Driven by opportunity City of the Gold Coast Tourism Infrastructure Investment Opportunities and Major Project Highlights
Mayor’s Foreword Australia’s Gold Coast is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city offering fantastic opportunities. Located only eight hours from Asia, the Gold Coast is perfectly positioned as an investment, lifestyle and holiday destination. The city enjoys a growth rate of 9% and has access to an economic catchment of three million people. Since 2001, the local economy has doubled in size from $13.4 billion to an estimated $23.3 billion. Tourism, construction, education and health care are significant industries, with local businesses considered innovators in their fields. The city boasts 62 kilometres of pristine beaches, world class entertainment, many shopping precincts and popular theme parks. Eleven million tourists visit the city annually – contributing $4.2 billion to the local economy. Securing rights to the 2018 Commonwealth Games has boosted investment interest with several infrastructure projects already underway.
Shortly, the Gold Coast will launch Queensland’s first light rail network, connecting its entertainment, education and business districts. Also announced are plans for a cultural precinct in the heart of the city and Australia’s largest-ever integrated resort development. In a joint initiative with the Queensland Government, expressions of interest have been called for the development of a cruise ship terminal and associated tourism infrastructure in the city’s Broadwater. Proposals could include hotels, a casino, super yacht marina, retail development, restaurants, entertainment and hospitality venues. The Gold Coast is ‘open for business’ with the new Council determined to elevate our wonderful city to the world stage. I invite you to contact my office should you wish to discuss any of these projects or the opportunity to share in our city’s future success.
