WELLNESS AT T H E T O P
Well-being in an organisation starts at the top, with the CEO. Employee wellbeing is an issue that CEOs must take seriously, and increasingly this is beginning to happen. However even if a CEO sincerely believes in wellness for themselves and their employees, without a plan this is not likely to happen. The raging pandemic of the last two years has shown how both executives and workers are vulnerable to the same types of stress. As well as how productivity and resilience of a business can be maintained through some well thought out initiatives and empathy beginning at the top. A well designed and well communicated wellness and healthcare plan for employees and executives can go a long way in changing the culture of an organization. It can also work wonders for changing the levels of motivation, initiative, productivity, congeniality, inclusion, stress, amongst employees and executives. We spend a significant part of our human life working in workspaces and remotely. Multiple studies by multiple sources over decades continue to show that a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere and investment into mental and physical health practices creates positive employees. The result is organizational benefits in the form of engagement, productivity, retention. It is the responsibility of the CEO or the top executive to create a culture of wellness within their organization and this needs to be a high priority for them. In the pages ahead we present suggestions on various activities that can be initiated as well as comments from top executives from various types of businesses. Good luck in your wellness initiatives.

Let’s have a look at some of the daily routines that leaders may teach their team to promote a healthier work culture. For this, know that the best teaching technique is to practice things yourself and become a role model for your team.

Being mindful is about paying attention to what is happening within and outside us without judging it. It helps in being more aware of the state of mind and thus creating a stronger connection with self. Consequently, it facilitates the organisation in increasing productivity while developing resilient and a happy workforce. Organisations such as Google, Nike, and Apple have already implemented mindfulness into their culture. Professionals who can coach and teach employees and leaders can help in inculcating a culture of mindfulness while incorporating it in the workstyles of leaders and the CXOs. SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT
We recognise there is no perfect candidate, it is the person that matters most There is nothing culturally different between cybersecurity, IT or any sector for that matter. It is more about progressive organisations versus those that hold a more rigid or traditional view of the workplace and employees within that. The pandemic has forced many organisations to reconsider this stance, particularly as many had to shift to accommodate work-from-home mandates globally. The standard approach of desks within a physical building has been replaced by a hybrid workforce, able to work from anywhere. The biggest challenge for most has been how to secure this fluid and, in most cases, eroded perimeter. The challenges for cybersecurity companies mirror that of IT, and other sectors. Tenable has an expansion plan for the year ahead, in terms of headcount, so attracting and retaining the best talent is important to us. But it is more than that.
We believe that mental health is a critical part of overall health and wellness, and it is important employees feel their best so they can continue to do their best, so we offer resources to help our team plan how they can make mental health a top priority. Around the tenable community, we have a number of peer-inspired initiatives, including a Peloton Slack channel, running and walking groups, and other opportunities for like-minded individuals to get together and network. Chief People Officer, Tenable.

The industry has changed a lot since I started. The times are improving, and diversity is being more embraced. A career in technology can be an amazing experience. You will work with some of the brightest minds and the pace of innovation will continually keep you entertained and challenged. A career in technology does not mean that you must be an engineer. There are many roles in product management, marketing, sales, and other roles that women can consider. High-tech companies are investing and trying to lead by example with diversity and equality programs. This will help with the opportunity to be successful and for career path momentum.

A company that encourages work life balance gets respect A company is made up of people and as a technology company and there is ongoing customers engagement. Customers prefer working with people who they relate to and those who have a similar approach to life. Sports is a common interest that cuts though race, nationalities, and any boundaries. This may be an advantage to Software AG’s business objectives but the bigger aspect here is the benefit it lends to teams and individual employees to lead a better life. Sports is contagious in a positive way. Over a period of time, active sports gets embedded into the fabric of the company’s culture. Some of the joint activities have been the EXPO run, cycling on pro tracks, wakeboarding and running. Early morning gym sessions together is very common and with friendly competitions going amongst each other.
While it has not been a conscious effort to build this association, a technology company that encourages work life balance gets additional trust and respect. It is easier to relate to as it is perceived embodying humane and down to earth traits among its stakeholders. After family and work, sports is the third most important element of daily life. It is fundamental in the routine even with a very hectic and travelling work schedule. RAMI KICHLI
Senior Vice President Software AG.

Life can be compared to a cycle, and it will only stop if you stop cycling. Continuity is important and indicates progress. The ride is a journey similar to the journey at work with milestones and obstacles that come one’s way – customer interactions, roadblocks, challenges, starting point and ending point. True failure is only when one stops. If one keeps pedalling, success is bound to happen. One can achieve more when collaborating with others and therefore cycling teaches and inculcates the spirit of working together with those who lead, those following and adapting to unanticipated changes from the members of the team. Simply explained, it is about working together towards a collective goal to succeed! How to self-compete, achieving personal targets, overcoming challenges, and working as a team are aspects from team sports that have positive impact.
An active lifestyle and sports is important because the rationale is out of belief and not only through practice. While its applicable for all sports, this is explained through the riding experience here. There are two points for everyone to learn. NASRI NASSEREDDINE
