With three matches left to go of the 2023-2024 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain have been crowned French champions for the twelfth time. The Red & Blues have now won the 50th trophy in their history.
Unbeaten since September and in 26 matches in Ligue 1 since September 2023 (one match away from the Club's longest unbeaten run in the league), Paris Saint-Germain are now XX points clear of second-placed Monaco and can no longer be caught. On Matchday 31, Captain Marquinhos (who this year broke the record for the number of matches played in a Paris shirt) and his team-mates thus clinch the 12th French league title in the Club's history, following those of 1986, 1994, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023. With just one defeat in their first 30 matches, they've matched their achievements of 2013-2014 and 2015-2016.
Les Rouge & Bleu have helped the club reach the symbolic milestone of 50 trophies, 32 of which have been won since Qatar Sports Investments took over in 2011. Over that period, the Parisians have achieved the exceptional feat of finishing top of Ligue 1 on ten occasions.
It is the second title of the 2023-2024 season for France's most successful club, following the Trophée des Champions win over Toulouse (2-0) at the Parc des
Princes on 3rd January. Champions of France 2023-2024, Champions League semi-finalists (against Borussia Dortmund on 1st and 7th May) and Coupe de France finalists (against Olympique Lyonnais on 25th May), Luis Enrique's men are still in contention in all the competitions in which they were involved at the start of the season.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, President of Paris Saint-Germain:
“Winning the league is fantastic, but to win Ligue 1 for the 12th time makes it even more special for everyone connected to Paris Saint-Germain.
Congratulations to all the players, our coach Luis Enrique and his staff, Luis Campos and his sports department, and everyone at the Club. Since the very beginning of the season, the team has been so collective and united. I will also never forget the fans, who have been amazing whatever the result. We will treasure this moment together as a family. And also continue to work hard, match by match, until the last moment of the season.”

“Steel builds nations, and for Oman it’s a catalyst towards achieving Oman 2040 Vision,” shared Harssha.
Part of this development includes the expansion of its facilities to include an additional steel mill and a Flat rolling mill, with a target to produce Six million tonnes of steel per annum in Sohar.
By adopting advanced technologies in its production processes and being on the forefront of Operational effeciencies JSIS produces some of the lowest carbon footprint steels, emitting less than 1.5 tonnes ( scope 1,2,3) of CO2 per tonne of steel. This is significantly lower — compared to the industry average, which emits 2.3 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of steel. We have recently launched Wire rods and Rounds with carbon footprint of less than 0.9 tonnes co2/tonne steel on primary clean steel grades. We are not waiting for 2030 to decarbonize, mother earth needs all of us to decarbonize NOW.
Inspiration from JSIS extends far beyond its production technologies, with the business being certified as a ‘Great Place to Work’ by Great Place to Work®.
A globally recognised accolade, which is based on feedback by employees, the award demonstrates JSIS’s commitment to nurturing a workplace culture that is both inspiring and rewarding for its employees.
Cultivating an environment of safety and wellbeing, JSIS has garnered respect for the business from its employees, with an increase in the engagement score from 77% (April 2023) to 82% (November 2023).
“This recognition reflects our collective effort in establishing a thriving ecosystem at JSIS, where employee well-being, trust, pride, and enjoyment are paramount,” shared Harssha.
Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, JSIS recognises the importance of people, both internally to the business and in the regions in which it works.
JSIS takes its role as a good corporate citizen seriously and has adopted a strategic approach to social sustainability. With a focus on youth and sports, the steel maker has made long-term investments in sports development centres across OMAN for football in association with Oman Football association. Also, JSIS is working on plans to build Youth Skills training centres to make globally competent professionals from the young and enthusiastic Local Omani youth pool. “About 64% of Oman’s population is under 29 years old, so we have a fantastic opportunity to develop Youth with nerves of steel,” said Harssha.

Incorporated in 1946, DTB is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya and has operated in East Africa for over 75 years, with presence also in Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi. Supporting this growth is DTB’s Digital Transformation Strategy, guided by the vision to transform into a technology company with a banking license. Under the dynamic leadership of its Chief Operating Officer, Jamie Loden, the Bank established its digital factory, DTBX, in 2022, encompassing a fusion of its six key pillars: the development of digital applications, a digital banking platform, digital partnerships, data analytics & AI, and cloud computing; all of which are underpinned by people, working in harmony to create an ecosystem that thrives on innovation.
“With DTBX, we are embracing more agile ways of working and positioning DTB as the digital bank of choice, where our partners can achieve that X-factor product that will enable them to achieve X times growth,” explained Jamie.
A groundbreaking element of the Bank’s strategy is the introduction of Banking as a Service (BaaS) through its flagship API platform, Astra. This move has opened doors to dynamic collaborations with tech-enabled entities such as fintechs, edtechs and healthtechs, allowing them to leverage DTB’s expertise and infrastructure, and extend innovative financial solutions to their own customers.
“With Astra, we’re not just providing APIs, we are empowering fintechs to thrive by enabling them to provide financial solutions that cater to the unique needs of their customers. We are also shifting from a B2B model to B2B2C model,” shared James.
By becoming the bridge between banking and technology, DTB is accelerating the development of revolutionary fintech products and services, positioning themselves as an innovative hub that nurtures collaboration and propels tech-driven innovation. Currently, Astra has 150 tech-enabled companies in its pipeline, spanning financial services, education, and health services. “The network of businesses we’re partnering with highlights the depth and richness of the tech scene in East Africa,” highlighted Jamie.
Another proposition of DTBX is Infiniti Pay, an end-to-end SME solution with a focus on empowering small and mediumsized enterprises through automation of their business financial needs and providing access to a curated ecosystem that caters to their unique requirements.
“Infiniti Pay underscores our commitment to addressing the evolving needs of our customers, and our dedication to foster financial inclusion and drive economic growth,” added Jamie.
Putting the needs of customers first, DTBX will also launch a ‘Chama’ product, allowing members to contribute to a group savings initiative. A ‘chama’ is a popular term used to describe informal groups in Kenya, where people come together for a common purpose to save money or invest their funds.
“This product has been built specifically around culture, with people in Kenya keen to work collaboratively to build for the future,” said Jamie.
To achieve their transformative goals, DTB is investing not only in technology but also in its most valuable asset – its people. By attracting top talent and providing training and upskilling opportunities to their existing staff, the bank is cultivating a workforce equipped with the skills to navigate the ever-changing landscape of technology-driven banking.
“We recognise that human capital is the key to the success of this evolution, and with the growth of digitisation and fintech, we have a fantastic opportunity to upskill people in Kenya for the future. Our new digital team will undergo an educational programme equipping them with skills in cloud computing and software engineering, for example,” explained Jamie.
This will support the development of new products designed to support the agriculture and education sectors. “There are some unique needs for businesses in these sectors in Africa, and they are hugely important to each country’s national economy,” Jamie continued.

ARTICLE WRITTEN BY: LAURA WATLING
One country which can attest to this belief is the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, which in September 2023 saw further protests due to water shortages in the country.
Attributing the shortages to climate change and decreased rainfall, Trinidad and Tobago’s Water and Sewage Authority (WASA) is implementing short, medium, and long-term measures to tackle the problem.
Supporting WASA is the Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Desalcott), which supplies 48 million US gallons of desalinated water per day.
“Since the desalination plant was launched in 1999 we have produced 296 billion US gallons. By June 2024 we will reach 300 billion gallons which may be a world record for reverse osmosis desalination,” shared John Thompson, General Manager. This achievement will also tie in with Desalcott’s 25th anniversary.
With these numbers in mind, Desalcott is supplying as much as 25% of the nation’s water.
Producing 24/7, the desalination plant in Point Lisas is one of the world’s largest, with 98% on line supply time with 100% attainment of quality standards.
Using its state of the art facilities, R&D innovations have become a focal point of the operations as the plant addresses the challenges of sustainable development, compounded with climatic changes.
Desalcott utilises its ability to re-engineer the plant when conditions change through research and development using an on-site pilot plant, debottlenecking, re-tooling and optimisation to maintain sustainability of supply.
“As one of the first major plants to successfully use reverse osmosis for water desalination, our processes have been replicated around the world,” said John.
The process of reverse osmosis operates by pushing saltwater under high pressure through a semipermeable membrane, the pores of which are too small for the salt molecules to pass through, which is also enhanced through an ionic rejection effect.
With climate change affecting both the availability and quality of naturally sourced water in Trinidad and Tobago (with unprecedented surges in bacteria, algae, organics and other nutrients from the Amazon-Orinoco Basin), Desalcott are aware of the positive impact they can make by employing sustainable measures into its operations.
Highlighting its efforts, the business has received International Recognition of Environmental Stewardship with UNEP for its sustainable practices, care, and protection of the environment.
The plant uses the “4R” approach (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover) as highlighted by UNEP for water and energy conservation.
During the process of desalination, salt is extracted from the input water. Rather than returning the brine straight
back into the water course, Desalcott combines the brine with hard-water outsourced from other industrial plants.
“Apart from reducing the heat of the industrial plant’s discharge this means the water we return is of a very similar salinity to that which we take out,” explained John, “we are also able to recycle some water and return it back as intake to the RO system”.
Additionally, waste silt from the process has been trialled in the production of fruit and vegetables, something which John would like to see expanded on. The waste silt is currently being used as a cover for landfill.
Whilst reverse osmosis can be less expensive than other methods of desalination, Desalcott employs other efficiencies, such as using AC variable frequency drives rather than control valves and energy recovery turbines.
We are the sole International Professional Partner Firm as awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute, United Kingdom.

As well as drinking water, deionised industrial water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities, Desalcott offers its OEM expertise and technology throughout the water sector, especially in environmentally challenging situations.
The World Green Building Council has highlighted that the freshwater crisis is now as urgent as making the transition to zero carbon. In its review it predicts that by 2030 there will be a 40% gap between fresh water supply and demand.
With this in mind, there is plenty of potential for Descalott to broaden its footprint.
John has identified that there is opportunity to expand the operations via smaller plants across Trinidad and Tobago, as well as prospects in the wider Caribbean.
With water scarcity impacting many countries in the Middle East due to limited rainfall and high temperatures, desalination of seawater is considered a crucial strategy to meet demand.
“Water scarcity in the Middle East is impacting food security in the region, which is on many governmental agendas. There is opportunity for Desalcott to extend its expertise here, too,” explained John.
With the benefits and efficiencies of reverse osmosis desalination plants becoming clearer, these particular plants are increasing “exponentially”, said John.
“Desalcott is at the forefront of reverse osmosis desalination at a commercial scale, and we are delighted to offer our expertise wherever it’s needed,” he added.

One of the most significant steps Atlas Leisure Homes took towards sustainability was in the realm of material innovation. Traditional construction materials used in the leisure home industry often have a high carbon footprint and contribute to environmental degradation. Atlas Leisure Homes began exploring alternative, eco-friendly materials that could offer the same durability, aesthetic appeal, and luxury without compromising on sustainability.
The brand started incorporating recycled, reclaimed, and sustainably sourced materials into its designs. This included using reclaimed wood, recycled plastics, eco-friendly insulations, and low-impact finishing materials. Additionally, Atlas Leisure Homes adopted modular construction techniques and prefabrication methods that minimise waste, optimised material usage, and reduced construction time and costs. These innovative approaches not only reduced the environmental impact but also enhanced the quality, durability, and longevity of their leisure homes.
Energy consumption is another critical aspect of sustainability in the leisure home industry. Traditional leisure homes often rely heavily on non-renewable energy sources, leading to increased carbon emissions, energy costs, and environmental impact. Atlas Leisure Homes tackled this challenge head-on by prioritising energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions in their designs.
The brand integrated solar panels, energy-efficient appliances, smart home technologies, and advanced insulation systems into their leisure homes. These features not only reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions but also allowed homeowners to monitor and control their energy usage effectively. By embracing renewable energy solutions, promoting energy conservation, and optimising building design and orientation for passive solar heating and cooling, Atlas Leisure Homes significantly lowered the carbon footprint of their products while offering homeowners sustainable and cost-effective living solutions.
Water scarcity is a growing concern globally, making water conservation a crucial aspect of sustainability. Atlas Leisure Homes recognized the importance of responsible water management and incorporated watersaving technologies and practices into their designs.
The brand introduced rainwater harvesting systems, greywater recycling, efficient plumbing fixtures, and water-efficient landscaping solutions in their leisure homes. These measures helped reduce water consumption significantly, ensuring that homeowners could enjoy luxurious living without excessive water wastage. Atlas Leisure Homes also educated their customers about the importance of water conservation and provided them with practical tips, tools, and technologies to minimise water usage in their daily lives.
Apart from transforming their products and practices, Atlas Leisure Homes also focused on community engagement, education, and advocacy as part of their sustainability journey. The brand organised workshops, seminars, educational programs, and sustainability tours to raise awareness about sustainability among their employees, partners, suppliers, and customers.
Atlas Leisure Homes collaborated with environmental organisations, universities, research institutions, and industry associations to foster innovation, knowledge sharing, and best practices in sustainable leisure home design, construction, and operation. By engaging with the community, promoting a culture
of sustainability, and advocating for eco-friendly practices and policies, Atlas Leisure Homes inspired and empowered others to adopt sustainable lifestyles, contribute to environmental conservation, and drive positive change in the leisure home industry and beyond.
The sustainability transformation of Atlas Leisure Homes serves as a shining example of how industry leaders can drive positive change, innovate, and make a significant impact on environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. By embracing material innovation, energy efficiency, water conservation, community engagement, and education, Atlas Leisure Homes has redefined luxury living, set
new industry standards, and inspired others to prioritise eco-friendly practices, adopt sustainable technologies, and contribute to a greener, healthier, and more resilient future for all.
As Atlas Leisure Homes continues on its sustainability journey, exploring new technologies, materials, and practices, the brand remains committed to its core values of innovation, quality, customer satisfaction, and sustainability. By integrating sustainability into its brand ethos, business strategy, and product offerings, Atlas Leisure Homes continues to lead the way towards a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for the leisure home industry, its customers, communities, and the planet.

minerals during the milling process.
“Kamoa Copper has taken a very low risk approach to how we manage our tailings and aim to meet or exceed global good practice for safe tailings management,” said Ben.
Kamoa Copper plans to minimise the surface storage and management of tailings from its mining operations by storing it underground in the mined-out workings.
“The mine has a relatively small environment-footprint because approximately half of the tailings will be mixed with cement and pumped back underground to fill voids and help support the underground mining infrastructure,” Ben added.
Further to the mine’s tailings management, Kamoa Copper understands that limiting the environmental impact and the carbon footprint of its mining operations is key to mitigating the effects of climate change. To support the continued successful
performance of its mining complex, Kamoa Copper has signed a publicpartnership with DRC’s state-owned power company La Société Nationale d’Electricité to secure clean, renewable hydro-generated electricity.
“Securing sustainable, long-term electricity is essential in the development of Kamoa Copper into one of the world’s largest copper mines,” said Ben.
In addition, Kamoa Copper has pledged to incorporate state-of-the-art equipment powered by electric batteries or hydrogen fuel cells into its mining fleet, replacing diesel-powered equipment.
Ensuring Kamoa Copper’s commitment to build a sustainable legacy in the DRC, it also employs a range of social initiatives to help develop the communities in which it operates.
One such initiative is contributing to successful food-production activities in
nearby communities by uplifting smallscale farmers and enabling them to increase their production capacity.
“This is laying the foundation for increased commercial farming and setting an example for future generations,” shared Ben.
The initiatives include maize production, fruit and vegetable production, fish farming, poultry farming and honey production.
In addition, the business has launched an agronomy school to offer training and research facilities to local farmers. Plans are also underway for a collaboration between the agronomy school and the University of Kolwezi, which will provide further practical training for the students.
“The long-term vision is to continue to expand all of these projects and to diversify into other business opportunities, such as agro-processing,” said Ben
The business also supports mining skills training, which in 2020 saw five operational crews for the Kakula Mine and
two operational crews for the Kansoko Mine trained and deployed. A total of 194 trainees were equipped with skills, including tele-handler, agitator truck and utility vehicle training.
Most recently, Kamoa Copper has established the Kamoa Centre of Excellence, with the first phase of students enrolling in 2023.
The aim of the centre is to retain and develop local talent, the Centre of Excellence will offer degrees, diplomas and short courses in collaboration with internationally accredited institutions. Establishing a Long-Term Logistics Agreement

Copperbelt and Angola’s Atlantic coast, with this agreement marking the first long-term commercial commitment to the railway.
Speaking on the agreement, Founder and Executive Co-Chairman of Ivanhoe Mines (which indirectly holds 39.6% of shares in Kamoa Copper), said:
“The transformative economic corridor will unlock more copper projects due to the lower logistical costs. Cheaper logistics increase the amount of economically recoverable copper across the Copperbelt, as cut-off grades can be lowered. This makes a significant impact on discoveries made in the DRC, such as the recent highgrade and open-ended Kitoko copper discovery in the Western Foreland, where we are stepping up exploration activities this year to find more ultra-green copper metal. Kitoko is located only 30 kilometres from the existing rail line,”.2

The base of the building will house seating, green spaces and public art displays. Foster + Partners Adams hailed the project in the release, saying it will help “supercharge our economy and expand New York City’s iconic skyline,” building on “continued efforts to energize Midtown Manhattan as the world’s most important business address and an economic engine for working-class New Yorkers.”
Architects Foster + Partners have designed the building, which will replace the existing 30-story tower currently at the site in Midtown Manhattan just a few blocks away from landmarks like the Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Grand Central Station.
As New York continues to deal with the economic aftershocks wrought by the Covid-19 pandemic, Adams and his administration said in their respective statements that they hoped this project would continue the city’s recovery.
“This investment opens a new chapter for Midtown — and closes the book on those who predicted its demise,” said deputy mayor for operations Meera Joshi.
“Midtown’s revitalization is being led by its public realm — including investments in Fifth Avenue, with the crown jewels of Central Park and Bryant Park at either end. Together, with our business improvement district and parks partners, we are reintroducing Fifth Avenue to the world and creating a vibrant live, work, play community for a new era,” Joshi added.
Building this new office space comes at a fraught time for the commercial real estate market as businesses struggle to entice workers back to the office after years of working from home.
This has left vast tranches of office space vacant or underused, causing the value of such buildings to plummet at the same time as historically high interest rates have made it harder for real estate developers — who often take out huge loans to finance projects — to make good on their repayments.
The project will begin the city’s public review process early next year and the tower is expected to be completed by 2032, according to the release.
The base of the building will house seating, green spaces and public art displays.
Swarovski has opened a new flagship store in New York, and its glitzy interiors will have visitors stepping into a world of candy-colored crystal.
The new Swarovski on Fifth is a twofloor, 14,400-square-foot retail space that celebrates the luxury brand’s storied history while offering its collections across jewelry, home decor and accessories. It features vibrant colorblocked areas in bright pink, yellow, green, with oversized gem-like octagons appearing all around both the façade and interior — including the shape of an opulent pink staircase that leads visitors through an installation of the history of the 128-year-old brand and its influence on both haute couture and Hollywood.
In addition to nurturing deep relationships with fashion houses including Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga and Viktor & Rolf over the decades, Swarovski has been behind many an iconic red carpet ensemble, from Rihanna’s ethereal “naked dress” at the 2014 CFDA awards, to Harry Styles’ harlequin jumpsuit at the Grammy Awards earlier this year. (And who can forget Doja Cat’s dramatic entrance to Schiaparelli’s Couture Spring-Summer 2023 show in Paris in January, where she arrived covered head-to-toe in red body paint and 30,000 Swarovski crystals?)
Most recently, Kim Kardashian partnered with the company on a new collection for her lingerie and shapewear brand Skims, featuring crystal-covered bodysuits, dresses and underwear. Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow, Billy Porter and Ashley Graham were among those fêting the launch as well as the flagship opening in November.
While a number of new Swarovski flagships have recently opened or are in the works in Shanghai, Tokyo, Milan and Seoul, the Fifth Avenue location in New York is the brand’s grandest yet, meant to “ignite the imagination from the moment you step into the store,” according to a press statement by Swarovski creative director Giovanna Engelbert, who designed the space.
“From the grand staircase to the use of quilted velvet and silk throughout the store, all details are intended to provide customers the feeling of being inside a luxurious jewelry box,” she added. “My vision was to produce a modern, joyful, elevated, and futuristic design, which mirrors the light, energy and colors of New York.”
Fittingly, the flagship will also contain a trove of treasures, according to Swarovski, including the largest crystal chaton ever cut. On the second floor, an all-white boutique offers Swarovski Created Diamonds – its lab-grown diamond collection — as well as a lounge featuring its crystal-embellished porcelain tableware, a partnership with fine china brand Rosenthal.
The new flagships are the company’s “brand temples,” explained Swarovski CEO Alexis Nasard in a video call with CNN. Nasard became the first person outside of the Swarovski family to helm the Austrian company when he took the role last year.
“We felt it was really important that we display the brand in a way that transcends commerciality — that people do not just come to the store to transact,” he said. “We want them to experience the whole values that the brand represents, in terms of its history, in terms of its brand equity, in terms of its collaboration, in terms of its collections, and most importantly, of its customer service.”
Most importantly, Nasard said, the new store exemplifies Swarovski’s own take on luxury.
“Swarovski luxury is not the traditional luxury, which is about snobbism and high prices, and taking ourselves seriously,” he said. “Our luxury is about offering consumers joy, self-expression, selfindulgence, and the ability to be beautiful on your own terms.”
