From the Editor

ou only have to take a look at the calendar in opening pages of each issue of Jefferson City Magazine to realize what a giving community we live in. Each issue, we are pleased to open that calendar to those organizations working to make our world a better place to live, and we are pleased to give our readers the chance to stay connected with the charitable event circuit. The Jefferson City Magazine calendar was the inspiration for this new charitable events guide. We know how important giving is to the Jefferson City community, so we designed this publication as your charitable events guide for the entire year. We’ve compiled the necessary details for you to study, plan and give. Browse through the list of deserving organizations and consider how you will participate. Buy a ticket, attend a dinner or consider a sponsorship or volunteer opportunity. Every act of support makes a difference! We want to thank you in advance for giving in the coming months. In addition to the calendar in the front of the magazine, one of our favorite features is our Snapshots pages in the back (you’ll find several Snapshots photos from previous events featured in this guide). We love to highlight who has been out and about, moving and shaking, giving and helping. We look forward to seeing you at events throughout 2012, so keep this guide to use during the course of the year. We look forward to seeing you in our Snapshots pages next year! Sincerely,

Rebecca Rademan

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the wise woman. "I've been thinking," he said. "I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone." – "The Wise Woman's Stone" Author Unknown jeffersoncitymag.com | 33
