Whilst I reflect on this issue, it has come to my attention that I’ve done a lot of travelling - all from the comfort of the Business Enquirer HQ in Norwich, UK (thank you, video calling).
In this month’s edition we’ve had the opportunity to visit the Southern Hemisphere, reporting on BioCina’s latest developments. Based out of a facility in Adelaide, it’s currently the only microbial drug substance facility of its kind in Australia to be approved by the US-FDA and is seeing great benefits basing itself in the “Land Down Under”.
I also had the pleasure of speaking with British expat, Paul Eastwood, who has, too, based himself in sunnier climes. Paul discusses with me the growth of Argon & Co, a leading consultancy transforming clients’ operations using its unique Assess Design Embed® approach.

The AI-powered platform combines software with human experts to give SMEs access to services often reserved for Big Four customers.
Numarics’ finance and business management platform simplifies and optimises operations to increase efficiency and save time. It is already supporting more than 3,000 customers.
The seed round was co-led by UBS and FiveT Fintech alongside Wingman Ventures and Seed X.
The investment will support growth through acquisitions, scale the team and enhance Numarics’ product.
Zurich, Switzerland. 08.00 AM CEST
6th July 2023: Swiss FinTech startup Numarics, a company building the business OS, has raised a €10.2M seed round for its automated accounting and administration solution tailored to SMEs. The investment was co-led by UBS through UBS Next, the firm’s venture and innovation unit, together with FiveT Fintech (formerly Avaloq Ventures) alongside previous investors Wingman Ventures and Seed X. The seed investment will support Numarics growth through acquisitions, expansion in the DACH region and further product development to offer a broader range of services.
Numarics was founded in 2020 by Kristian Kabashi, a business transformation and digital innovation expert, and Dominique Rey, a senior expert in financial accounting and regulatory audits with years of experience at PwC and Grant Thornton. Numarics was developed by experts in finance, Nuarics Team
auditing, AI and automation with a vision to seamlessly integrate business administration into the lifestyle of today's entrepreneurs through a mobile-first approach.
Numarics eliminates the need to use different software for accounting, invoicing, document management and liquidity planning and can save SMEs money by avoiding having to hire consultants. It offers a digital CFO solution that businesses can count on, and its combination of AI and human expertise enables a unique user experience that is fast, intelligent and secure. It automates many aspects of the back office, benefitting users and experts by removing tedious administrative tasks and providing insights from across the business.
Kristian Kabashi, Co-Founder & Co-CEO of Numarics, said, “Time-consuming business administration processes haven't changed in decades. Despite
the availability of numerous solutions, outdated business software can make it difficult for businesses to navigate growth and can even lead to failure. At Numarics, we are revolutionizing this by consolidating accounting and finance software, offering SMEs a comprehensive CFO solution supported by our robust operations and expert team. We are building the back office of the future, creating a world where SMEs are free from business administration. Our business OS provides entrepreneurs with an all-in-one solution to run their company and scale faster."
Numarics has raised €19.7M to date. In a short period, it has scaled to great heights and won the trust of many businesses.
At present, Numarics operates from nine offices across Switzerland. With a team of over 100 experts, the company has built a substantial customer base of over 3,000 clients. Numarics has made four acquisitions this year, including acquiring a&o kreston, one of the leading fiduciary companies in Switzerland.
Mike Dargan, Group Chief Operations and Technology Officer at UBS, said, “Through UBS Next, we look to invest in companies that will help shape the future of banking to meet our clients’ evolving needs. This investment will support Numarics’ growth efforts and expansion of new and existing products for SMEs, an important client base for our firm in the region.”
Alexander Christen, Founding Partner at FiveT Fintech, emphasized, “The investment in Numarics completes our fund I, which focuses on Fintechs driving industry transformation. We have strong confidence in the team and their digital CFO solution to disrupt the traditional accounting market. This round of funding will help to accelerate expansion, add new product features, and increase automation, ultimately helping founders and SMEs to head into a new era of efficient and streamlined financial management.”
Pascal Mathis, Founding Partner at Wingman Ventures, added, “The Numarics business operating system is transforming how SMEs function. In the
past year, we have seen the team’s rapid growth and are certain with this round of funding, Numarics will be able to impact more SMEs with its transformative solutions. We are happy to back Numarics’ outstanding team for the second time and support them in their vision.”
Numarics initially launched its product in September 2021 and was awarded Gold in the Enterprise category of Best Of Swiss Apps 2021. This year, Numarics was also recognized as one of the top 10 fintech companies in Switzerland and one of the top five growth-stage startups by the prestigious Swiss FinTech Awards.

Over 30 events on 5 continents as Climate Clock team plan several actions in major cities to demand climate emergency with 5 years left to avert climate catastrophe.
London, United Kingdom, Monday 17 July 2023: The Climate Clock countdown that tracks the deadline to stay below 1.5°C of global warming will flip from 6 years 0 days 00:00:00 to 5 years 364 days 23:59:59 for the first time in history on Saturday 22 July 2023. Climate activists and thought leaders will shift to “less than 6 years to keep global warming below 1.5°C” when describing the urgency of our climate challenge.
The tick-over will happen at 5:00 PM BST.
Climate Clock is known for its 80-foot digital clock face in New York City’s Union Square, as well as its other largescale clocks located across the globe in London, Rome, Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing and Harrisburg, PA. In addition, portable “action” clocks are in the hands of climate leaders across the world, from Greta Thunberg to Bill McKibben to the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Phillip Davis, and most recently displayed during final negotiations at COP27.
The tick-over moment will be marked by messages on the world-famous Climate Clock in New York’s Union Square, including:
“LESS THAN 6 YEARS”
“#5YEARS TO ACT”
“DELAY = DENIAL”
“A GLOBAL MOMENT TO #ACTINTIME”
The moment will inspire global action across the world, including synchronised efforts by climate youth throughout Africa who will carry portable Climate Clocks from local climate impact zones into the halls of power, demanding that governments and corporations #ActInTime to meet our climate deadline and enact system-wide solutions to the climate crisis including the radical reduction of fossil fuel emissions and rapid deployment of renewable energy.
In total, there are over 30 events, including marches, vigils and Twitter storms to mark CLIMATE EMERGENCY DAY 2023, carried out by local community action organisations in locations ranging from Alexandria, Egypt; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Helsinki, Finland; Goa, India; and more. In addition, there will be a worldwide live-streamed countdown as the Clock approaches the tick-over moment.
Now Has Five Years to Stay Under 1.5°C
A sample of these actions includes:
• New York City, USA: A countdown vigil will be held in front of the world-famous Climate Clock in Union Square.
• Washington DC, USA: Advocates will engage with members of Congress and demand President Biden declare a national climate emergency.
• Nairobi, Kenya: A Twitter storm, youth engagement with over 100 children with guest of honour Jeff Koinange, a march from Nyayo National Stadium to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s office with 400 participants expected to attend and several speeches and press briefings.
• Accra, Ghana: Activists, pop stars and the mayor are establishing a new climate square in the capital city of Accra.
• India: A mass climate clock assembly event will be held in Goa, and energy literacy teach-ins will be held in hundreds of schools after Indian scientist Dr Chetan Singh Solanki inspired a movement that built over 500 Climate Clock’s on Earth Day 2023 to set a new world record.
“The climate crisis is no longer a speculation; it is a living hazard, causing destruction from Lake Victoria, Kenya to Vermont, USA. On Climate Emergency Day, when the Climate Clock ticks below 6 years for the first time, we call on world leaders to act in time with greater urgency, ambition, and resources to secure a just and livable world while it is still possible.”
Rahmina Paullete, Climate Activist and Conservationist, Fridays for Future, Head Campaigner at #LetLakeVictoriaBreatheAgain.“The science behind the Climate Clock tells us we have less than 6 years to stay under 1.5°C warming — if policymakers ignore this hard deadline, we risk becoming accomplices of delay and devastation instead of the architects of a timely and just transition. Climate Emergency Day 2023 is a reminder that time is a resource we can’t renew.”
Rosalind Skillen, MSc Environmental“From countdown vigils in New York to pop concerts in Accra; from direct action in Finland to mass student clock-building in Goa, communities across the world are joining together on Climate Emergency Day in a huge, synchronised moment to demand that global leaders act in time. With less than six years left on the Climate Clock, we need accelerated progress on system-wide solutions to our climate emergency like renewable energy, loss and damage financing, and fossil fuel divestment – and we need it now.” Gan Golan, Co-creator, Climate Clock.
“On Climate Emergency Day, at the moment the Climate Clock clicks below 6 years for the very first time, a cry will go up across the world, from young and old, rich and poor, from folks from every walk of life, and on every continent: ‘our planet and its people are in trouble, we must act in time!” Andrew Boyd, Co-creator, Climate Clock.
The Climate Clock is a global symbol of urgency, melding art, science, tech, and grassroots mobilisation to alert people to the climate emergency and help enact hopeful, doable solutions in line with global commitments to the Paris Agreement that aims to keep global warming below 1.5°C to preserve a liveable world for all. The deadline on the clock is sourced from IPCC data, the gold standard of climate science.
Individuals and communities worldwide are encouraged to mark the moment the Clock ticks below 6 years for the first time. Hundreds have already signed up to take part. Those wishing to join in can find a training hub, a resource toolkit, and other information at ClimateEmergencyDay. com.

In the rapidly growing plant-based protein industry, one woman stands at the forefront, leading the charge toward a more sustainable and delicious future.
ChristineLewington, CEO of Protein Isolate Plant (PIP) International, has disrupted the market with her innovative approach and unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. With a wealth of experience in the field, Lewington and her team at PIP are revolutionizing the way we think about plant-based protein, with PIP’s gamechanging pea protein isolate.
The success of PIP can be attributed to a three-fold commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability. The cuttingedge wet fractionation pilot facility and commercial testing centre in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, harnesses the power of yellow peas sourced from Alberta and Saskatchewan to produce top-quality plant-based protein products. What sets PIP apart is its exclusive master license agreement for a transformative coercion technology, solidifying its position as an industry leader.
Looking ahead, PIP is on the cusp of a major expansion. A groundbreaking new processing plant, valued at an impressive $150 million, is currently under construction. Once operational, this facility will process a staggering 126,000 metric tons of yellow peas per year, supporting over $75 million in annual pea contracts for local and regional growers. PIP is set to become the highest-capacity protein processing plant in the world, a testament to its commitment to excellence.
Sustainability is at the centre of PIP’s mission. Powered primarily by a 17-megawatt solar farm, the new facility will be net-zero electrically, further reducing its environmental footprint with innovative thermal and hydrogen technologies. PIP also aims to reduce water usage by at least 30 percent compared to standard protein extraction processes, showcasing a dedication to responsible resource management.
Further, plant-based protein alternatives have the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and offer numerous health benefits. While some may argue that real meat is healthier than plant-based protein alternatives, advancements in the plant-based food industry are continually improving the nutritional composition of these products. Plant-based proteins contain less saturated fat and cholesterol while offering fiber, essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, contributing to a healthier lifestyle.
Lewington’s vision and ambition are crystal clear. She envisions PIP as a global leader in plant-based processing, with sights set on major markets such as Europe and South Korea. With exceptional premium protein and cost-saving production methods, PIP is poised to disrupt the plant-based protein market on a global scale.

Paris Saint-Germain welcome another World Champion into its squad. A French international since March 2018, Lucas Hernández played a key role in Didier Deschamps’ side’s incredible run in the World Cup in Russia a few months later. The left-footed defender started every match at the World Cup, and provided two assists. The first one in the Round of 16 win over Argentina (4-3) and another one in the final against Croatia (4-2).
The 27-year-old, who is the older brother of Théo Hernández, has now made 33 appearances for Les Bleus, and added a victory in the 2021 UEFA Nations League to his list of international honours. After suffering a serious injury against Australia in France’s opening match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, Lucas Hernández has not pulled on the blue jersey since.
His solid record at international level echoes the many titles that he has won during his various experiences at club level. In 2018, he won the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup with Atlético Madrid, the club with which he made his professional debut in 2014.
A versatile player who can play at either left-back or centre-back, Lucas Hernández eventually joined Bayern Munich in 2019, where he quickly established himself as a key player.
By 2020, he had won no fewer than six trophies with the Bavarian club: the Champions League, the Bundesliga, another UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the German Cup and the German Super Cup. Lucas Hernández was crowned German champion again in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and won the German Super Cup in 2022.
Born in Brescia, Italy, in 2004, Ndour started out as an academy player for Brescia Calcio in 2009, then for Atalanta BC in 2013, before moving to Portugal in 2020 to sign his first professional contract with SL Benfica.
The Italian-Senegalese midfielder initially featured for the Lisbon-based outfit’s reserve team in Liga Portugal 2, thereby becoming, at 16 years and 279 days old, the youngest-ever player to play for Benfica B. On top of this, Ndour helped the Portuguese side’s U19s to take home the UEFA Youth League in 2022, notably scoring a goal in the final.
On 18th March 2023, he made his firstteam debut in a game against Vitória de Guimarães, which gave him the chance to play a part in Benfica’s league title win last season. Capable of using both
Born in Incheon in South Korea in 2001, Lee Kang-In moved to Spain to play for Valencia CF in 2011 when he was 10 years old. Seven years later, in 2018, he made his first team debut at 17 years old.
After 3 seasons, 62 matches and 3 goals scored in the Valencia colours, he signed for RCD Mallorca in 2021. Predominantly playing as a winger, but equally effective through the middle, Lee Kang-In has just had a very successful season. He took part in 39 matches in all competitions, scoring 6 goals and picking up 6 assists.
A South Korean international since 2019, the 1.73m midfielder has pulled on the shirt of his national team 14 times and played in all 4 of his team’s matches at the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
After coming through the CA Fénix academy in Montevideo, the Uruguayan capital and his home town, Manuel Ugarte made his first-team debut in December 2016 aged just 15 years and eight months. Over four seasons, the young midfielder accumulated experience before moving to Europe to join Portuguese side FC Famalicão at the end of 2020.
Seven months, 27 games and one goal against Rio Ave FC were enough to convince Sporting CP to sign one of the most promising defensive midfielders in the world.
In August 2021, he played his first game for Sporting just a few weeks before making his senior international debut against Bolivia (4-2 win, 6 September 2021).
Last winter, Manuel Ugarte was among the 26 players called up by coach Diego Alonso for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He currently has eight caps for Uruguay.
“I’m really happy to take this big step in my career at such a great club,” said Manuel Ugarte. “I’m going to give my all for Paris Saint-Germain.”
After coming through the RCD Mallorca youth academy, Marco Asensio made his first-team debut with his hometown club during the 2013/14 season.
After joining Real Madrid in summer 2015, he was immediately loaned out to RCD Espanyol where he scored four times in 37 appearances, including a brace and an assist on his debut for the Catalan club.
Marco Asensio then returned to Madrid where, over seven seasons, he won three La Liga titles (2017, 2020, 2022), 2 Spanish Super Cups (2017 & 2020), 3 Champions Leagues (2017, 2018, 2022), 4 Club World Cups (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022), 3 UEFA Super Cups (2016, 2017 and 2022) and a Copa del Rey (2023).
The left-footer was called up by Spain for the first time in May 2016, and was part of Julen Lopetegui’s 2018 World Cup squad. Four years later, Marco Asensio featured in his second World Cup, scoring once.
“It’s a privilege to be part of this great club,” said Marco Asensio. “I’m looking forward to joining my new teammates and working with them to achieve some great goals.”
You can find Marco Asensio’s reaction to joining the club exclusively on PSG. FR and across Paris Saint-Germain’s digital platforms.

Rated as “Excellent” by consumers on Trustpilot, and one of only three energy firms to have ever received a Which? recommendation, 100% renewable supplier So Energy was established in 2015 as an alternative in what it calls the “UK’s broken energy market”.
Merging with ESB Energy in 2021, the relationship has laid the foundations for future for growth and means So Energy now supplies electricity to over 300,000 customers.
The business is focussed on keeping customer service at the heart of its operations, with the aim to provide a more affordable energy solution. Rather than high profile advertising campaigns, So Energy invests money into championing important consumercentric initiatives and investing into much-needed support for UK households.
So Energy’s challenger mindset starts at the top, with Chief Executive Monica Collings utilising her strong, authentic, purpose-led leadership style to help bring change to the industry.
Startlingly, Monica is the only female CEO in the UK’s domestic energy sector. Furthermore, she is one of only six female CEOs across the top 80 energy companies, with 74% of the top firms in the sector having no women on the executive team, and 21% with none on the board.

“It's time we see a shift in the industry, how energy companies are run and how they better support their customers,” said Monica when speaking with Business Enquirer.
Whilst the wider UK energy sector is tasked with achieving 40% of middle management and leadership roles filled by women by 2030, Monica and So Energy is on a mission to surpass this.
“Our commitment is to achieve 50% of women in middle management and senior leadership positions by 2025,” states Monica. “Whilst we are not far from this within senior leadership roles, there’s work to do in strengthening our pipeline for middle managers. The investment we intend to make over the next two years to support colleagues' growth is how we will achieve this”.
Joining So Energy in 2021 as part of the ESB merger, Monica has been in the energy industry for five years, and sees her position as an opportunity to be
a role model for future leaders in the sector. As such, So Energy supports a female leadership fast-track programme, and involves itself in initiatives such as POWERful Women.
Becky Strachan, is just one example of a So Energist on the fast-track scheme. To gain sponsorship for the course, Becky put together a thought-provoking presentation on the obstacles women face, especially working in male dominated sectors, and spoke about how she was determined to help educate the whole business on the ways in which we can all be better allies.
Since its launch in 2014, POWERful Women has been striving to create a gender-balanced, diverse and inclusive UK energy sector. Their annual conference event unites 16 heads of the largest energy companies (including So Energy) under the banner of the Energy Leaders’ Coalition (ELC), which Monica believes “has the power and influence to drive change”.
So Energy has implemented its Diversity & Belonging Strategy to support closing both the gender and ethnicity pay gaps. Alongside this it has developed the Friends of So Energy, a collaborative group of partners working with So Energy to share statistics across the supply chain through what the company calls its Contract Beyond a Contract.
“For the energy industry to continue to grow and evolve, company mobility needs to be scaffolded by inclusive systems,” she said, “The road to net zero will require creative thinking and new and innovative ideas and will only be reached if we ensure that everyone has the ability to bring their whole selves to work, and are set up with the right tools to enable them to succeed”.
Underpinned by its challenger mindset, So Energy is turning the industry on its head, putting the control back into the consumers’ hands.
“We are the only supplier to give customers a vote on where our renewable energy source comes from,” highlighted Monica, “we are truly committed to supporting our customers”.
So Energy is also the first supplier to offer a fixed tariff to new customers since the beginning of the energy crisis.
Monica foresees that AI will bring opportunity for the business to offer enhanced support to its customers, when they need it.
“We have developed a working group with our partners to identify how we can use AI for better and faster support for customers. This could include energy consumption monitoring to reduce costs for customers, and enable us to identify and target outreach for those who are vulnerable,” she said.
So Energy is actively engaged with the government, lobbying for and championing change.
To help vulnerable customers afford their energy for years to come, So Energy is proposing a Social Tariff.
The aim of the proposed Social Tariff is to eliminate fuel poverty, which a person is deemed to be in if they pay over 10% of their income on heat and light after housing costs have been factored in. Research by the Social Market Foundation finds that 9.8 million households will be in fuel poverty if bills are over £2500 a year, the current annual average.
“A Social Tariff is a targeted reduction in energy bills for qualifying low-income households,” explained Monica, “All bill payers would see a flat additional cost to help fund the Social Tariff. Then, when a predetermined set of criteria shows that the nation is in an “elevated” energy price scenario, further funding is contributed by the taxpayer. To protect against unfunded spending commitments, the amount of additional taxpayer funding provided would be capped”.
As part of its campaign for the Social Tariff, So Energy has engaged with Government, consumer, and charity groups as well as influenced strategic thinking in the wider energy sector.
Monica has also identified the need for the Government to invest in a current skills gap.
“Initiatives to help the UK reach net zero are being rolled out, for example So Energy’s heat pumps in partnership with Evergreen, and our first full service solar and storage solution. However, there is a lack of skilled engineers in this area to meet the country’s ambition. We will be pioneering the government to support a “Net Zero Skills Programme”,” Monica concluded.

Whilst it is accepted that AI already plays a role in the automation of beverage manufacturing, Hungary’s market leader is about to unleash something that will really shock you.
n July 2023, Hell Energy, whose drinks portfolio is available worldwide, will launch the first drink to be created entirely by AI.
Utilising its intelligence and market and consumer knowledge, the AI developed every element of the new energy drinkappropriately named “AI” - from flavour and ingredients to packaging design and marketing.
The drink, which is tutti-frutti and red berry flavoured, is fortified with vitamins and amino acids, and contains 32mg per 100ml caffeine content. The AI, which was overseen by the Hell Energy human team, critically ensured that the drink complies with current food industry legislation.
“As well as the human team, the AI even taste-tested three different flavours, picking the one it felt had the highest probability of consumer enjoyment,” shared Hell Energy’s Regional Commercial Manager, Péter Gárdosi, when speaking with Business Enquirer.
“The product is the first of its kind and is truly unique,” he continued.
Launching in the UK in August 2023, the AI research and development process took just one month, in comparison to the existing process which can take up to a year.

LAURA WATLINGHell Energy’s portfolio of drinks in the UK includes its energy drink range in eleven different flavours and an iced coffee range in five variants.
Both products have garnered huge success across the world, with the energy drink achieving market leader status in 10 countries, and its ice coffee in six.
In addition, the business produces a sister brand, XIXO, with a range of ice tea and soft drinks, which are not available yet in the UK.
Hell Energy is the proud recipient of a Strategic Manufacturing Award in World-Class Manufacturing. Its manufacturing plant in Szikszó, Hungary was ranked among the top three European factories winning the ACQ5 Global Awards’ European Factory of the Year Award in 2018.
In 2019, Hell Energy launched its fully automated warehouse, which runs 24/7 without the need of human touch. As well as warehousing and logistics, including five depots in the UK, Hell Energy has a unique,
vertically integrated filling factory in Hungary.
“Quality and innovation are one of Hell Energy’s most important missions, and has been considered our trademark since we were established in 2006,” shared Péter, “That mission is represented in every inch of our brand, from the ingredients we use and our environmentally friendly packaging, through to our factories and warehouses”.
The most recent addition to Hell Energy’s production complex is its filling plant which is suitable for the production of milk-based beverages in aluminium cans.
Now, the business can produce 50,000 cans of its premium iced coffee an hour from its 11,880 metre squared plant.
It’s clear that Hell Energy’s AI energy drink was not its first foray into innovation. Nor was its groundbreaking filling factory.
As part of its philosophy to create value in its products, Hell Energy has invested in aluminium can production, and, in 2017, launched Quality Pack, Hungary’s first

Stolle Machinery’s relationship with Hell Energy and Quality Pack started back in 2015 when the initial plans were laid down for their first can and end manufacturing facility, this was supported with equipment sourced from from our global facilities and the project per se was executed from our Systems division based in the United Kingdom. Working closely together with the Hell Energy Team on the ground in Hungary the plant soon started to evolve and over the following nine months the project was completed. In the years to follow the second line and the end line expansion took place increasing the capacity to over two billion.
Currently we are directly engaged in the third line which will then take the facility over the three billion marker. Over the years that we have been working together and as mentioned earlier Stolle has invested in further technology to enhance its ability to support the business.
With the exception of the palletiser we are able to provide
all of the equipment for the can line, our washer uses 25% of the water of a conventional washer and our oven technology has considerably better energy efficiency. Stolle’s end modules are renowned for their robust design and reliability.
SPDS our Stolle Product Delivery System is the foundation underpinning our commitment to continuous improvement and to the consistent meeting of evolving customer requirements. The company has invested heavily in all divisions as well as in new technology. We pay particular attention to the needs of the industry and understand the necessity for incremental development. To that end our SATO ( Stolle Advanced Technology Operations ) team has been bolstered with a new research and development center in Centennial US to ensure that fresh ideas and creative product development continue well into the future. Quality Pack have also embraced new technology at every opportunity and we continue to work closely together to that end.
As their business has grown it has been a pleasure to be alongside them providing the equipment and systems services to support their ever expanding portfolio.

aluminium beverage can factory. The business is also the first in the world to used aluminium that is certified with at least 75% recycled content.
The 42,000 square foot factory produces 3 billion 250 ml beverage cans and can lids per year using Aluminium “this is considered a really beneficial raw material since it is 100 percent recyclable, infinitely,” shared Péter.
The product is lightweight, reducing transport emissions, and, when recycled, can be back on the shelves within two months.
“The aluminium cans have helped the business to reduce its C02 emissions by 60%, we believe it is the packaging of the future,” explained Péter.
Now, over 95% of Hell Energy’s products come in aluminium cans, with the company aiming to increase this above 99% by 2025.
“Our vertically integrated factory complex means that Hell Energy can declare that it manufactures its products entirely by itself without the use of an external source,” he continued.
“Hell Energy is a family business which has been founded on providing high quality at affordable prices,” explained Péter.
In the last 17 years the brand has formed significant advertising partnerships to boost its global marketing, including with the AT&T Williams Formula 1 team in 2009, and a long standing relationship with Hollywood superstar Bruce Willis.
A market leader in 10 countries including Hungary, Romania, Greece, and most recently India, Hell Energy has ambitious growth plans.
“Our plan is to increase the availability of our products in UK Key Account chains, and further increase our market share,” said Péter, “we’ll also seek out further opportunities in Western Europe”.
Hell Energy’s biggest project within the next 12 months is building its new production facility, which will double its capacity to 78,000 square metres. In addition, it will look to secure its aluminium supplier contract for the next three years.
And, within the next three to five years the business aims to be a leader in any geographic market it reaches.
“We are in very good shape for the future,” shared Péter.

Across the Atlantic, the mining firm has created a substantial footprint in The Americas, with three assets in production, and a further three in development (San Luis, Peru and Pitarrilla NSR, Mexico) and exploration (Canada).
Its asset in the USA, the Marigold mine, is situated along the Battle MountainEureka trend in Nevada.
Steeped in history, Marigold has been producing since 1989, and was acquired by SSR Mining in April 2014. It is believed to have a further eight years of mine life to 2032, and gold production through to 2038, with the potential for mine life extension.
The mine is a large run-of-mine heap leach operation with several open pits, waste rock stockpiles, leach pads, a carbon absorption facility, and a carbon processing and gold refining facility.
Currently, the mine utilises a fleet of 290-tonne haul trucks and three loading units. The gold doré bars produced at the mine are shipped to a third party refinery. Much like its operations in Turkey, near-mine exploration in Nevada is ongoing, with a focus on higher-grade oxides, resource expansion and reserve conversion.
Further north can be found SSR Mining’s producing asset in Canada, the Seabee mine, which is based along the TransHudson Corridor in Saskatchewan.
Acquired by SSR Mining in 2016, the Seabee mine has been in continuous commercial production since 2014.
In April 2022, SSR Mining expanded its existing exploration platform at Seabee through the acquisition of Taiga Gold. In the same year, the mine report record production levels, with an output of 136,125 ounces of gold
The company’s properties in Saskatchewan now cover an area of approximately 131,150 hectares Seabee has successfully replaced gold
reserves over the mine’s 30 year operating life, and current exploration programs are designed to support
Seabee’s continuation into the next decade. Finally, in South America, SSR Mining owns the Puna mine, which can be found along the Bolivian silver belt in Jujuy, Argentina.
Puna, which is 100% owned by SSR Mining, comprises the Chinchillas mine and the Pirquitas property, which includes the Pirquitas processing facilities.
The Chinchillas mine is a silver-lead-zinc deposit, which achieved commercial production in December 2018. It aims to supply ore to the Pirquitas processing facilities (which has been in commercial production since 2009) over an 8-year active mining period.
The 2021 SK1300 Technical Report Summary life of mine plan for Puna featured 5 years of mining to 2026 including average annual production of 7.0 million ounces of silver over the first 5 years.
Like SSR Mining’s other assets, the puna operation features opportunities for mine life extension, including the potential for in-pit Mineral Reserve and Resource growth at the Chinchillas pit, potential for near-mine Mineral Reserve and Resource growth at the Cortaderas target, and greenfield exploration targeting across the regional Puna land package.
SSR Mining is on a mission to create value & leave a legacy through responsible and sustainable operations.
One strategy it has implemented is its “Safe For Life” mining safety program.
The program emphasises balancing the human and technical aspects of safety: blending leadership behaviours with traditional management activities to create a safe, productive culture.
Encouraging positive reinforcement and open, honest communication to build trust, SSR Mining aims to ensure that its staff understand their individual contributions to safe production.
In this positive environment, SSR Mining encourages safety awareness, recognising hazards and analysing risk in staff’s daily activities. Each employee is empowered to take the necessary actions to minimise risks.
“Our ultimate goal is to achieve “safe for
life” and deliver safe production every day,” says SSR Mining’s website.
Ensuring a long-term vision, SSR Mining has also made a commitment to sustainable mining.
“Being responsible environmental stewards is a critical part of our business,” said SSR Mining CEO, Rodney Antal, in its 2022 Sustainability Report.
In 2022, the mining organisation designed and formalised a global, cross functional
water strategy to ensure water is treated as a vital resource that is critical to its operations and communities. In the same year, it reported a company-wide water reuse and recycling rate of 89%.
In addition, the SSR Mining is committed to innovation and understanding how new technologies can help it to operate more efficiently, maximising its longevity.

Rivalling other prime locations worldwide, Australia has come into its own as an international front runner for biopharmaceutical research and development.
One of the major benefits for biotech companies to call Australia home is the financial incentive.
Depending on its revenue, a company may be eligible for up to a 43.5% tax credit on research and development expenditure including clinical trials, analytics and study drug manufacture. In addition, Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) offers a considerably more efficient regulatory pathway through early clinical trials, than other countries. It can be expected that patient testing for a Phase 1 study may begin in as quickly as four weeks, and the entire Phase 1 trial timeline may be accelerated by as much as six to nine months.
The Australian Government’s Clinical Trials Activity initiative will provide $750 million over 10 years between 202223 and 2031-32 to increase clinical trial activity in Australia. The initiative’s focus has been expanded to enable funding of research projects focused on any disease or condition that meets the objective specified in each grant opportunity. Now, 11% of the world’s clinical trials are taking place in Australia.
One of the businesses to take this opportunity is BioCina, a Contract Development Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO) and one of 15 life science assets, collectively worth $3 billion, owned by investor, The Bridgewest Group.
Whilst the most well-known biotech hubs sit in the Northern Hemisphere, in the likes of Boston, USA, and Cambridge, UK, it is Australia that is on the path to disrupt the industry.
Based out of a facility in Adelaide, dating back to 1982 and previously owned by Pfizer, it is currently the only microbial drug substance facility of its kind in Australia to be approved by the US-FDA.
In the last 18 months since it launched, Biocina has developed its offering in three key areas of development through cGMP manufacturing: microbial platform, plasmid DNA (pDNA), and mRNA.
Within miocrobial development of various proteins, BioCina has the ability to maintain cell banks, the experience and capability for clinical manufacturing, and commercial manufacturing.
For pDNA, Biocina supplies bulk plasmid DNA in three grades: Research, Highly Documented, and GMP plasmid DNA for pre-clinical to commercial use. There continues to be growth in pDNA needs for global biotechs developing cell therapies, viral vectors and other platforms.
In April 2023, BioCina announced that it has been awarded a $5 million AUD grant under the Australian Government’s Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Grants scheme. This will fund work with its industry partners to develop enabling technologies for manufacture of precision mRNA vaccines.
Currently, BioCina has a GMP suite for the manufacturing of clinical and commercial microbial drug substance materials, with a bioreactor at 750L. They are looking to add an additional bioreactor up to 2000L. “Plasmid DNA can be produced up to 435L and attain yields exceeding 10g, while the RNA is currently at R&D scale of 1L with GMP expected mid-year in 2024,” explained Sven Lee, BioCina’s Chief Commercial Officer.
“We have good quality systems in place to support the products that BioCina develops and manufactures, and opportunities across platforms are growing. With the support of the Bridgewest Group, Biocina is looking to
expand its capabilities to be able to offer more to our clients in the next 12 to 18 months,” he continued.
Employing 75 staff at its current facility, Sven anticipates the need to expand personnel and capacity to meet the demand of BioCina’s work in cGMP.
“We also see the potential to expand our footprint in Australia, or possibly locations such as Eastern Europe,” continued Sven.
BioCina puts a big emphasis on trust and open communication with its staff, and a goal of high employee and customer satisfaction. Ranked fourth in the world for work-life balance, this is just another reason why Australia is the perfect fit for BioCina.
During its transition from the Pfizer facility, BioCina, supported by Bridgewest, retained 90% of staff, a testament to its focus on employee happiness and satisfaction.
“We’ve recently employed a new Head of HR to encourage more staff engagement. The team is world-class, and we are very excited to have the opportunity to retain such a capable and experienced group of individuals,” said Sven.
BioCina is particularly proud of its rigorous health and safety measures, which has seen the business achieve eight years serious injury free.
After 18 months on the BioCina board, and moving within BioCina as Chief Commercial Officer at the start of 2023, this is not Sven’s first foray in business leadership.
With a degree in Biology, Sven has worked for six years as Chief Business Officer at Abzena, Senior Director of Global Business Development and Sales at Terumo BCT’s Cell Therapy Technology medical device unit, and as Global Vice
During his time in these roles, Sven’s focus has been on business growth.
He has also taken on roles at Crucell (now Janssen), Sanofi and Biogen, including business development, licensing, marketing and strategic planning.
“I’m used to working cross-functionally, and I enjoy working for smaller businesses where you can truly influence growth,” shared Sven
From a leadership perspective, Sven considers it important to hire people with experience, who have the ability to “jump in and move at a quick pace”.
Leading by example, the core team at BioCina is made up of individuals with decades of clinical and commercial microbial fermentation experience.
To support BioCina’s growth, Sven believes it is imperative to form partnerships with vendors to ensure minimal disruption to clients.
“The last three years have been challenging for the industry, but there is now a lot of investment being made into CDMOs and so it's a positive time to be taking strides in the industry, and in Australia,” said Sven.

Under the umbrella of Elixr, an ecosystem of high-growth, complex, and innovative technology companies will be brought to market, by co-founders Catalina Valentino, Joseph Michael Daniels, and Jaie Petty.
Ultimately, the business will be aligned via UNS (unified namespace). The next advancement in the Industry 4.0, UNS is a software layer which acts as a centralised space for all data collected, as well as all its context, to be stored, accessed and used. This allows multiple companies coded into the UNS to work in a unified manner.
Early adopters of UNS include big-name innovators such as Tesla, SpaceX and NASA.
Speaking to Business Enquirer, cofounder and CEO, Catalina, explained that Elixr is an “ecosystem of very innovative tech solution companies. Each one is designed to revolutionise their own industry as well as built to work in unison and hosted on Planet.Earth, another Elixr technology”.
Meanwhile, the business is also launching Elixr Labs, the Venture Builder arm of the organisation.
In the next six months, the digital sustainability sector is going to be wowed off its feet by eight emerging technology businesses hitting the market.
“Elixr Labs is designed to take a start-up from strategy building, through tech development stack, marketing design and strategy, and ultimately launch,” added cofounder and Chairman, Joseph.
The business will co-found and co-develop each company with its founder, providing all the technical expertise from the world’s best in business, who can be found on its Gen-X advisory board.
“For our services, we ask for equity in the business, which start-ups are eager to offer to us in return for our vast, unique, and disruptive skill set,” Joseph explained,
“our company board is made up of Gen-Z and Millenials, whilst our Gen-X advisory board have been hand-picked to provide strategic vision, dynamic design and business experience”.
“Thanks to our extensive and established network, Elixr Labs is able to offer the best set of hands suited to each company for investment from our VC partners or network of Angel Investors to build companies together”, Catalina added.
Currently, in the Elixr Labs programme, the team are nurturing innovative and disruptive emerging businesses by providing UX/UI, Artificial Intelligence,
Media, Go-To-Market, and Social Marketing and Content.
Elixr Labs is on a mission to enable entrepreneurs to innovate, revolutionise, and reimagine the world sustainably, with ESG forming the foundations of all its businesses.
An exciting step into Industry 4.0, Elixr’s network of businesses (currently eight but with growth in mind) will include Planning Tech which will revolutionise Digital Twins (a dynamic virtual copy of a physical asset, process, system or environment that looks like and behaves identically to
its real-world counterpart) and human engagement by meta-connecting everyone.
In September 2023, during New York Climate Week, Elixr plans to launch its Digital Twin LiDar Technology platform.
“This focuses on unlocking measurements and data to be the live large language model for decarbonisation of existing assets, the beginning of a digital passport,” shared Joseph.
Revolutionising voting for the masses, stage three of the Elixr ecosystem launch will be to bring its digital voting and engagement system to market.
“ON PLANET. EARTH VISITORS WILL BE ABLE TO ENGAGE, INTERACT AND SELECT TECHNOLOGIES TO SEE AND UNDERSTAND OUR WORLD IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT WAY.”
“Our digital voting platform aims to increase social inclusion,” highlighted Jaie, Elixr co-founder and Media Director, “this is pivotal in ensuring everybody’s voice is heard”.
The new technology will implement a specialised triple notary and verification system.
November will see the first look at Elixr’s Sustainable Finance Platform, focused on ESG investments, allowing investors to find innovative companies, vetted and ready for investor returns.
Ultimately, as the clock chimes midnight into 2024, Elixr aims to go live with Planet. Earth, a Digital Twin which will exist as a living, real time copy of the whole planet. “On Planet.Earth visitors will be able to engage, interact and select technologies to see and understand our world in a totally different way. Setting the scene for mixed reality whilst enabling decisionmaking and interactivity that’s yet to be seen in human history,” explained Catalina. Whilst Catalina highlights that it’s incredibly exciting to be bringing eight first-to-market businesses into the world, what will be crucial is the right messaging.
“Elixr are at the forefront of the next digital revolution, but we understand that our technology will be new to many,” she said, “to ensure we are implementing all the right measures from the offset, including our messaging, we have curated an experienced advisory board of leaders,”.
This includes Elixr’s Chief Ethics Officer, ensuring that ethics is at the heart of every technology business Elixr builds.
With ESG and social impact forming the foundations of Elixr, it will also launch a non-profit arm of the business, the Elixr Foundation, spearheaded by Jaie.
The foundation strives to utilise Jaie’s skills to shed light on social and environmental issues around the globe, in turn actively
building support for shaping a better future for those in need.
Currently, the foundation is helping to build a new home for a young girl who lost everything during the recent earthquakes.
“The purpose of the foundation isn’t a vanity project to get in, get the footage, and leave. Our team spends time in the area and gets involved in the rebuilding or activism required,” explained Jaie.
Meanwhile, fellow co-founder and Chairman, Joseph Michael Daniels, comes with a host of credentials suited to take Elixr to the next stage.
An awe-inspiring entrepreneur, Joseph was made homeless at 15 but went on to make the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
Having deployed the first net-zero connected buildings across four continents and raising £40 million upon founding Etopia, Joseph is also Special Advisor to BEIS construct zero for the British Government and Chair of the Decarbonisation and the Next Gen Board at the U.K. Business Council for Sustainable Development (UKBCSD).
The UKBCSD sits within the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) a global, CEOled organisation of over 200 leading businesses working together to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world.
Joining him on the UKBCSD Next Gen Board is Catalina, who too, comes with her own set of inspiring credentials.
Named Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 and Women of the Future 2023, Catalina has been recognised by the industry as an emerging leader in tech. She is also the youngest Senator to the World Business Angel Investment Forum and advises the $200 million Una Terra Impact Venture Capital Fund and The
British Youth Council, contributing to policy, fundraising, and communication.
As well as this, and building Elixr, Catalina is currently co-authoring a book with Professor Dr Ingrid Vasiliu-Feltes, an expert in AI, sustainability and ethics, exploring cross-generation collaboration in sustainability.
Keen to establish sustainability into the worldwide education system, Catalina is exploring two PHDs, one with a sustainable focus, the other psychology based, which will drive the creation of new global frameworks.
“The frameworks will aim to measure the impact of sustainable initiatives implemented. Collaborating with experts in psychology and neuroscience, ultimately I hope to build a bridge between the two PHDs to drive change in the education system,” said Catalina.
“I focussed my Masters dissertation on the lack of marketing and awareness in sustainability, looking at how we could steer future generations’ businesses to have an impact on a sustainable future. Elixr is born out of putting these learnings into practice,” she continued..
The primary focus for Elixr is sustainability, followed by ESG. Elixr’s businesses and co-founder will share their extensive and tech-focussed skills to encourage startups to consider how they can embed ESG practices from the early stages of business, rather than at a later stage which becomes economically unviable.
When speaking with her Elixr co-founders, Catalina was asked:
“Why do you think Gen-Z voices should be listened to more in business?”
“Why shouldn’t they?” she answered.

Naturally, this has been reflected in the results seen by Zadar Airport, Croatia’s fourth largest international airport, which has seen a 30% increase in passengers since prepandemic levels.
The airport can be found 11 kilometres from Zadar’s Old Town, known for its Roman and Venetian ruins. The area, on Croatia’s Adriatic coast, is surrounded by UNESCO World Heritage walls, which inside host over 30 historical churches.
As well as being steeped in history, Zadar is known for having hundreds of exceptional beaches, access to the nearby islands of Pag, Dugi otok, and Ugljan, as well as four national parks.
Zadar Airport boasts a high standard of passenger experience, with many amenities throughout. Services at the airport include free WiFi as well as the “Flying book" project. The project, run by Zadar Airport and Zadar Public Library, enables passengers to read and take books for free or leave a book they have finished.
In 2022, 18.9 million tourists visited Croatia, a significant increase on 2021, states Croatia’s tourism board.

LAURA WATLINGA restaurant and snack bar is available at the airport, as well as the all important Duty Free shop.
The airport facilitates international flights from many carriers, including Ryanair, Easyjet, Lufthansa, Transavia and Veuling.
In October 2022 the airport reached a notable milestone, welcoming its millionth passenger. The passenger, who travelled on a Ryanair flight from Brussels, was greeted by Zadar Airport CEO, Josip Klišmanić, who presented her with gifts and two return tickets from Zadar to a destination of her choice.
Having achieved ISO 14001: 2015 standard accreditation in 2021, the CEO has recently announced the business’ sustainability intentions.
“Zadar Airport is proud to announce that it is making a commitment to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, reduce electricity consumption and implement energy efficient solutions throughout the company’s operations,” Josip said in a statement released in April 2023, “Our plan is to systematically incorporate the environment and climate change aspect into consideration in all our activities, which will enable us to achieve our goalbecome an environmentally sustainable airport”.
Having recorded its busiest year on record in 2022, Zadar Airport is expecting to begin an expansion project valued at €100 million, commencing after the 2023 summer period.1
The project, which is planned to last ten years, will seek to cater for additional traffic and enable long haul flights, which includes building a new terminal building.
According to reports, the architectural design of the facility has been inspired by the pine forest surrounding the airport and will have a glass roof with solar panels, meeting its sustainability goals.
The new terminal plans to host nine gates, two baggage carousels, a baggage sorting facility, and the capacity to seat 1,480 passengers. The expansion will also see an overhaul and extension of the runway.
In addition, the organisation has plans to build a railway to the Gaženica port, increasing access to and from the airport.
There are plenty of upcoming events in Zadar, giving you cause to see what its airport has to offer.
For music lovers, the Zadar Sunset Festival takes place for the third year running, from July 31st to August 2nd 2023. Meanwhile, the Full Moon Festival, which is held the following week, gives visitors an opportunity to experience local cuisine.
The event, which takes place on the Zadar Riva, turns boats into floating markets, selling tuna and sardines from Kali, clams from Pašman and mussels from Novigrad, for example. Meanwhile, konobas (Croatia’s traditional cellars) serve everything from the renowned Ninski šokol, to figs, cheese, and local rakija.
Finally, for those looking to catch a sporting event, the 112 kilometre GranFondo Falkensteiner Borik cycle race gives participants the opportunity to experience all the sites of the Northern part of Zadar County. The event will be accompanied by a four-day cycling camp from 18th to 22nd October 2023.

PROJECT
DIRECTED BY: LEE NEWTON ARTICLE WRITTEN BY: LAURA WATLINGFormed by a growing “federation of entrepreneurs” who all believe in the power of building a worldwide consulting business, Argon & Co implement global best practices into its client’s operations.
Working with its clients across a wide spectrum of industries, Argon & Co supports them in building and implementing an operations strategy, ensuring to stay until transformation is delivered.
Argon & Co transforms the operations of its clients using its unique Assess Design Embed® approach, applied at each stage of a project to reduce risk and achieve better results, faster, and in a sustainable way.
“The whole team is passionate about adding value for our clients and seeing real change, whether that’s in a client's logistics, manufacturing, planning, procurement or sustainability measures,” explained Paul Eastwood, Managing Partner at Argon & Co.
Paul, who joined the business in 2022, in partnership with his consultancy firm, Pollen Consultancy Group, is helping Argon & Co to drive growth in the APAC region.
On joining Argon & Co, Paul said “Both Pollen and Argon & Co have the same company culture and values, and it means together we can turbo-charge our resources, capability and vision to build a leading global management consultancy specialising in operations strategy and transformation.”
Combining deep technical expertise, operational experience and broad business knowledge, Argon & Co are transforming businesses across the globe.
When it comes to growth, Paul is well experienced, taking Pollen from zero employees to 50 in five years, gaining recognition in the industry.
Now, with 500 people across 16 offices at Argon & Co, the consultancy has an ambition to grow to 1600 staff of changemakers by 2030.
“Part of our growth strategy is to widen our footprint. There is huge potential for us in the Middle East, where they are at the forefront of the cutting edge,” shared Paul, “It’s vital for us to be able to learn from innovations in burgeoning markets, which we can then implement to clients across the globe”.
Whilst Paul sees opportunities for growth in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, he also highlighted that the business will nurture its more mature markets in the UK, France and Australia.
“We have the opportunity for organic growth in these regions,” he said, “the pandemic and inflation pressure has created opportunities too, where clients have either built up a cash reserve to invest, or are looking for ways to reduce costs to ensure business longevity”.
Argon & Co consider themselves as an extension of their client’s teams.
“It’s important for us to challenge our clients when needed, but ultimately we strive to be engaging and enjoyable to work with,” shared Paul, “as an employer we give colleagues an environment where they can take big bets, enjoy what they do, and find success in failure. It’s not about the destination but how we get there”.
Growing through partnerships with global consultancies, Argon & Co is rigorous in ensuring new partners match the business’ values both internally and externally.
“When we find great people we love to get them on board, helping to protect and grow our culture,” said Paul.
Social Responsibility forms a core part of Argon & Co’s culture, utilising the business’ expertise to undertake charitable work.
“We’ve recently done some pro bono work for Red Nose Australia where one of our colleagues redesigned their clothes recycling process. This has allowed them to reinvest the money saved into other measures,” said Paul.
In Australia, Paul and his team have implemented several sustainable measures, which has helped them on the way to gaining its B Corp certification.
As well as creating a paperless office, providing reusable cups to staff, and utilising green energy, the Australian enterprise has offset all of its carbon by planting 5,500 trees to date.
“We aim to lead by example, so by implementing measures internally we set an example for clients,” explained Paul, “we’ve recently launched an iniatitive in measuring the sustainable impacts of all the projects we complete”.
Paul believes that AI and digitisation will have a positive impact on the business’ operations and growth, enabling it to cover more ground in the same or less time, whilst allowing easy access to knowledge sharing across the business.
“AI will enable us to add more value for clients, as well as accelerate data collection and cleansing. This will allow us more time to focus on people, as well as increase the speed of learning,” said Paul.
Most recently in Paul’s domain of ANZ, the business has launched a new service offering, Intralogistics, in partnership with Fuzzy LogX.
Intralogistics refers to the optimisation, integration, automation and management of the information and material flows within the four walls of a fulfilment or distribution centre.
Launched in June 2023, the new service offering will cover a number of subservices including: concept to go-live management, advanced analytics, process excellence benchmarking, warehouse management and control systems, and automation health check and rescue.
“The launch of Intralogistics as an additional service offering in APAC will add deep technical expertise to an area which is becoming increasingly relevant for our clients,” commented Paul.
He continued: “The addition of Fuzzy LogX and the recruitment of the Studio Logistics team in New Zealand brings an amazing depth of expertise in intralogistics. Combined with our own logistics, operations, and supply chain capabilities it means together we can turbo-charge our end-to-end offering, meeting our clients’ needs with market leading solutions”.
