I started surfing when I was 10 years old, I love kitesurfing, and I am a master scuba diver, while my wife loves fishing and competitive sailing, we always take vacations centered around the water.”

Thanks to the family’s strong passion for watersports, guests can enjoy a range of playtime from Jet Skis, wake surfing and boarding, Fliteboards, wing foils, Seabobs, and waterskiing to scuba diving and paddleboarding. Facilitating the fun and action is a Williams tender and the newly added Axopar 37 chase boat.

Alongside her toy list, the combination of NAIA’s strategic position in the Greek islands means guests are never limited by weather or location. “With all the toys we have, you can do anything you want at any location and at any point in time; this was one of my main aims: never to be hindered by weather or location.” When the Greek Meltemi winds blow, guests can experience some of the Mediterranean’s best kitesurfing conditions. During calmer days, the clear Greek waters become perfect for the likes of scuba diving and wake surfing.

With so many watersports on offer, safety and instruction are front and center

onboard, with the professional crew fully versed in watersport instruction. “We want people to not only enjoy the watersports we have onboard but learn new things and be safe doing so.” For 2025, NAIA will be offering specialized kitesurfing and wind foiling trips with guests led by the most experienced trainers.

Modern Connectivity

Beyond adventure, NAIA is packed full of modern conveniences. During the refit project, the yacht’s technology was completely modernized and upgraded, featuring one of the most advanced WiFi networks available. “We invested heavily in technology to ensure our guests can seamlessly blend work and pleasure. Whether in a marina or anchored off a remote island, you will have the connectivity of a modern office.”

From work to pleasure, NAIA has a full catalog of streaming services onboard, complemented by entertainment sound systems. The systems were upgraded with new equipment, mirror TVs, and speakers, all supported by high-speed Stalink connectivity. Each cabin and social space has been carefully designed to ensure functionality and comfort.

“The beauty of a yacht is the opportunity of doing something different, every day, or even every hour, so we wanted to combine a yacht not only full of watersports and toys but also with other pleasures such as relaxing, sunbathing, listening to music, drinking and eating, to easily accessing the sights ashore.”

A New Standard

Accommodating 10 guests in five luxurious cabins, NAIA offers multiple spaces not only for entertainment but also for the ultimate relaxation. Alongside style, comfort has been considered throughout, from the furniture to layouts, such as the small library included in the master cabin. “We must have tested out around 300 sofas to find the perfect ones not only for the yacht to have a visually specific look

but also for guests to relax fully; we want people to truly feel at home.”

Furthermore, the yacht’s design blurs the line between indoor and outdoor living, with fold-down balconies, bow area seating, and alfresco dining opportunities, creating a seamless connection with the ocean in complete comfort. “We want our guests who are investing in NAIA to experience exactly what we would want personally,” concludes the owner. “As the Greek saying goes, we are not putting water into our wine; we want our guests to have the best time onboard.”

Some exciting developments this year are adding to the NAIA experience, from professional and dedicated watersportfocused charters to culinary experiences thanks to the accomplished onboard chef.

A week onboard NAIA effortlessly combines luxury, comforts, and active lifestyle amenities. With a fresh look and upgraded features, NAIA is a highly desirable charter option for those seeking to make unforgettable yachting memories in Greece. GLOBAL MARKET TRENDS: NAVIGATING THE FUTURE OF BUSINESS IN 2025

As we embark on 2025, the global market is experiencing a dynamic transformation. Shaped by emerging technologies, shifting consumer behaviour, and geopolitical challenges, the trends driving the global economy are evolving at a rapid pace. Understanding these trends is crucial for businesses, investors, and policymakers as they navigate an increasingly interconnected and volatile world. From sustainability to technological innovation and evolving consumer preferences, these market trends are set to shape the landscape of global business in the years to come.

One of the most significant global market trends in 2025 is the increasing demand for sustainability. Consumers, governments, and businesses are all placing a greater emphasis on environmental responsibility, pushing companies to integrate sustainability into their core operations. This shift is not merely driven by regulatory pressure but also by growing consumer awareness and demand for environmentally friendly products and services.

The rise of the green economy is evident across multiple sectors. Renewable energy, electric vehicles, and eco-friendly consumer goods are all experiencing significant growth. Businesses are adopting circular economy models, where resources are reused and waste is minimised, and are making efforts to reduce their carbon footprints. Investors are also increasingly favouring sustainable investments, with a surge in green bonds and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) funds.

For companies, sustainability is no longer a niche concern but a mainstream business strategy. Organisations are realising that prioritising sustainability not only meets the growing expectations of consumers but also leads to long-term cost savings, brand loyalty, and a competitive edge in a market where environmental issues are becoming central to consumer purchasing decisions.

1. The Rise of Sustainable Business Practices

2. The Accelerating Digital Transformation

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated digital transformation across industries, and this trend is set to continue in 2025. Technology has become indispensable in almost every aspect of business, from operations and customer engagement to product development and supply chain management. With advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing, businesses are leveraging digital tools to enhance efficiency, automate processes, and improve customer experiences.

AI and machine learning, in particular, are playing an increasingly significant

role in driving innovation. Businesses are using AI for predictive analytics, personalisation, and customer service automation. Chatbots, virtual assistants, and AI-powered recommendation engines are becoming commonplace across industries, transforming how businesses interact with customers and analyse market trends.

Digitalisation is also reshaping the workforce. Remote work and hybrid work models, accelerated by the pandemic, are becoming a permanent feature for many organisations. Companies are investing in cloudbased collaboration tools, cybersecurity solutions, and digital upskilling initiatives to ensure their employees are equipped to thrive in the digital economy.

3. The Growth of E-commerce and Direct-to-Consumer Models

E-commerce continues to dominate global retail, with online sales expected to account for a larger share of the total retail market in 2025. This trend is being driven by the continued shift in consumer preferences towards convenience, fast delivery, and a wider selection of products. As more consumers shop online, businesses are investing in e-commerce platforms, digital marketing, and logistics infrastructure to meet the growing demand for seamless online shopping experiences.

The rise of direct-to-consumer (DTC) models is another key market trend. DTC companies bypass traditional retail

GLOBAL TRENDS NEWS

channels and sell directly to customers through their websites or mobile apps. This model allows businesses to maintain greater control over their brand, customer data, and pricing strategies, while also improving profit margins by cutting out intermediaries.

As more businesses shift to DTC, the importance of customer experience becomes paramount. Companies are leveraging data analytics, personalised marketing, and customer feedback loops to build stronger relationships with their customers and foster brand loyalty. Social media platforms, especially Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, have become vital tools for marketing and customer engagement, with influencers playing a central role in driving product awareness and sales.

4. The Emergence of Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain Technology

Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology are gaining increasing attention as potential disruptors in the global financial system. In 2025, cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and newer altcoins continue to be a major point of focus for investors, governments, and businesses alike.

Blockchain technology, the underlying infrastructure behind cryptocurrencies, is being explored for its potential to revolutionise various industries, from finance and supply chain management to healthcare and entertainment. Blockchain’s ability to offer secure, transparent, and decentralised solutions is driving interest in its applications beyond digital currencies. In finance, blockchain is being used for faster, more secure transactions, smart contracts, and cross-border payments, offering significant cost-saving opportunities for businesses and financial institutions.

Governments are also exploring the regulatory landscape surrounding cryptocurrencies, with some nations leading the way in adopting digital currencies, while others are cautious or outright prohibitive. The regulatory environment surrounding digital assets will be critical in determining the future of this space, particularly as central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) become more prevalent.

Geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions have been recurring themes in recent years, and 2025 is no exception. Trade conflicts, geopolitical instability, and the shifting global balance of power are influencing market trends and creating uncertainty for businesses.

The ongoing trade tensions between major economies such as the United States and China, along with regional conflicts and the evolving relationship between the EU and the UK postBrexit, are all factors that could disrupt global trade and supply chains. These disruptions, coupled with the ongoing effects of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, have prompted many businesses to reconsider their supply chain strategies.

In response to these challenges, companies are diversifying their supply chains, investing in local production and nearshoring, and increasing their reliance on technology to optimise logistics and mitigate risks. The focus on supply chain resilience and agility is becoming more pronounced, with businesses seeking to build greater flexibility and responsiveness into their operations to cope with unforeseen disruptions.

5. Geopolitical Shifts and Supply Chain Resilience

GLOBAL TRENDS NEWS

6. The Rise of Health and Wellness

The global focus on health and wellness has accelerated in recent years, and in 2025, it remains one of the most prominent market trends. Consumers are increasingly prioritising their physical and mental health, leading to growth in industries such as fitness, nutrition, mental health services, and wellness technology.

Wearable health tech, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, continues to gain popularity, providing consumers with tools to monitor their health and make informed decisions about their well-being. Mental health awareness is also on the rise, with businesses investing in employee well-being programs and offering mental health resources to support a healthier workforce.

The COVID-19 pandemic, with its emphasis on personal health and safety, has also led to a surge in demand for healthcare products and services. Telemedicine, for example, is becoming more widely accepted as a convenient and efficient way to access healthcare, reducing the need for in-person visits and expanding access to medical professionals.

As we move through 2025, these global market trends are reshaping industries and presenting new opportunities and challenges for businesses across the world. From sustainability and digital transformation to e-commerce, cryptocurrencies, and health and wellness, the key to success will lie in businesses’ ability to adapt quickly and strategically to these changes. Those who can innovate, respond to consumer demands, and navigate the complexities of the global marketplace will be the leaders of tomorrow. In a world characterised by rapid change, the ability to stay ahead of the curve is more important than ever.

THE AI REVOLUTION: TRANSFORMING INDUSTRIES AND SHAPING THE FUTURE

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has long been a concept of science fiction, but today, it stands at the forefront of technological innovation, shaping industries and redefining how we live and work. With rapid advancements and widespread adoption, the AI revolution is not a distant dream; it is here, and it is transforming every aspect of our daily lives. From automation to data analysis, AI’s impact is undeniable, and as we look to the future, it promises to become an even more integral part of the global landscape.

The Rise of Artificial Intelligence

AI is an umbrella term for a range of technologies that enable machines to perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making. Over the past decade, AI has made enormous strides, thanks to breakthroughs in machine learning, natural language processing, and neural networks.

These advancements have led to the development of systems that can understand and generate human

language (such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT), identify patterns in vast amounts of data, make predictions, and even assist in creative processes. The ability for machines to "learn" from experience and improve over time has enabled AI to tackle increasingly complex tasks across a variety of fields.

Industry Transformation: AI in the Workforce

AI’s impact on the workforce has been profound. Automation has already disrupted sectors like manufacturing, logistics, and customer service, where

AI-driven machines can perform repetitive tasks with greater efficiency and accuracy than humans. In industries like finance, AI is being used for algorithmic trading, fraud detection, and risk assessment, allowing businesses to operate more swiftly and securely.

Healthcare is another sector witnessing significant change. AI tools are helping doctors with everything from diagnosing diseases to predicting patient outcomes and personalising treatment plans. Machine learning algorithms can analyse medical images

and data faster and more accurately than traditional methods, providing doctors with deeper insights and enhancing patient care. AI-driven robots are also beginning to play a larger role in surgery, where precision is critical.

While the automation of certain tasks threatens to displace some jobs, AI is also creating new roles and opportunities. Professionals with expertise in AI development, data science, and machine learning are in high demand, and industries are investing heavily in upskilling their workforces to keep pace with technological advancements. Rather than eliminating jobs, AI is reshaping

the workforce, demanding a shift in skills and expertise.

The

Business World: Innovation Through AI

In the business world, AI is being leveraged to drive innovation and improve decision-making. Companies are using AI to optimise operations, enhance customer experiences, and develop new products and services. AI-powered tools such as chatbots, recommendation systems, and predictive analytics have become indispensable to businesses looking to stay competitive in a fast-evolving marketplace.

Retailers are using AI to personalise customer experiences by analysing purchase behaviour and recommending products tailored to individual preferences. This level of personalisation, powered by AI’s ability to process vast amounts of data in real-time, is helping businesses foster deeper connections with customers and improve sales outcomes.

In marketing, AI has enabled the automation of campaigns, content creation, and even customer sentiment analysis. AI can identify trends, gauge consumer behaviour, and optimise ad targeting with unparalleled precision, allowing businesses to deliver the right

message to the right audience at the right time.

The Ethical and Societal Implications of AI

While the benefits of AI are clear, there are also significant ethical and societal considerations that need to be addressed. The rise of AI presents questions around data privacy, algorithmic bias, job displacement, and the control and regulation of AI technologies. As AI systems become more sophisticated, they could potentially make decisions that affect individuals’ lives without human intervention. This has led to concerns

about the accountability of AI systems, especially when they make mistakes or perpetuate existing biases present in the data they are trained on.

For example, AI systems used in hiring processes have been found to exhibit gender or racial biases, highlighting the need for better training data and more transparent algorithms. Additionally, there is growing concern about the concentration of AI power in the hands of a few large corporations and governments, with many arguing for stronger regulations to ensure that AI technologies are developed and deployed responsibly.

The potential for AI to impact privacy is another challenge. With the proliferation of AI-driven surveillance systems, facial recognition technology, and data-driven personalisation, there are legitimate concerns about the erosion of personal privacy. Striking the right balance between innovation and safeguarding individual rights is a critical issue that will require careful thought and regulation.

The Future of AI: What Lies Ahead

Looking ahead, the potential for AI seems limitless. As technology continues to evolve, we are likely to see even more profound changes in how we interact with machines and how AI integrates into our everyday lives. In the coming years, AI will continue to advance in areas such as natural language processing, where machines will become more adept at understanding context, emotion, and human nuances in communication.

AI-driven healthcare could also see further advancements, with more personalised treatment options and predictive models that detect diseases before symptoms even appear. Selfdriving vehicles and autonomous drones are expected to become mainstream, transforming industries like transportation and logistics.

The integration of AI with other emerging technologies, such as quantum computing, will only accelerate progress, enabling AI systems to tackle more complex problems and make decisions in ways we cannot yet imagine.

However, with this progress comes the responsibility to ensure that AI is developed in an ethical, transparent, and equitable manner. Policymakers, businesses, and tech leaders will need to collaborate to create frameworks that govern AI’s use and ensure that it benefits society as a whole.

The AI revolution is reshaping the world in profound ways, from the automation of routine tasks to the creation of innovative new products and services. As AI continues to evolve, it holds the potential to revolutionise virtually every industry, while also presenting challenges that require thoughtful consideration. The future of AI will be defined not only by technological advances but also by the ethical and societal choices we make today. As we embrace this new era, the decisions we make will determine how AI shapes the future of work, society, and the world at large.

LIVERPOOL FC’S

THE RED WAY:

LEADING

THE CHARGE FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB

Liverpool Football Club is renowned for its illustrious history, legendary players, and devoted fanbase. However, beyond the pitch, the club is forging a new legacy—one rooted in sustainability, diversity, and community impact.

At the heart of this endeavour is The Red Way, Liverpool FC’s pledge to create a better future for its people, planet, and communities. To explore this transformative programme in greater depth, we spoke with Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, who shared the pillars, successes, and aspirations of The Red Way.

The Red Way: Three Pillars of Impact

“The driving force of The Red Way is our commitment to building a better future for our people, our planet, and our community,” explains Rishi. This vision is underpinned by three fundamental pillars:

People: Diversity and inclusion are integral to the club’s ethos, as is fostering a workplace culture of belonging, by creating an environment where everyone feels valued. “It’s about more than just recruitment,” Rishi emphasises. “It’s about embedding diversity and inclusion into every aspect of our operations.”

Planet: Sustainability is a central focus, with ambitious goals such as halving its operational emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2040. The club’s initiatives include waste reduction, renewable energy programmes, and attaining ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management.

Community: Liverpool FC’s dedication to its local and global communities remains steadfast. The LFC Foundation aims to engage with 500,000 young people by 2030, delivering programmes that extend beyond football to address education, health, and wellbeing. “Sixty per cent of the Foundation’s work is non-footballrelated,” Rishi highlights, stressing its emphasis on life skills and mental health.

Local Roots, Global Reach

Despite its global presence, Liverpool FC’s bond with its local community remains a priority. “Whatever we do, it’s crucial to engage with our local community,” Rishi says. The Foundation’s work spans the Liverpool City Region and reaches internationally, with initiatives in Asia, New York, and Africa. Through programmes like Right to Play and educational outreach in 9,200 schools, the club is making a far-reaching impact.

Success stories are abundant, ranging from volunteers who have become permanent staff members to families overcoming challenges like food poverty. “We’re not just about one-off engagements,” Rishi notes. “We’re about building relationships and providing longterm support.”

A Transparent Approach to Sustainability

Liverpool FC’s sustainability journey through The Red Way gained momentum in 2021. “We’ve always done this work,” Rishi explains, “but we’d never really given it an identity.” By consolidating and formalising its efforts, the club has established ambitious goals and adopted a transparent approach.

“Rather than launching a programme and revealing results years later, we’ve flipped the script,” Rishi shares. “We’re open about our challenges and invite collaboration to tackle them.” This transparency has reinforced the club’s leadership in sustainability, enabling collaboration with its partners such as Standard Chartered and AXA, who provide expertise to enhance the club’s initiatives.

Diversity and Inclusion: A Holistic Approach

Through The Red Way, Liverpool FC seeks to reflect the diversity of its community. “We’ve focused on four or five underrepresented areas to achieve measurable progress,” Rishi says. Campaigns for Black History Month, International Day of Disabilities, and International Women’s Day are not just symbolic gestures but are integrated into recruitment and retention strategies.

“It’s about bringing together conversations around the planet and people,” Rishi explains. “These challenges require diverse perspectives, and we’re committed to fostering that diversity.”

Collaboration for Global Impact

Collaboration is at the core of The Red Way’s success. Liverpool FC works closely with the Premier League and other clubs to exchange best practices, while global partnerships with organisations like the United Nations amplify its influence. From combating hate speech to aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the club leverages its platform to drive meaningful change.

The Orchard
Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool FC

The club also participates in initiatives like GOAL (Green Operations and Advanced Leadership), a rigorous benchmarking programme that encourages organisations to excel in sustainability. “It’s about constantly striving to improve,” Rishi adds.

The Human Element: Stories of Success

Beyond ambitious targets and global collaborations, The Red Way is ultimately about people. One of the programme’s proudest achievements is its emphasis on long-term relationships. From children benefiting from Foundation programmes to older adults finding purpose through walking football, the impact is deeply personal.

“We’ve seen individuals progress from volunteers to full-time employees, building their careers within the Foundation,” Rishi shares. “It’s a testament to the power of community and the support we offer.”

The focus on non-football initiatives, such as mental health support and women’s health programmes, highlights the Foundation’s wide-reaching impact. These efforts aim not only to achieve numerical success but to create lasting, meaningful change.

The Red Way supports 14 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

LIVERPOOL FC

Pioneering Sustainability in Sport

Sports organisations worldwide are increasingly prioritising sustainability, but Liverpool FC stands out for its proactive and transparent approach. By openly sharing its challenges and progress, the club has cemented its reputation as a leader in the field.

“We’re not afraid to admit that we don’t have all the answers,” Rishi says. “Collaboration is key, whether with commercial partners, local communities, or global organisations.”

This openness has led to innovative partnerships, such as collaborating with AXA’s sustainability team to refine strategies and leveraging Standard Chartered’s global network. The club’s efforts have even garnered recognition from the United Nations, reflecting its alignment with multiple Sustainable Development Goals.

Challenges and Opportunities

While The Red Way has achieved notable milestones, challenges remain. Addressing global issues like climate change and social inequality demands ongoing effort and adaptation. For Liverpool FC, this means setting realistic yet ambitious goals and continuously pushing boundaries.

“We’re always looking ahead,” Rishi says. “Once we achieve one goal, we’re already focusing on the next challenge.”

The club’s commitment to diversity also extends to its decision-making processes, ensuring diverse perspectives are included at every level to address complex challenges effectively.

The Future of The Red Way

As The Red Way evolves, Liverpool FC’s vision remains clear: to inspire and lead by example. The programme’s longterm objectives include meeting its 2030 and 2040 sustainability targets and maintaining its leadership role within the sports industry.

“We want to be known not just as a football club but as a force for good,” Rishi concludes. “The Red Way is about striving for greatness—on and off the pitch.”

A Call to Action

Liverpool FC’s The Red Way is more than an internal initiative—it’s a call to action for the entire sports industry. By sharing its journey, challenges, and successes, the club aims to inspire others to take bold steps towards sustainability and inclusivity.

Whether through local community programmes or global partnerships, The Red Way exemplifies the power of sport to drive meaningful change. As Liverpool FC continues to set new benchmarks, one thing is clear: The Red Way is paving the path to a brighter, more sustainable future.

COPPER S.A.

of not just extracting resources but also uplifting the communities it operates in.

By actively partnering with local subcontractors, Kamoa Copper is demonstrating how international mining companies can engage with local businesses to promote sustainable development. This collaboration is crucial in a region where mining has historically been associated with exploitation and minimal local benefit.

A Powerhouse in Operations

The Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex, Kamoa Copper's main site, has quickly established itself as a significant player in the global copper market. With state of the art facilities and rich mineral resources, the complex produced an impressive 393,551 tonnes of copper concentrate in 2023 alone. The company is on track to become one of the largest copper producers globally, with aspirations to reach an annual production rate of 800,000 tonnes in the near future.

Kamoa Copper operates as a partnership that includes Ivanhoe Mines (39.6%), Zijin Mining Group (39.6%), Crystal River Global Limited (0.8%), and the Government of the DRC (20%). Located in the Central African Copperbelt, the DRC is renowned for its abundant copper and cobalt deposits, making it a critical player in the mining industry.

From its inception, Kamoa Copper has prioritised efficiency and innovation. In May 2024, the company proudly announced the completion of the Phase 3 concentrator at the KamoaKakula Copper Complex, achieving this milestone ahead of schedule and on budget. This advancement significantly increases the company's annual copper production capacity. Robert Friedland, Founder and Executive Co-Chairman of Ivanhoe Mines, remarked, “We are exploring ways to boost our copper production towards our next goal of 800,000 tonnes per year. This will bring significant value to our stakeholders and shareholders.”

Moreover, Kamoa Copper places a high priority on safety. Throughout the construction of the Phase 3 concentrator, the company achieved an impressive safety record, completing 10 million work hours without a single injury. Such a focus on safety not only enhances the well-being of the workforce but also contributes to the company’s long-term success and reputation in the industry.

Putting Sustainability First

At the heart of Kamoa Copper’s operations lies a commitment to sustainability. The company recognises the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship and social responsibility. It actively seeks to minimise its carbon footprint while utilising natural resources judiciously.

Ben Munanga explained, “Sustainability is central to everything we do. We are dedicated to ensuring our operations contribute positively to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in areas such as clean water, responsible consumption, and climate action.” This holistic approach underscores Kamoa Copper's dedication to making a positive impact beyond its mining activities.

A crucial element of Kamoa Copper’s sustainability strategy is its innovative waste management practices. The company employs advanced techniques to reduce the environmental impact of mining by pumping waste back underground to support mining structures, thereby decreasing surface storage needs. Additionally, Kamoa

ASTONISH A BRAND BUILT ON INNOVATION, SUSTAINABILITY, AND

TRUST

When it comes to household cleaning, innovation and sustainability are becoming increasingly crucial. Astonish has emerged as a beloved brand that combines both elements with quality and affordability. Founded in the early 1980s, Astonish’s journey from a small family business to an internationally recognised brand is a testament to its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of consumers. We sat down with Managing Director Howard Moss to explore the company’s rich history, core values, innovative product range, and how Astonish has navigated industry changes while remaining focused on sustainability.

The Origins of Astonish

Astonish was formed in the early 1980s as part of a vision laid out by the Moss family. Howard Moss, the current managing director, shared that the company started as a second-generation family business. “It was originally started by my father in the early ’80s under a separate brand. He was purchasing cleaning products and demonstrating them before the Astonish brand was formally established in the mid80s,” Howard explained.

From these humble beginnings, Astonish quickly made their mark in the competitive cleaning products market.

“Over the years, we’ve expanded to offer over 50 products across home cleaning, laundry, stain removal, and personal care hygiene,” Howard shared.

The company's growth was fuelled by its ability to adapt to changing consumer habits. As supermarket chains grew in prominence, Astonish was well-positioned to take advantage of retail spaces, ensuring its products were available across major UK retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Aldi.

Core Values: Innovation, Quality, and Sustainability

Astonish’s success is driven by its steadfast dedication to three key values: innovation, quality, and sustainability.

Innovation: Pioneering Cleaning Solutions

Astonish’s focus on continuous innovation has allowed the company to remain a key player in the competitive cleaning

industry. From the very start, the brand was determined to offer something new and exciting to consumers. For instance, the company was one of the first to introduce a powerful oven cleaner that revolutionised the way consumers tackled tough grease and grime.

A notable milestone in Astonish's growth occurred during the UK banking crisis of 2009. The financial downturn caused many businesses to struggle, but Astonish capitalised on the changing behaviour of consumers. “When the recession hit, shoppers began to look for more affordable options, and retailers like Aldi, Lidl, and Poundland grew in prominence,” Howard noted. Astonish’s positioning as a value-driven, quality brand made it an ideal choice for these new shopping habits and more shoppers opted for their affordable yet reliable products.

ASTONISH

undergone a rebranding, which included a fresh logo and packaging. “We invested around half a million pounds to rebrand Astonish and position it as a high-quality yet affordable choice for shoppers,” Howard explained. The new design featured a distinctive "peak" above the brand name, symbolising the pinnacle of cleaning performance.

Quality: A Foundation of Trust

Quality has always been a hallmark of Astonish products. As Howard explained, “Our products are rigorously tested to ensure that they deliver on their promise to consumers. Whether it’s a multi-surface cleaner or a bathroom solution, the brand is built on providing effective and safe products at affordable prices.” This focus on quality has helped Astonish build longterm trust with consumers.

“We pride ourselves on being able to offer versatile cleaning solutions that work across a variety of surfaces,” Howard continued. Many of Astonish’s products are designed to be multipurpose, allowing consumers to tackle a range of cleaning tasks with a single bottle. This versatility, combined with their affordability, has made Astonish a go-to brand for households seeking convenience and value.

Sustainability: Reducing Environmental Impact

Sustainability is another cornerstone of Astonish’s success. As consumer awareness of environmental issues has risen, Astonish has led the charge in producing products that are not only effective but also environmentally responsible. The company was also the first, pioneering UK manufactured household cleaning brand that is approved by Cruelty-Free International and The Vegan Society. “At Astonish, we strive to make cleaning products that have the least environmental impact possible,” said Howard.

The company has worked hard to reduce plastic usage in its packaging, aiming for a minimum of 30% recycled content in all packaging. Furthermore, the company is committed to producing fully recyclable containers and exploring alternatives to plastic packaging where feasible. “While we still use plastic, we focus on ensuring that it is recyclable and made from recycled content whenever possible” “We’ve recently launched products in metal containers, which offer a more eco friendly option compared to plastic. It’s all part of our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint.” Howard explained.

The company’s commitment to sustainability also extends to the ingredients used in its products. Many of Astonish's formulas are biodegradable and

free from harmful chemicals, ensuring that they are safe for both consumers and the environment. “We were one of the first companies to offer biodegradable products, and it’s something we’ve been committed to for over 20 years,” Howard added. Astonish’s plant-based ingredients and cruelty-free certifications further solidify the brand’s position as an environmentally conscious company.

Key Milestones in Astonish’s Growth

The company's growth over the past several decades can be attributed to several key moments that propelled the brand forward, including strategic investments in manufacturing, product innovation, and strong leadership.

Investment in Manufacturing

In 2010, Astonish made a significant investment in expanding its manufacturing capabilities, moving to a larger site just three miles from its previous location. “This investment allowed us to ramp up production and meet the increasing demand from both UK and international retailers,” Howard noted. In 2022, Astonish further expanded its operations with a state-of-the-art manufacturing site in Bradford, West Yorkshire, marking a new chapter for the company.

The investment in infrastructure proved pivotal when the global COVID-19 pandemic hit. As the demand for cleaning and hygiene products surged during the early months of the crisis, Astonish was

well-positioned to increase production and meet the demand. “When COVID-19 hit, we were able to maximise our output. And importantly, we didn’t exploit the situation by raising prices,” Howard shared. Unlike some competitors who increased prices during the pandemic, Astonish stayed true to its core values of offering high-quality products at the best value.

International Expansion

While the UK remains the company’s primary market, Astonish has made significant strides in global markets. The company exports to approximately 20 countries, with key markets in the Middle East and Asia. “We're very proud of the fact that we are manufacturing and producing products here in the UK and exporting them worldwide,” Howard said.

International expansion has been driven by the company’s commitment to quality, affordability, and sustainability. “Markets like the Middle East have stringent regulations on animal testing, which has made our cruelty-free certification even more valuable,” Howard explained. Astonish’s vegan and cruelty-free credentials have helped the brand gain a loyal customer base in these regions.

Sustainability in Practice

Astonish has always prioritised sustainability, making it a core part of its business strategy. From cruelty-free practices to reducing plastic waste, the company is constantly looking for ways to improve its environmental impact.

Cruelty-Free and Vegan Certifications

Astonish has been a pioneer in crueltyfree cleaning products. The company was one of the first cleaning brands in the UK to join the International CrueltyFree Association, proudly displaying the "Leaping Bunny" symbol on its products. “For over 20 years, we’ve been committed to ensuring that none of our products are tested on animals. This includes every single raw material supplier, who must sign a declaration ensuring their materials are cruelty-free as well,” Howard explained.

Looking to the Future

As Astonish looks ahead, the focus remains on expanding its product range, improving sustainability efforts, and further growing its global presence. The company is continuously researching new ways to innovate while maintaining its ethical and environmental commitments.

“We’re always looking for ways to improve our products and reduce our environmental impact,” Howard said. “As consumer expectations evolve, we remain committed to offering the best-in-class products that not only meet performance standards but also uphold sustainability and ethical practices.”

Astonish’s journey from a small family-run business to an internationally recognised cleaning brand highlights the power of innovation, quality, and sustainability in creating a trusted brand that resonates with consumers. By focusing on delivering high-performance products that are both environmentally friendly and ethically produced, Astonish has become a household name that is synonymous with value, trust, and responsibility. With continued investments in sustainability and global expansion, the brand is wellpositioned to maintain its leadership role in the cleaning industry and further strengthen its reputation for innovation and ethical practices.

TANMIAH FOOD COMPANY: STRENGTHENING FOOD SECURITY AND SUSTAINABILITY IN 2025

TANMIAH

PROJECT

DIRECTED BY: JAMIE WAITE

PROJECT WRITTEN BY: ELOISE PERRY

Tanmiah Food Company, a leading pillar of the Middle East’s food industry, continues to evolve and strengthen its position as a key player in the region. Since its establishment in 1962, Tanmiah has become one of the most recognisable names in the Middle East’s poultry and meat production sector. As we move into 2025, Tanmiah is not only expanding its range of products but also making progress in areas like sustainability, local food security, and regional growth, all while meeting the increasing demand for halal food.

A Leader in Poultry and Meat Production

Tanmiah has long been well known for their high-quality, fresh, and processed poultry products. Their operations span a fully integrated business model, covering everything from farming to the final distribution of products. With 120 farms, six hatcheries, two feed mills, and four primary processing plants (slaughterhouses), Tanmiah continues to be a key supplier of poultry, meat

products, and animal health goods across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region, including the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Kuwait.

One of the company's most significant developments over the last few years has been the company’s consistent expansion of its distribution network. In addition to its traditional supply chains through wholesalers, retailers, and food service outlets, Tanmiah has also made a name for itself in the online space. Its e-commerce platform has allowed customers to conveniently purchase its range of products, ensuring the company stays in touch with the digital age.

As of September 2023, Tanmiah continues to invest in the Kingdom’s food security strategy by operating an ever-expanding array of farming and production facilities. Their strategic goal to boost local poultry production aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to reduce the Kingdom's reliance on imported food and increase its food selfsufficiency rate to 80% by 2025.

The Success of Popeyes: A Key Driver of Growth

In addition to its robust poultry operations, Tanmiah has also made waves in the fast food sector. Tanmiah’s subsidiary, Tanmiah Restaurants for Fast Food Company, has experienced rapid success with the Popeyes brand in the region. Popeyes, one of the world’s largest chicken-based fast food chains, now has 36 outlets across Saudi Arabia as of late 2023, with the company planning significant expansion in other Gulf markets.

In November 2023, Tanmiah announced an exclusive development agreement with PLK Europe GmbH to establish Popeyes outlets in Kuwait and Bahrain. This development is part of Tanmiah's broader strategy to diversify its offerings and cater to the growing demand for fast food in the region. Given Popeyes’ international success, this partnership offers Tanmiah an exciting opportunity to capitalise on the fast food industry's lucrative growth while contributing to the Kingdom’s economic and employment growth.

Key Partnerships and Joint Ventures

Tanmiah continues to recognise the importance of strategic partnerships in its long-term growth. In 2023, Tanmiah entered into a significant joint venture with MHP, one of Europe’s leading poultry producers. This collaboration, through Tanmiah’s wholly owned subsidiary, Desert Hills for Veterinary Services, is focused on developing and operating poultry breeding facilities in Saudi Arabia.

A key component of this venture is the planned establishment of a greenfield hatchery, which will hatch around 175 million eggs annually. The joint venture will also invest in new feed milling facilities aimed at producing 137,000 tonnes of feed per year, an investment backed by the Saudi Arabia Agriculture Development Fund. This collaboration is expected to contribute to Tanmiah’s mission of increasing local poultry production and contributing to the Kingdom’s food security.

Roxell: A 360° approach to durable and efficient farming

Roxell is a leader in agricultural technology, offering a comprehensive range of innovative and durable solutions for poultry farming. Our 360° approach focuses on providing integrated systems that enhance farm efficiency while prioritizing animal welfare. From feeding, drinking and nesting systems to heating, ventilation and controllers, Roxell provides everything needed for a well-managed, durable farm.

What sets Roxell apart is our ability to integrate various technologies into seamless, high-performance systems. Our products work together to ensure optimal operation across all aspects of farm management. Whether it’s feeding animals, providing clean drinking water, maintaining ideal temperatures, or optimizing airflow, Roxell’s solutions cover every essential element of farm operations.

Each of these elements plays a crucial role in creating a farming environment where both efficiency and animal welfare thrive, and our products are designed to address these needs comprehensively.

Fortena®: innovation in feeding

The Fortena chain feeding system exemplifies our 360° approach. Designed for broiler breeders, Fortena is a patented system that accelerates feed intake and reduces feed waste. Its unique chain design with large open links minimizes friction, allowing the feed to stay intact and enabling hens to consume it more easily and rapidly.

The system also offers flexibility with six adjustable volume settings, giving farmers the freedom to tailor their feeding schedules. Whether feeding in a single portion or spreading it throughout the day, Fortena ensures efficient and consistent feed distribution, maximizing the productivity of every animal.

iQon™: Customizable feed control for optimized performance

iQon is Roxell’s advanced feed controller, fully customizable to your farm’s specific needs. It centralizes the feeding process, allowing precise control over each animal group, whether managing an entire site or individual houses.

With tailored feed curves, iQon adjusts feed composition and quantity while monitoring water consumption and calculating the water/ feed ratio for optimal flock health. Ideal for all poultry types, iQon offers flexibility for broilers, breeders, layers, turkeys, and ducks.

The 12-inch touchscreen ensures easy management, and with remote connectivity, farm managers can access the system via computer, smartphone, or tablet, making real-time adjustments from anywhere.

Oxsano™ tunnel fans: Optimizing ventilation

The Oxsano tunnel fan is another key component of Roxell’s integrated solutions. It ensures proper airflow, which is crucial for maintaining animal comfort through the wind-chill effect. The fan features a direct-drive motor that reduces energy consumption while boosting performance. The variable speed settings adjust the fan's output according to the specific ventilation needs, resulting in energy savings and lower operational costs.

Oxsano fans are made from corrosion-resistant materials, ensuring durability in all conditions. With a sleek design and minimal maintenance requirements, they provide powerful ventilation while remaining quiet and efficient.

Roxell’s commitment to performance

At Roxell, we are committed to providing farmers with innovative, surable, and high-Performance solutions that optimize efficiency, animal welfare, and durability. Our 360° approach ensures that every product, whether for feeding, drinking, or ventilation, works seamlessly together to provide a complete solution for modern farming.

With Roxell, farmers can rely on integrated solutions that meet their needs today and set the standard for the future of farming.

In December 2024, Tanmiah Food Company announced a new agreement with Majmaah University, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to empowering communities and supporting talent development. This partnership reflects the company's dedication to enhancing education and workforce capabilities, in line with the objectives of Vision 2030. Through this collaboration, they aim to provide valuable training and internship opportunities for students, while nurturing local talent to help build a brighter future for the region.

Tanmiah has also made further strides in the region by entering into another joint venture with Vibra Agroindustrial S.A., a leading food producer in Brazil. This partnership aims to co-pack products for both Tanmiah and Vibra, initially in Saudi Arabia, with plans to expand into the wider MENA region. The venture will also explore the possibility of setting up a primary or further processing facility in Saudi Arabia, supporting Tanmiah’s growth and the nation’s food security strategies.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Tanmiah’s commitment to sustainability has never been more evident. The company has implemented several initiatives aimed at reducing its environmental impact, preserving natural resources, and improving agricultural practices. For example, Tanmiah’s commitment to planting a million trees across Saudi Arabia remains one of its flagship sustainability efforts. This initiative helps combat desertification while contributing to broader environmental goals in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

Tanmiah has also focused on responsible water management, with treated wastewater from its processing facilities being used in its farming operations. In addition, waste products from its poultry operations are converted into fertiliser, supporting sustainable agricultural practices across its farms.

The company’s environmental

stewardship is a key part of its broader sustainability framework, which also addresses animal welfare, sustainable sourcing, food safety, and community engagement. In terms of animal welfare, Tanmiah has invested in technology to ensure the humane treatment of animals across its supply chain. This commitment is fundamental, as the company works closely with suppliers to ensure all operations meet the highest standards of animal care.

Tanmiah Food Company recently also announced a significant milestone in their growth journey. Their subsidiary, Agricultural Development Company (ADC), recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Chengdu Design & Research Institute and Jiangsu Huali Co. Ltd. at the Saudi Agriculture Show in Riyadh. This exciting partnership aims to explore the development of advanced poultry farms in Saudi Arabia, incorporating the latest automation and Industry 4.0 technologies. The initiative aligns with Tanmiah's commitment to expansion in the Kingdom and supports their strategy to lead the way in innovative, efficient farming practices. Through this collaboration, they aim to deliver high-quality, healthy products to our consumers while advancing sustainability and food security for the future.

Innovation and Continued Expansion

Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, Tanmiah is poised to continue its focus on food security, sustainability, and innovation. As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia pushes forward with its Vision 2030 agenda, Tanmiah remains committed to contributing to the country’s economic growth by increasing local production, reducing dependence on imports, and ensuring a stable and sustainable food supply.

In terms of innovation, Tanmiah is exploring new technologies to further enhance its sustainability practices. This includes exploring ways to manage poultry litter more sustainably through methods like composting and pyrolysis

TANMIAH

treatment, which could help improve soil health and reduce the need for synthetic fertilisers.

Recently, they officially launched their Central Monitoring System (CMS) in a ceremony attended by the company’s Chairman, H.E. Amr Abdullah Al Dabbagh. The CMS is a key part of Tanmiah’s ongoing digital transformation strategy, aimed at integrating the latest technologies across its entire value chain to improve operational efficiency and optimise processes. As part of its innovation roadmap, Tanmiah plans to incorporate IoT, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Blockchain technology to enhance product traceability and ensure more sustainable operations. The CMS enables real-time access to operational data for the central team, allowing for smooth oversight and facilitating quicker, more informed decision-making.

Tanmiah’s ongoing expansion into international markets, particularly through its Popeyes franchise further shows the company’s ambition to be a global player in the food industry. As it strengthens its presence in the MENA region and beyond, Tanmiah remains dedicated to providing high-quality, halal food while upholding the principles of sustainability, ethical sourcing, and community engagement.

Tanmiah’s continued growth and commitment to its core values will undoubtedly make it a key player in the Middle East’s food industry for years to come. As the company moves forward, its sure to play a crucial role in shaping the future of food production, sustainability, and food security in the region.

GROUPE FILATEX: TRANSFORMING ENERGY AND OPPORTUNITY IN MADAGASCAR

The dreamy vanilla-producing, baobab tree-fringed island of Madagascar is home to lemurs and famously the subject of a blockbuster Hollywood cartoon franchise. But it is also characterised as one of the Least Developed Countries of the world and one of the most biodiverse. Which is where Groupe Filatex comes in with its mission to develop and grow the economy to the benefit of all stake holders. Including the lemurs.

Groupe Filatex is a family owned and operated group of companies which have been working in Madagascar since 1978. Hasnaine Yavarhoussen is the current Chief Executive Officer and joined the company, originally founded by his Father, in 2012 becoming CEO

in 2017. The very first enterprise Filatex undertook was the creation of an industrial free zone, establishing the company as a trailblazer in this sector in Madagascar. This venture, which it continues to lead successfully today, not only highlighted the untapped potential of free zones but also paved the way for Filatex's expansion into the real estate industry.

Said businesses led of course to a need for energy so Filatex have become a major provider of energy in Madagascar.

Hasnaine made it clear when speaking to us that the diversification of the group is ‘always related to the main business’ which has over time become the provision of efficient and reliable energy in the context of developing

LAFFERTY
Parc Solaire Filatex

African countries like Madagascar. Today the free industrial zone in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar employs 39,000 workers and Filatex provides 42% of energy generated on the island. Although most of its business is conducted in Madagascar, Filatex has intimate connections with Mauritius and France.

Keen to expand its operations in what is a growing market Filatex has an innovative project to develop solar energy on the roofs of its existing free zones and the new free zone it is constructing. Hasnaine proudly told us ‘We currently have 180,000 square metres of rooftops and we're going to make between 11 to 14 megawatt of solar production. So it's quite big as a rooftop project and will provide customers (i.e., companies installed in the free trade zone) with a reliable and green source of energy.

When asked what he thinks are the three major problems in the energy sector facing Filatex and Madagascar Hasnaine is unequivocal in arguing that problem one

is the grid, problem two the mix of energy sources to reduce reliability on heavy oil and third the financial viability of projects for investors.

Hasnaine is scathing as to the problems related to the power grid area, not just in Madagascar, but in Africa generally. He indicates that the grid is losing 35% of production due to poor conditions and lack of investment in the grid. The target is to reduce such losses to 5% in the immediate future while increasing reliability for consumers. As Hasnaine told us ‘We have to think about the whole sector, about transmission lines and the energy mix which should be in order to have less dependency on oil at the end. That's the goal’.

Parallelly to the grid being fixed, the next step is to develop an energy mix with solar and hydro generators playing an expanded role as they come on line. In order to expand the provision of hydroelectricity in a country which has a number of rivers suitable for exploitation in this manner Filatex has partnered with

Filatex Indusrial Zone

the French hydroelectricity company Hyvity to form ENHY. The target for ENHY is to develop a number of small and medium sized hydroelectric installations. Within ten years Filatex Energies intends to have a further 300 MW under development, 100% renewable energy (mainly solar). A massive expansion to the current capacity of the grid. As always the condition of the grid is vital to these projects so Filatex Energies will work closely with JIRAMA, the state-owned utility and water services company in Madagascar, to upgrade the grid where necessary.

For Filatex another problem is ensuring that projects are derisked to make them more attractive to investors. The solutions proposed here are quite simple with the suggestion being made that the state play a role by providing guarantees or placing funds in escrow. Whatever the solutions in the future, it's certain that Filatex will play a role in developing them.

Malagasy art and its promotion overseas is a passion for Hasnaine and Filatex. One major initiative in this field was the first Madagascan pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition in Venice. With over 600,000 visitors it put Madagascar on the international art map for the first time and Hasnaine is proud to have played a role in making it possible as he has been with the foundation of the Hakanto Contemporary art centre which is directed by the internationally renowned Madagascan artist Joël Andrianomearisoa. The valuable involvement of Hasnaine and the

Chief Executive Officer, Hasnaine Yavarhoussen
Gatweay Filatex

ENERGY GROUPE FILATEX

support of the Fonds Yavarhoussen were key in bringing the Venice pavilion and Hakanto Contemporary to life.

Hasnaine's commitment, through the Fonds Yavarhoussen, reflects his conviction that by showcasing Malagasy art to the wider world, it can create a meaningful impact on the population by "giving back the possibility to dream to the younger generation.”

Hasnaine argues that achieving this goal requires a dual approach, with their support divided into two complementary parts. “Contemporary art and then we have history of art. How are we going to know our contemporary side without knowing our history? So we are publishing books. We are supporting researchers. It creates a lot of exciting and interesting projects when we support and promote these artists.”

With considerable experience and a proven track record Hasnaine is keen for Filatex to expand its operations across sub-Saharan Africa. At present only 33.7% of the population has access to electricity and Filatex actively contributes to achieve the government's target for that to be increased to 70% by 2030. Across sub-Saharan Africa the position is not qualitatively better with an average of 48.4% in 2020 according to the World Bank.

Hasnaine is insistent and rightly so that Filatex has the ability, technical expertise and track record to provide sustainable and effective solutions to the provision of energy in emerging markets. All too often African countries have invested in major capital projects which have failed as a result of a lack of infrastructure to support them. Regarding this problem Hasnaine commented ‘everywhere in Africa they are talking about projects without having a complete solution, of being a producer of energy without knowing how they're going to transport energy, it’s just not realistic’.

The Regent Residences:

DUBAI REGENT RESIDENCES

Dubai’s reputation for groundbreaking architectural feats continues to soar with the forthcoming Regent Residences Dubai, a $1-billion luxury development set to redefine waterfront living in the city’s Business Bay district. Anchored by two 591-foot-tall towers, the project will include a daring 43-foot-long rooftop infinity pool, exclusively part of its opulent "ultrapenthouse".

Scheduled for completion in 2027, the Regent Residences will accommodate just 63 premium apartments, each

offering unparalleled luxury and expansive living spaces. The crown jewel of the development is the 35,000-square-foot penthouse, featuring six bedrooms, a gym, a private lift, and access to the iconic rooftop pool.

Every other apartment occupies an entire floor, measuring at least 6,500 square feet, each boasting private swimming terraces and access to an additional 82-foot indoor lap pool. Designed with breathtaking views in mind, residents will enjoy panoramas of Marasi Marina and the iconic Burj Khalifa.

DUBAI REGENT RESIDENCES

Architectural innovation lies at the core of this project, which was designed by the renowned British firm Foster + Partners, led by celebrated architect Norman Foster. The building’s dynamic, twisting form and cascading water-inspired terraces lend a distinctive character to the Dubai skyline.

The development will also feature exclusive amenities, including tennis and padel courts, outdoor lounges, a private cinema, and a virtual golf simulator. Residents can explore a vibrant podium space at the base of the towers, offering green spaces, retail outlets, and fine dining options.

Adding to the allure of the Regent Residences are 10 ultra-luxury floating "water villas" along the waterfront. Whilst prices for the “ultra-penthouse” remain undisclosed, other residences start at $10 million, solidifying the development as a jewel in Dubai’s crown of luxury real estate.

The Regent Residences marks the brand’s first property in the Middle East and forms part of the revitalisation of the Marasi Marina neighbourhood, further transforming Dubai Creek into a hub of sophistication and innovation.

Norman Foster’s architectural legacy is already woven into the fabric of the UAE, with previous projects including The Index, an 80-storey Dubai skyscraper, and Abu Dhabi’s forthcoming Zayed National Museum. The Regent Residences Dubai is poised to become another landmark addition, showcasing the city’s unrelenting ambition and flair for world-class design.

A New Standard for Luxury Living

The Regent Residences is not just a residential project; it is a bold statement in redefining the luxury living experience. Every detail of the development reflects a commitment to offering residents not only premium homes but also an elevated lifestyle that integrates comfort, innovation, and exclusivity. From high-end interior finishes to state-of-the-art smart home technologies, these residences are tailored to meet the discerning tastes of Dubai’s elite.

Sustainability has also been thoughtfully integrated into the project’s design. The development features energyefficient systems, sustainable materials, and carefully planned green spaces to enhance both aesthetics and environmental impact. Foster + Partners’ expertise in harmonising cutting-edge technology with sustainable architecture ensures that the Regent Residences will stand as a benchmark for environmentally conscious luxury developments in the Middle East.

The Evolution of Marasi Marina

Strategically situated in the Business Bay district, the Regent Residences are part of the broader transformation of Marasi Marina into a premier lifestyle destination. The banks of Dubai Creek will soon feature vibrant promenades, luxury yacht docks, and bustling retail and leisure spots, making it a magnet for residents and tourists alike.

This ambitious redevelopment project is a testament to Dubai’s commitment to maintaining its status as a global hub for innovation and design. By offering unique architectural marvels like the Regent Residences, the city continues to set itself apart from other global metropolises as the ultimate destination for luxury and modernity.

Pushing Boundaries in Real Estate

The Regent Residences also reflect a growing trend in Dubai’s property market: a shift towards exclusivity and ultra-highend developments catering to a niche clientele. With only 63 units in total, the project offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of a landmark development that is both iconic and deeply personalised.

For buyers seeking the pinnacle of waterfront living, the development’s floating water villas present an extraordinary option. Each villa is expected to be outfitted with bespoke features, offering residents an unparalleled connection to the serene waters of Dubai Creek while enjoying complete privacy and luxury.

As Dubai continues its upward trajectory as a city of architectural wonders, developments like the Regent Residences further cement its status as a leader in redefining what’s possible in luxury real estate. For those fortunate enough to call this iconic address home, the Regent Residences promise not just a place to live but an experience that epitomises the height of sophistication and innovation.

Inside the Louvre’s First-Ever Fashion Exhibition Versace to Dior

For the first time in history, the Louvre has opened its doors to a groundbreaking fashion exhibition, weaving together the worlds of haute couture and fine art.

Titled Louvre Couture, Art and Fashion: Statement Pieces, this show, running through July 21, explores the relationship between fashion and art across decades. Featuring creations from 45 iconic designers—Chanel, Balenciaga, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, and more—the exhibit highlights how these two disciplines inform and inspire each other.

The collection showcases 70 garments and 30 accessories strategically placed throughout the Louvre’s sprawling galleries, inviting visitors to explore the museum in a new way. This debut exhibition redefines the museum experience, blending contemporary fashion with timeless art.

Fashion in the World’s Largest Museum

While this is the Louvre’s first official fashion exhibition, clothing has long

played a role in the museum’s artwork. Paintings such as Vermeer’s The Lacemaker and Ingres’ Grand Odalisque remind us that what people wear—or don’t wear—has always shaped artistic expression. The exhibition builds on this connection by juxtaposing pieces like Alexander McQueen’s dramatic designs alongside classic works of art.

Laurence des Cars, president of the Louvre, described the initiative as a way to engage younger audiences and contribute to cultural understanding. Olivier Gabet, director of the museum’s art objects and curator of the exhibit, added, “The Louvre is more than just the Mona Lisa. This exhibition invites visitors to rediscover its treasures through the lens of fashion.”

Art as a Muse

Fashion designers have long drawn inspiration from the Louvre. For many, it’s more than a museum—it’s a creative muse. Some, like Christian Louboutin,

recall childhood memories of wandering its halls, while others, like Yves Saint Laurent, were avid art collectors themselves. This personal connection forms the foundation of the exhibition, with highlights like a Dior gown named Musée du Louvre—the only haute couture piece ever directly linked to a museum.

The exhibition also pays homage to historical art periods. For instance, a crystal-embroidered Dolce & Gabbana dress echoes 11th-century mosaics from Venice, while a silk Dior gown with a Sun King motif is displayed alongside a baroque portrait of Louis XIV.

Iconic Pieces on Display

Among the standout pieces is Gianni Versace’s 1997 metal mesh gown, adorned with Swarovski crystals and Byzantine-inspired embroidery. This showstopper, requiring over 600 hours of meticulous hand-stitching, influenced both Donatella Versace’s Tribute collection and Kim Kardashian’s gold dress at the 2018 Met Gala. Similarly, Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel designs take inspiration directly from the Louvre’s artifacts, such as an 18th-century blueand-white cabinet featured prominently in the exhibition.

The exhibition also explores how fashion incorporates historical motifs, from Medieval tapestries inspiring Dries van Noten to armour-style dresses that transform models into modern-day Joan of Arcs. Pieces like Iris van Herpen’s futuristic couture or Paco Rabanne’s 1967 chainmail tunic offer a glimpse into fashion’s timeless dialogue with history.

A Conversation Between Art and Fashion

As Paris Fashion Week approaches, Louvre Couture underscores the continuing exchange between art and fashion. “This exhibition isn’t here to define whether fashion is art,” said Gabet. “It’s about celebrating the creative culture shared by great designers.”

The conversation doesn’t end here. In March, the Louvre will host the Grand Dîner, an extravagant event already being dubbed the French answer to the Met Gala. With Louvre Couture, the museum has opened a new chapter in its legacy, cementing its role as not just a repository of history but also a hub for contemporary culture.

For both fashion enthusiasts and art lovers, this exhibition promises a journey through centuries of creative synergy— where the past meets the present in the world’s most iconic museum.
