Negotiating Commercial Leases and Renewals FOR DUMMIES! By: Dale Willerton & Jeff Grandfield This is the book your landlord doesn’t want you to read! And that’s exactly why it needed to be written, according to Dale Willerton who has just returned from speaking to tenant-packed seminar rooms (for the fifth year in a row) at the California Restaurant Show. But Willerton and Grandfield don’t coach and consult to just restaurateurs. The Lease Coach will negotiate for any independent or franchise tenant who leases space from a commercial landlord. “It’s really about leveling the playing field for tenants and helping the underdog that The Lease Coach is all about”, say the authors. Whether you need a lease renewal rent reduction, a new lease negotiated, site selection or a document reviewed, Willerton and Grandfield are the go to guys for tenants. As a former shopping centre manager and leasing agent, Willerton realized it wasn’t the landlord who needed his help, it was the tenant – so over 20 years ago he switched sides. Now The Lease Coach has offices in Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas and Orlando. What really sets The Lease Coach apart from traditional real estate agents is that they refuse to represent landlords, choosing only to work for tenants. “When the tenant is paying our
