THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMITMENT Business, employee, partner agency, Alexis de Tocqueville Society and Leadership Circle donors help make real impact in our community

WHAT IT MEANS TO

LIVE UNITED. IN 2017, we were humbled by the depth of compassion and unity by members of our community. Our mission is to fight to improve lives in our community and we did just that. Through the generosity of community volunteers, leaders, businesses, and charitable individuals our Community Campaign led by Community Campaign Chairs Bev and Allen Curtis raised $2.96 million. We are looking forward to our 2018 Campaign and are excited to partner with you and continue our work in the community. INFORM. Our move to the Community Impact model meant we would need more data to assist in making data driven decisions regarding the needs in our community. In a collaborative project with the City of Columbia, Boone County and the University of Missouri we created the Boone Indicators Dashboard (booneindicators.org) a tool that allows community stakeholders to see data associated with community needs. We use the data obtained through the Dashboard to identify pressing issues in our community,

Andrew Grabau Executive Director

inform strategic funding decisions and assess the success of funded programs. We moved Day of Caring to fall to coincide with our 2017 Campaign Kick-Off and the September 11, National Day of Service. We partnered with the University of Missouri College of Business, launching the MBA Board Fellow program matching MBA students with United Way partner agencies and their boards of directors. Agencies were selected as participants based on their interest in building leadership capacity. MBA students serve on partner agency boards in a non-voting capacity to learn about, and contribute their expertise to, the agency. INVEST. Your investment in United Way allowed us to meet existing grant obligations as well as allocate new grants totaling $449,429.06 under Basic Needs (two-year funding cycle) and $499,798.70 under Education (three-year funding cycle) to local agencies. In all, United Way invested in 45 programs and services by 33 local agencies seeking new solutions to existing problems in the areas of health, education, basic needs, and financial stability. INVOLVE. In 2017, 1,448 volunteers and more than 230 companies gave their time, finances, and talent joining the fight to improve lives in our community. As we prepare for our 2018 Community Campaign we ask you again to partner with us once more. From all of us at United Way, thank you for joining the fight to improve lives in our community, and choosing to LIVE UNITED ÂŽ. For more information on ways to give, advocate and volunteer, visit uwheartmo.org. Heart of Missouri United Way thanks University of Missouri Health Care for their generous sponsorship of this publication.

JOINING FORCES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE Heart of Missouri United Way collaborates with community partners year-round to make lasting change.

BOONE IMPACT GROUP BIG, or Boone Impact Group, is a unique collaboration between Heart of Missouri United Way, the City of Columbia and Boone County. The members of this group share common goals and targets for improving our community’s well-being and draw on each of their unique strengths and resources to maximize impact in the community. BIG coordinates information about community needs and assets to prevent duplicating their work as human service funders, and to ensure that human service agencies are receiving adequate funding and support. BIG is playing a critical role in addressing resource gaps, helping agencies to amplify and coordinate their services to tackle local social issues together. In short, BIG operates on the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts when it comes to meeting community needs together. Heart of Missouri United Way is proud to be a member of this important group! booneimpact.org

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI, DIVISION OF INCLUSION, DIVERSITY AND EQUITY The partnership with the University of Missouri’s Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (IDE) began in the fall of 2017 with the intent of developing a partnership between the University IDE and the Heart of Missouri United Way to deliver grant funding to agencies for projects intentionally designed to incorporate the five dimensions of the Inclusive Excellence Framework into their work. Projects will fall under the five dimensions, which are: 1) Access and Success; 2) Organizational Climate and Intergroup Relations; 3) Training and Education; 4) Organizational Infrastructure; and 5) Community Engagement. Projects will be designed to address deficiencies in one or more dimensions. The dimensions create a framework that will assist agencies in monitoring the progress of diversity and inclusion efforts to ensure that they remain integrated, intentional, and central to the core of the agency’s mission. A series of meetings culminated in a grant to Heart of Missouri United Way in the amount of $25,000 for funding one-time agency capacity building projects, we received RFP from agencies participating in the Core Capacity Assessment Tool (CCAT) agencies on May 1, 2018. The expectation was that Heart of Missouri United Way would incorporate the Inclusive Excellence Framework within its own organization before opening it up to agencies. To that end, we have incorporated the five dimensions of the Inclusive Excellence Framework into our strategic plan.

IN GOOD COMPANY Last year, the employees of more than 260 small businesses, firms, corporations, partner agencies and academic institutions contributed to the United Way Community Campaign that was invested in community programs and services on July 1 for the 2018-19 funding year.
