IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) proudly announces a dynamic partnership with Hainan Airlines that offers a richly integrated travel experience across both air and land. The partnership brings to life the ‘IHG Explorer’, a branded aircraft featuring bespoke business class dining options, amplified member benefits and a creative co-branded safety video. IHG is one of the first international hotel companies to enter the Chinese market and it remains committed to an ‘in China, for China’ business approach, prioritising the development of the Chinese market with a focus on providing a localised ‘True Hospitality for Good’, building hotel brands beloved by guests, and delivering outstanding returns for owners and shareholders. Together, IHG and Hainan Airlines are reimagining travel by incorporating diverse cultural elements into guests’ journeys, while driving the development of tourism through personalised experiences.

Redefining Air Travel with Surprises and Innovation

The partnership has seen the debut of the ‘IHG Explorer’ aircraft, which represents the ongoing commitment of both companies to deliver delightful

travel experiences that are full of surprises for passengers. The fuselage of the ‘IHG Explorer’ is painted with IHG’s iconic deep blue colour, marking the first time that Hainan Airlines has launched a fully themed aircraft with a hotel group. The cabin’s overhead luggage compartment is decked with custom decals visible throughout whilst the business class section is adorned with tailored lumbar pillows co-created by the HUALUXE brand and Chinese artist Chen Jiu – immersing travellers in charming Chinese aesthetics as they enjoy the comfort of 180-degree reclining seats.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN OPENS ITS NEW FLAGSHIP STORE IN SEOUL

Paris Saint-Germain inaugurates a new iconic boutique in Seoul, following the opening of its first outlet in the country in 2019. Propelled by its surging popularity in South Korea, the club strengthens its ties with an increasingly large fan community by offering them unique experiences.

A new store and an exclusive local collaboration with Soundshop Balansa

The Paris Saint-Germain’s new flagship store spans three levels, including a café space where visitors can dine while exploring exclusive collections and items showcasing the club in pure, culturally inspired South Korean-themed spaces. Tshirts, bandanas, keychains, pins, caps, and beanies from the collaboration with the South Korean brand Soundshop Balansa will be exclusively available, and in limited edition, at Paris Saint-Germain stores in the country. The three-level boutique is located in the Apgujeong district at 12 Seolleung-ro 157-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The top floor of the building houses a VIP space.

A private inauguration event for local influencers will take place on March 8th, providing a unique moment between the club and several personalities, including one of the most iconic legends of the club, Jay-Jay Okocha.

A dedicated pop-up store for exclusive collections will open its doors on March 9th at the Starfield Hanam shopping center, located at 750 Misa-daero, Hanamsi, Gyeonggi-do in Seoul.

Subsequently, on March 10th, the brandnew Paris Saint-Germain store in the Apgujeo neighborhood will officially open to the public and host the broadcast of the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Reims. On this occasion, the club will pay tribute to its Korean community by offering a special Korean-language jersey with a floral motif. This exclusive jersey will be available for purchase on store.psg.fr and in Paris Saint-Germain stores starting from March 8, 2024.

The opening of these spaces, including a large-scale store, responds to the increasing enthusiasm of South Korean supporters for Paris Saint-Germain. With the arrival of Kang-In Lee, Paris SaintGermain has witnessed a rising interest from fans in South Korea, positioning the club as the 2nd most followed football club in the country with over 24,000 subscribers on X. The construction of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was a monumental task, marked by intricate challenges and groundbreaking solutions. Mace, the construction contractor responsible for bringing the vision to life, embarked on this project with a commitment to excellence and innovation.

"The logistical and engineering challenges were immense, from the sliding pitch to integrating the historic Warmington House into the stadium design," shared Gareth Lewis, CEO for

Construction at Mace. Despite these obstacles, the team's dedication and the use of advanced building techniques ensured the project's success.

One of the key challenges was constructing the stadium without disrupting the daily life of the local community. "We worked closely with the residents and the council to minimize our impact on the area, implementing noise and traffic management plans that respected the community's needs," Lewis added.

Beyond the excitement of match days, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been a catalyst for the regeneration of North London. The development has sparked significant investment in the area, leading to new housing, schools, and public spaces.

The project has indeed delivered on this vision, with the club's foundation running numerous programs focused on education, employment, and health and well-being for the local residents.

The stadium has also become a hub for local businesses, drawing visitors from around the world and boosting the local economy. "The impact on our business has been phenomenal. Match days bring a buzz to the area that we've never seen before," shared a local business owner.

Environmental sustainability was a core principle in the stadium's design and construction. "We aimed to set a benchmark for green building practices in large-scale developments," said Lee from Populous. The stadium boasts

Moreover, the stadium's construction utilized recycled materials, and efforts were made to preserve and enhance local biodiversity. "Integrating sustainable practices was a challenge, but it was a priority for us and the club," added Lewis from Mace.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is poised for further development, with plans to expand its role as a multi-purpose venue. "This is just the beginning. We're exploring ways to host more events and activities that can benefit the community and the club," Levy revealed. From concerts and conferences to community events, the stadium is set to become a year-round destination.

Furthermore, the club is committed to continuing its work in the community, building on the positive changes the stadium has already brought about. "We see ourselves as part of the fabric of North London, and we're dedicated to contributing to its growth and well-being," Levy stated.

In 2018, GlobalData’s Retail Banking Survey highlighted the importance of Net Promoter Score (NPS) in supporting customer acquisition.

The research indicated that 44% of millennials chose their current mortgage provider due to a recommendation from friends and families. 37% took out their most recent loan for the same reason.

In addition, the survey identified three positive sentiments that promoters had in common: being easy to deal with, helpful staff, and trust.

Demonstrating its commitment to delivering a high standard of service to its customers, and achieving the above sentiments, is Yorkshire Building Society (YBS), which has recently increased its NPS to 61.

Whilst the member-owned building society has been in business for 150 years, it recognises that moving with the times is integral to adding value for all of its customers.

“Our lateral thinking approach, underpinned by extensive customer research, has given us a clear understanding of customer needs across the demographics. This is what sets us apart from competitors, and helps us to form our transformation strategy,” explained Ben.

While over 1000 highstreet bank branches closed in 2022 and 20232, YBS has made a commitment to branches, retaining the building society’s heritage whilst modernising the processes in branch.

Meanwhile, it has made significant investments into its mobile experience, which in the last four years has resulted in an increase of 12% to up to 80% of customers opening accounts digitally.

“Undertaking robust customer research has enabled us to invest into the business in the right way. This has paid off as we’ve seen the balance sheet almost double to £61 billion, a savings growth of 200%, and the ability to meet niche customer needs” said Ben.

Conquering Challenges

Research by Statista shows that over 54% of global organisations asked are experiences a skills shortage3, it is believed that by 2030 a predicted talent shortage of 85 million could result in about $8.5 trillion in unrealised annual revenues4

“A shortage in tech talent is one of our biggest challenges at the moment, as we’re all fighting for the same pool of talent, as well as how do we attract, nurture and retain that talent” shared Ben.

Whilst Ben believes that YBS offers an exciting, national opportunity for prospective employees to work for a business that is purpose driven, the building society is also taking steps to bolster attraction through its purpose.

“We are offering apprenticeships into tech roles, which fulfils our value of social inclusion, whilst also helping to drive the business forward,” explained Ben, “the

new world of technology offers plenty of opportunities for businesses to lean into,” he continued.

Ben sees opportunity in the integration of AI, which he believes will help to create greater efficiencies in sentiment tracking, whilst also offering a more personalised service to customers.

“Ultimately, integration of new technology has to be at the benefit of our customers, and AI offers a really exciting opportunity in terms of customer experience. This won’t be at the detriment to our people though, as we still need amazing people to deliver to our members,” shared Ben.

From an employee perspective, Ben believes that the integration of technology such as AI could help with the tech talent shortage, by lowering barriers to entry and supporting employees in their roles.

“We need to ensure we get this integration correct from the start, to ensure we remain trustworthy to our customers,” Ben added.

Gorda mine announced last year that it is now operating with 100% renewable energy.

The mine, located in Chile, operates on copper-molybdenum deposits, comprising both sulphide copper ore as well as oxide copper ore. On a daily basis 115,000 tons of ore is processed, producing 108,000 tons of copper annually. Starting production in 2014, the mine has planned life of 20 years.

The latest and most effective technological solutions are implemented in production processes, following the current trends in the mining industry.

One of the mine’s main objectives has been to minimise any potential impact on communities and the environment, and the implementation of its renewable production is part of the company’s sustainability objectives, representing the removal of around 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year

Sierra Gorda operates with the use of seawater from the cooling systems of a power plant in the town of Mejillones. Instead of being recycled to the sea, the water is pumped to the mine through a 144 km pipeline.

The next steps for the mine will be to use100% renewable electrical energy in the operation.

Speaking of the mine’s achievements in implementing renewable energy, General Manager, Tomasz Piwowarczyk stated:

“Our company shows that it is possible to do green and efficient mining with a low grade like ours and develop production in a sustainable way. We are happy to share this great news that comes three years after starting our parcelled supply of green energy, and that today already has us with 100% energy from renewable sources. Thanks to this, the copper and molybdenum that we produce is greener, since it contains a smaller carbon footprint.” 1

Taking on the role of General Manager at Sierra Gorda in October 2023, his appointment signals a further step forward in innovative strategies for the mine.

With an average ore grade of less than 0.4% (compared to an industry average of 0.8%), and an unfavorable ballast-ore ratio. Sierra Gorda is continually incorporating new technologies to improve its management and enabling it to adjust to changing environmental conditions.

“We are constantly searching for technologies that lead us towards a safer, more sustainable and efficient operation,” said Tomasz.

Its use of 100% seawater throughout the production process without desalination results in the surface of the tailings deposit becoming naturally covered by a saline crust.

This “represents a great advantage, since when dry, this material hardens and

SierraBotisaroboticoperatorincharge ofinventory,whichperformsa‘cycle

count’ with the exact location of each material. This has allowed the business to reduce the time allocated to the task of accounting for Stock Codes from 12 hours to 12 minutes. At the same time this reduces the risk of material handling, improving safety performance and obtaining greater productivity in its processes.

Veracio’s TruScan solution promises to enhance information quality by swiftly delivering a blend of intelligent high-resolution data streams to Sierra Gorda SCM geologists. These streams encompass wet and dry drill core photos, geochemistry via array-calibrated XRF (X-ray fluorescence) obtained through a continuous, automated, high-speed scanning service, with all data processed and analyzed within 24 hours.

Moreover, the solution incorporates AIassisted digital logging utilizing cloud software and processing technologies. Furthermore, it expedites structural

Sierra Gorda recently received environmental approval for its Updating the Tailings Deposit and Annexed Facilities project which modifies the plan of the deposit. The project will see an investment of around $400 million.

The aim of the project is to optimise tailings management by reducing the height of the walls that surround the enclosure to improve its stability, reduce the movement of material, increase the evaporation rate, and minimise filtrations.

Now, Sierra Gorda is preparing a feasibility study to install a fourth grinding line to boost throughput by 18% to 58Mt/y, with completion projected for June 2024.

55% owned by KGHM, and 45% by South32, the latter shareholder aims to increase its investment into Sierra Gorda from US$14 million to US$210 million. It has also indicated that by the end of this year the mine will reach a processing capacity of 130,000t/d.

EXPANSION TO SEE DRC COPPER COMPLEX BECOME THIRD LARGEST IN THE WORLD

By land area, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the second-largest country in Africa, and the 11th largest in the world. Across this landmass is a copperbelt of around 70 kilometres wide and 250 kilometres long.

There are 72 economic deposits of copper/cobalt and four large mining centres. Taken together, the DRC and Zambia copper belts are the second largest global reserve of copper, about one-third the size of the Chilean reserve.

Producing around 63% of the world’s cobalt, the second biggest copper producer after Chile, the DRC copper belt includes some of the highest-grade copper deposits in the world1

Starting production in 2021, the Kamoa Kukula Copper Complex (Kamoa Copper) based in the DRC, produced 393,551 tonnes of copper concentrate in 2023.

Kamoa Copper’s 2023 production achievement represents a year-over-

year increase of 18%. The 2024 annual production guidance for Kamoa-Kakula is estimated at between 440,000 to 490,000 tonnes of copper in concentrate, following the anticipated completion of the Phase 3 concentrator during the third quarter of 2024.

The phased expansion is projected to make Kamoa-Kakula the third-largest copper complex globally.

Phase 3 will increase Kamoa Copper’s annual copper production to a ten-year average of 650,000 tonnes of copper. The expansion includes the commissioning of a 500,000-tonneper-annum on-site, direct-to-blister copper smelter and refurbishment of Turbine #5 at the Inga II hydroelectric facility.

“Kamoa Copper has taken a very low risk approach to how we manage our tailings and aim to meet or exceed global good practice for safe tailings management,” said Ben.

Kamoa Copper plans to minimise the surface storage and management of tailings from its mining operations by storing it underground in the mined-out workings.

“The mine has a relatively small environment-footprint because approximately half of the tailings will be mixed with cement and pumped back underground to fill voids and help support the underground mining infrastructure,” Ben added.

Further to the mine’s tailings management, Kamoa Copper understands that limiting the environmental impact and the carbon footprint of its mining operations is key to mitigating the effects of climate change. To support the continued successful

performance of its mining complex, Kamoa Copper has signed a publicpartnership with DRC’s state-owned power company La Société Nationale d’Electricité to secure clean, renewable hydro-generated electricity.

“Securing sustainable, long-term electricity is essential in the development of Kamoa Copper into one of the world’s largest copper mines,” said Ben.

In addition, Kamoa Copper has pledged to incorporate state-of-the-art equipment powered by electric batteries or hydrogen fuel cells into its mining fleet, replacing diesel-powered equipment.

Commitment to Education

Ensuring Kamoa Copper’s commitment to build a sustainable legacy in the DRC, it also employs a range of social initiatives to help develop the communities in which it operates.

One such initiative is contributing to successful food-production activities in

nearby communities by uplifting smallscale farmers and enabling them to increase their production capacity.

“This is laying the foundation for increased commercial farming and setting an example for future generations,” shared Ben.

The initiatives include maize production, fruit and vegetable production, fish farming, poultry farming and honey production.

In addition, the business has launched an agronomy school to offer training and research facilities to local farmers. Plans are also underway for a collaboration between the agronomy school and the University of Kolwezi, which will provide further practical training for the students.

“The long-term vision is to continue to expand all of these projects and to diversify into other business opportunities, such as agro-processing,” said Ben

two operational crews for the Kansoko Mine trained and deployed. A total of 194 trainees were equipped with skills, including tele-handler, agitator truck and utility vehicle training.

Most recently, Kamoa Copper has established the Kamoa Centre of Excellence, with the first phase of students enrolling in 2023.

Established in 2020 and now with an annual turnover in the millions, some may look at Lumi Therapy and consider the business an overnight success. But, behind this trailblazer in the sports therapy and wellness industry, is an entrepreneur who has been honing his business acumen for almost 20 years.

CEO of Lumi Therapy, Gavin Teague’s journey started at just 20 years old, when his parents loaned him £5000 to buy a mobile phone shop. Gavin turned this small, independent shop, into a large scale business, and proving his forward-thinking nature early on, became the only shop in the area at the time to be able to repair iPhones.

“Whilst the phone shop was a success, my next move was ahead of its time,” said Gavin, explaining the phone shop’s transition to a bagel shop, “I was in a local town in Devon which wasn’t quite ready to move on from pasties and fish and chips. But failure is such an important part of the journey”.

Throughout his career as an entrepreneur, Gavin has established a spectrum of businesses, from a leggings brand, to indestructible eyewear, several online startups, and a magnetic wallet which secured to the back of an iphone.

“I launched a kickstarter for the wallet about 15 years ago and it completely failed. About five years ago another business launched the same product which is now sold by Apple itself. Timing is everything,” Gavin shared, “Sometimes it doesn’t mean an idea has failed, it’s just that the timing wasn’t right and the luck wasn’t there”.

With Lumi hitting the sweet spot of timing, Gavin has been able to take a step back, and is keen to get back to the “grass roots” of entrepreneurship.

“I know how difficult it is to secure funding, especially if you’re not based in a major city. I’m keen to work with young entrepreneurs, not only investing financially where it feels appropriate, but also offering free advice and guidance,” he said.

“It’s Not That Deep”

“A lot of entrepreneurs believe their business has to have a purpose. My purpose is first and foremost to be an entrepreneur. I’ve got lucky that Lumi has a purpose and a huge wellbeing impact on our customers,” shared Gavin.

Starting the business with a range of massage guns three years ago, Lumi Therapy struck gold with its timing. In 2023, the global wellness market was valued at over $5.3 trillion, with a growth rate of 10% per year through to 2025. In the UK, the sector is estimated to achieve £30.6 billion in 20231

Now, Lumi’s flagship product is its range of portable ice baths, which Gavin developed himself.

Gavin, who has long been in the health and wellness space, owning his own yoga studio, was seeking alternative therapies for stress management and anxiety.

“I wanted to try an ice bath after watching a Wim Hof (motivational speaker and extreme athlete known for the Wim Hof Method of breathing) show,” explained Gavin, “the problem was, I didn’t have £8000 to invest in an ice bath”.

So, like any entrepreneur worth their salt, Gavin set about developing an affordable ice bath suitable for beginners and athletes alike.

“I’ve always been very passionate about having a non-bullshit approach, and so I set about trialing the ice bath I built for 365 days myself, and from our simple product, the benefits I found were profound,” he said, “ultimately, we want cold water therapy to be accessible to as many people as possible. It doesn’t have to be extreme, it's not that deep”.

Lumi wants their customers to understand the science behind cold water therapy, and that the positive impacts happen within the first 30 seconds of submersion at just 10 degrees. Anything beyond that point is a personal challenge set by the user.

Gavin highlighted the impact of social media on the business success, noting that its baths have become a viral product.

“Using an ice bath is a very shareable moment, it’s an achievement which users want to post to their social media, and that has certainly positively impacted our success,” he said.

A Full Package of Accessible Products

Lumi’s range of ice baths are fully-portable insulated pods, incorporating 3 layers of thermal insulated TPE protection that helps to keep the water at a steady temperature. The baths also come with the Lumi Thermo insulated Lid and All weather cover.

As well as a range of sizes to suit individual needs, Lumi also offers a PRO range, targeted at professional athletes. Not to mention, its limited edition Aquaman bath, inspired by the upcoming film.

Gavin is excited to announce the launch of Lumi’s ProRobe Duo, which will be coming to market in January 2024.

“Drying robes haven’t seen any innovation since they first came to market, so Lumi are here to change that,” shared Gavin, “our ProRobe Dup has been designed to incorporate drying technology, along with features from hiking and climbing jackets, and has utility purposes. Like we’ve done for our baths, we’re going to carve the way for drying robes, and it's a very exciting launch for the business”.

With Lumi’s business well established, Gavin has been able to take a step back from a direct leadership role, acknowledging that his passion is best placed creatively.

“I thought I'd be fantastic at running a team until I found it very emotional. I’m trying to build a business with some core values that don't align with my own stress. So now we have a General Manager in place, whilst I’m able to provide more guidance to the role,” Gavin explained with honesty.

Enhance your Milan stay with IHG’s latest upgrade

Thanks to investment from the city council, Milan city has undergone radical transformation over the last few years, enabling increased trade and diversification in the region.

The investment has seen core development of the city as well as the urban areas, transport and sustainability, which has improved the region for tourists as well as the Milanese.

Its diversification has seen the Italian city develop from a region known for business, to one which is now attractive to tourists, too.

From its renowned Milan Fashion Weeks, to the world’s most popular pop stars, such as Taylor Swift, hosting concerts, and major sporting events including the 95th Edition of the F1 Italian Grand Prix in 2024, Milan is increasingly becoming a place to explore.

“One of the USPs of the hotel is that we have secure parking for our guests, something which can be difficult to find in cities such as ours,” explained Fabio.

As part of the hotel’s continued improvement, it is hoped that within the next year electrical charging points for EVs will be installed. The electricity will be generated from solar panels on the hotel's roof which are already being used to support the hotel's energy usage.

Following IHG’s sustainability initiative, Green Engage, the Crowne Plaza Milan City has taken the steps to ensure sustainable tourism at the hotel, by measuring and reducing its energy, water, and waste consumption.

In recognition of its efforts, the Crowne Plaza Milan City has also been certified by Dream & Charme. The independent certification guarantees the characteristics of the hotel comply with those described on its website, providing guests with greater reliability. In addition, it ensures the application of the main ESG requirements defined by international standards on sustainable tourism.

“We are delighted to become Dream & Charme certified, and we hope this will support the hotel’s growth,” said Fabio.

In 2023, the hotel saw 89% occupancy overall, which Fabio considers to be largely due to the impact of the increased tourism in the region. However, it is hoped that the continued renovations and improvements of the hotel will also see the footfall grow.

Unique Facilities in an Urban Setting

A unique offering for a Milan city centre hotel, in May 2023, the Crowne Plaza Milan City officially launched its outdoor swimming pool. In the same year, it used the facility to host its 15th anniversary celebrations, proving the versatility of its offering.

“The outdoor swimming pool has been a great success with guests of the hotel. With the lounge and bar adjacent to the pool, it has become a popular spot for hosting events, too,” shared Fabio.

Now, the hotel is further uplifting the area, creating a green path leading towards the pool and remodelling the terrace area. Plus, a full renovation of the courtyard will see more capacity for events.

Towards the end of 2024, Crowne Plaza Milan City hopes to unveil the revamp of its lobby and restaurant, which will see the area receive an updated contemporary and elegant design

“Highlighting the hotels ability to serve both business and leisure guests, the redesigned lobby and restaurant will focus on creating spaces and atmosphere for socialisation, which whilst open, will feel intimate, where both businessmen and leisure travellers can feel comfortable in,” explained Fabio.

The bar and restaurant area will benefit with extra space after the current patio is converted into an indoor area with a glass wall overlooking the garden. Additionally, the hotel is planning to modernise its guest rooms, updating the wallpaper and lighting, and bedroom and bathroom surfaces.

“As well as this, in line with our sustainable programme, we have replaced single use toiletries in all rooms for a more sustainable option,” shared Fabio.

A State-of-the-Art Facility

For those planning to travel to Milan for business (or a mix of business and pleasure!) the Crowne Plaza Milan City has plenty to offer, with business facilities spanning 2000 square feet over four meeting rooms, as well as a business centre accessible to all.

Its meeting facilities offer state of the art equipment for hosting meetings, presentations, and training. A refurbishment of this part of the hotel will see fresh carpets and wallpaper, in addition to new furnishing and technical equipment.

“Once the refurbishment of the meeting space is complete, it will be an exemplary space for our business guests,” said Fabio.

And if technology is something you're looking for in a hotel, the Crowne Plaza Milan City has incorporated this into its rooms.

“Our gym offers lots of classes such as pilates and yoga. However, if guests want to remain in the comfort of their room, we’ve incorporated a QR code which allows them to participate from their room,” shared Fabio.

When all renovations are completed, 2025 is set to see the hotel be one of the most modernised in the city, offering guest comfort, style, technology, and its unwavering commitment to service.
