LEADERS of the cooperative movement in Mindanao have launched the 1-Koop Mindanao Party in the first-ever gathering of more than 300 representatives of various cooperatives in the island. Representatives of more than 74 primary cooperatives all over Mindanao gathered Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Pearlmont Hotel in their first-ever Party General Assembly to plot the political future of cooperatives. “This is a milestone for the cooperatives in Mindanao,” said 1-Coop Mindanao Party Interim President Edgar Amoronio, the general manager of the Sta. Catalina Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SCMPC) of President Roxas, North Cotabato.

HE country’s retail industry is expecting a robust growth in the next five years, from P1.32 trillion in 2011 to about P1.67 trillion in 2015 owing to the expanding population especially in urban centers, rising consumer spending and the continued development of organized infrastructures.
Tax collections
TAX collections by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Northern Mindanao last year was recorded at P5.8 billion, higher by 14 percent from the P5.1 billion collections in the year 2010. This was disclosed by Engr. Cecilio Clarete, chief economic development specialist of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in Region 10, during the media forum on the regional economic situationer held yesterday at the NEDA Conference Room. He said the improvement in collections was reportedly due to the BIR’s intensive implementation of its programs such as the Oplan Kandado and the Run After Tax Evaders.
Energy saving
DAVAO City -- Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas recently issued an order for the provincial government offices to comply with his energy saving measures, in a bid to help address the global energy crisis. The Governor released Memorandum Order 197-2012 on March 5, enjoining all the department and division heads, consultants and project managers and coordinators to adopt energy utilization and conservation measures. Provincial information officer Nilda Aninon said that the first directive pertains to all official travels of officers and employees which should be programmed in advance.
