good. clean. fun. Just like children need a good romp on the playground to burn off that hard-to-contain energy, teens and grown-ups need to play a bit, too. There’s nothing like an outdoor adventure to open your mind, clear your head and set you in a new direction.

Here at Adventures on the Gorge, we like to think of our place as a thousand-acre playground where all of our guests—young and old—can romp to their hearts content. Located in southeastern West Virginia on the rim of the scenic New River Gorge and just minutes away from Fayetteville, voted one of the coolest small towns in America, we’re open for great group fun. Group overview It’s been our experience that young people get so much out of the outdoor adventure experiences because they are real, not virtual. Along with all that good, clean fun, they learn and grow, share and meet new friends, and overcome difficult challenges together. Outdoor adventure is about self-discovery and life!

At Adventures on the Gorge, our amazing guides will lead you and your students through this discovery. We understand that each group has specific goals. Through thorough assessment of your needs and expectations, we can help facilitate your objectives. Our goal is to exceed your expectations.

schools Whether you are planning a senior retreat, a field trip or a teachers’ meeting, Adventures on the Gorge can help you set up a trip that suits your agenda. We’ll help you select the perfect outdoor activities that focus on the interpersonal skills you want to build while giving you time for conversation and interpersonal activities. Our experienced customer service staff and enthusiastic guides are ready to listen to you and work out an awesome adventure that will have them talking in the halls and the classroom for days to come.

Colleges Young adults face new challenges when they head from home to campus. If you’re looking for the right place to develop a leadership team, encourage resident advisors to have confidence or have a class that needs a field trip, you’re at the right place. Adventures on the Gorge will help you set the agenda for a visit that takes all of your priorities into consideration. With our diverse recreational choices, your group can enjoy their visit together or in small groups participating in different activities.

Athletic Teams Developing a “team” mentality comes naturally as you challenge the rapids or the trees! Student athletes can benefit from increasing their ability to cooperate with a team, believe in themselves, and connect and set goals with peers. Getting out of the gym, the field or the pool is exactly the out-of-the-box thinking that makes good teams great!

Adult Church Groups A day of fellowship goes a long way towards strengthening bonds and deepening faith. Outdoor adventures create bonds and strengthen trust in a way that doesn’t happen often in today’s society. Whether you need team building opportunities or just some old fashioned “together time,” Adventures On the Gorge experiences will be highlights in a lifetime of memories.

The right adventure As a trip organizer, one of your priorities is to select a trip which is appropriate for your group’s age range, ability, and experience and fitness levels. We can help make that easier with our “Trip Rating System.” This rating system is especially important at an outdoor adventure resort where every activity, from hiking to whitewater rafting, has mild to wild choices. This system will help you determine which trip is right for your group.

On the New and Gauley rivers, each section has specific availability according to water flows and the time of year. Some water levels may not be appropriate for all participants. Our other adventures, while not dependent on seasons, have ratings based on the difficulty and intensity of the activity.

As you plan, we encourage you to remember that you should seek professional medical advice if you, or any members of your group, are significantly overweight, in poor physical condition, pregnant or have a medical condition.

Please see specific trips on pages 33-34 for activity minimum age requirements.

D i n i ng A d v e n t u r e s You wouldn’t normally associate roughing it with an excellent and nutritious dining experience, but that’s exactly what you’ll find at Adventures On the Gorge. Hearty Country breakfasts are served at Buffler’s Grill each morning including sausage gravy & biscuits, eggs, hash browns, cereal, fruit, yogurt and more. For dinner, you can choose the group dinner menu or dine at 2 of our other restaurants, Buffler’s BBQ Grill and Smokey’s On the Gorge, for an upcharge. Packages include the Mountaineer Pavilion dinner menu, which is designed to offer different delicious meals every night of the week. If you just want folks to order off of the menu, we have a fourth option, Chetty’s Pub, for that.

Buffler’s features down-home cooking in a fun and festive environment. Before your adventures, enjoy a hearty breakfast buffet full of your most loved country classics. Buffler’s BBQ dinners include the usual family favorites like our award-winning pork ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork, potatoes, fresh corn on the cob and homemade cobblers.

For another casual dining experience served up with a good time, Chetty’s Pub offers delicious sandwiches, beverages and big screen TVs. When you’re on the go, we serve tasty deli-style river lunches made daily in our own kitchen. You can also order great burgers, healthy salads and more off of our menu.

For a unique fine dining experience, Smokey’s on the Gorge takes culinary adventure to new heights–literally. Entrée selections include a variety of meats, poultry and seafood. Occasionally, the buffet features traditional Appalachian fare such as barbequed wild boar, ribs, grilled quail, morel mushrooms and rainbow trout. Interesting vegetable dishes, sauces and pastas are prepared fresh as ideal accompaniments to the entrees.
