Adventure Within each of us lies an innate need to explore and discover, to challenge ourselves, to learn about and experience nature and to try something new. It is this sense of exploration that makes us feel alive. As outfitters, we feel this passion, this spirit, every day—and it is the driving force behind our desire to constantly push ourselves to be the best that we can be. This adventurous spirit was with our forefathers in the beginning of river running, when explorers like Lewis & Clark and others before them set out on journeys across the country because they craved the wilderness and reveled in the camaraderie they found. To them, this life experience was the only way to live. In our humble beginnings, the founders of our various tribes (Class VI, Mountain River Tours and The Rivermen) wanted a different way of life and a way to share our passion for the outdoors with others. We set out to carve a path for adventurous fun-seekers looking for a break from the daily grind. We followed the adventure muse as seperate companies and as partners in this industry, trying to create the greatest whitewater rafting experiences that we could. A few years ago, we felt the winds of change and decided to join forces to redefine the outfitting world and create Adventures On the Gorge, the ultimate outdoor adventure destination.

TreeTops Canopy Tour™ named in the Top Ten places to zip line on She Knows Living ’s World Tour. O n T h e G o r g e. c o m

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore. Dream. Discover. “Celebrating my 80 th birthday on the TreeTops Canopy Tour was fantastic!”

–Mark Twain

Ruth, OH

The world may be mostly water, but the earth, the air and fire also help to define it. So we took our incredible knowledge of river outfitting and focused on other elements. Our water adventures expanded to include kayaking and smallmouth bass fishing. With some of the best rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking in the east, we naturally took to earth adventures. Setting our sights skyward, we developed a number of worldclass aerial adventures including our BridgeWalk, zip line and canopy tours. These unique opportunities allow you to experience nature while challenging your own limits. There is great pride that comes from conquering nature and a fire within that burns a little brighter each time you try something new. Gathering with friends leads to a companionship that is felt even among strangers, fueling the flame and creating incredible bonds. Topped off with warm hospitality, comfortable lodging and delicious food, this camaraderie elevates the typical vacation to a life-changing adventure.

a Family affair

At Adventures On the Gorge, adventure is always a family affair. We understand that, sometimes, you have to unplug to reconnect. And today, family values—and a solid vacation attitude—mean more than ever. That’s why we offer a world of engaging, reasonably priced activities for all ages that truly bring families together. With so many activities ranging from mild to wild, you can literally bring the entire clan—from the children to the grandparents—and be sure that everyone will be happy and entertained. Kids Camp, available during the summer, is as fun and exciting as it is educational. Rangers on the Gorge and other Friday night hikes are led by National Park Service rangers or naturalists. Even many of our lodging and dining options are designed to bring families closer together.

“Where do I begin? The 4 day “Adventure” was more than my family and I ever expected. We’ve been talking about this for a year, and it was the BEST vacation we’ve ever had. Our guide really knows her stuff, we couldn’t have had a better time. Best of all, my son and I were in the front of the raft, on each side. It was just AWESOME.

½ Day Rock Climbing ½ Day Canopy Tour ½ Day Gravity Zip Lines 2 Hour Rappel 2 Hour Paintball

We went rock climbing, and rappelling on Wednesday morn, the guys were GREAT, and the rain made it absolutely beautiful, The zip lines were INCREDIBLE and our guide’s knowledge of the trees and area made that trip one we’ll always remember.

Disc Golf The ribs at Buffler’s, were the BEST. The band was great, food at Smokey’s was top notch, and Jennifer was always there smiling, and made it all good. I could go on for ever, but the real testimony, was how hard it was to come home. My son, Drew, wants to be a guide there, he’s 16 and hooked! Thanks to everyone for the best vacation ever.” Dave D. Couple Time Sometimes all you need to really recharge your batteries is a little QT with the one you love. Why not really experience something new with each other? You’ll feel all the excitement that you felt for each other in the beginning. You’ll come away with some amazing memories and maybe even learn a few things about each other while you’re here.

explorers of old, Rivermen Whitewater was born from the same wild desire to explore and discover that has inspired expeditions throughout history. For us, whitewater rafting has always been about more than just having fun. It is about capturing the spirit of adventure that only comes from challenging a river and sharing it with others. We want you to feel the anticipation of challenging the unknown and the thrill of achievement once you conquer it. Our distinct philosophy of river running balances high performance rafting with an even higher level of guest participation and instruction. We don’t just want you to go rafting, we want you to take life by the horns and ride the bull! You’ll take pride in becoming a “Riverman.” When you return home, we hope you continue the legacy of telling tall tales of river running heroics. Spring/Summer Gauley 2

3

You’re in for a special treat on this trip because we’re one

4

of the few outfitters offering rafting on the Gauley River during the Spring and Summer seasons. Our staff loves

5

these Gauley River trips because of their ever-changing spontaneous nature. We never really know, until the morning of our rafting trip, what water level is in store for us that day based on the extent of the dam release. The level could be almost anything, but there are some typical trends during these seasons, like duckies in the summer. We will always choose the most fun combination of boat sizes and river section to give you a unique Gauley rafting experience.

Memories for a Lifetime May 27-29 Zoom. Contrast. JPEG. TIFF. The art of photography can be overwhelming. That’s why AOTG is offering enthusiasts a special weekend to learn all about it. After all, the New River Gorge area has PLENTY of gorgeous scenery just waiting to be captured. Enjoy great meals, comfortable lodging and the thrill of experiencing an outdoor adventure activity! Best image wins placement in our 2012 adventure catalog!

Vines & Vodka June 18 Join us for a ‘spirited’ weekend celebrating Napa Valley wines and West Virginia’s small batch, premium spirits! During Saturday afternoon, enjoy seminars from our guest connoisseurs Tag Galyean and Mark Rotellini on: distilling Vodka; wine characteristics; drink recipes; and wine pairings. Later in the evening, apply what you have learned with dinner at Smokey’s!

Fourth of July Weekend July 3-4 What an all-American way to celebrate our nation’s birthday! On Saturday the 2nd we will be hosting a cookout with live entertainment. On Sunday, we’ll provide the cotton candy, plenty of entertainment in the evening for the entire family!

52

AOTG Reunion & Olympics June 11 Be a part of the tradition at our Reunion and Rafting Olympics Weekend! On Saturday evening, enjoy the show as you watch teams of four compete in several “raft” style Olympic Games. There will be a prize for first place, as well as, MVP and Crowd Favorite! And don’t think we forgot about the kiddies. We will be hosting an Olympic competition just for them on Saturday afternoon! Following the games, join us at Buffler’s and Rendezvous for an old fashion pig roast and live entertainment by the Mike Perkins band.

Yoga Retreat June 24-26 Are you in need of a weekend where you can relax from the build up of stress? If so, join us for a weekend intended to revitalize your mind, body, and spirit. During the day, energize your mind and body with classes in yoga and meditation followed by a Canopy Tour to invigorate your spirit. In the evenings, enjoy a bonfire mixer on Friday and a live band on Saturday.

Family Adventure Competition July 9-10 This is a weekend designed for family fun. During the Family Adventure weekend you and your family will be able to create crafts, bond over s’mores, and work together to win the family scavenger hunt competition! Whether it’s an extended family reunion or the families on your block, this weekend will prove that a little QT goes a long way.

O n T h e G o r g e. c o m

Up In Smoke BBQ Festival July 16 Are you a fan of anything barbequed? Do you love to grill? If so, join us for the Up in Smoke BBQ Festival. Pitmaster Chris Shuff will be offering demonstrations on how to create custom rubs and sauces, as well as, the different approaches to cooking meat. End the afternoon by creating your own custom rub and enjoying a BBQ dinner at Buffler’s!

Family Survival Skills Weekend August 6 Are you a fan of Bear Grylls? Have you ever wanted to learn how to survive in the wild like he does? Then join us for Family Survival Weekend! During the day we will teach you the basics of wilderness survival including: how to build a shelter, cook on a fire, and tie knots. Each night we will end with a portion of the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen being read around the campfire YOUR family helped to create!

Raft for the Cure August 20 Do you know someone who has been affected by breast cancer? Are you a survivor of the disease? Then join us on Saturday, August 20 to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Enjoy a day of rafting, food, and camaraderie with a portion of the funds going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

Parrothead Party August 26-28 Do you love grooving to the sweet tunes of Jimmy Buffet? Do tiki torches, parrots, and “frozen concoctions in a blender” make you wish you were in the islands with your toes down in the sand? Then join us for our very own Parrothead Weekend! We will be hosting a themed “Cheeseburger in Paradise” dinner on Saturday followed by live music and prizes for those who best represent what it means to be a Parrothead!

Fire On the Gorge October 1 Got a great secret family recipe that you think will beat the rest of the batch? Bring on the heat! Our 7th annual “un-official chili cook-off” showcases amateur chili masters from all over in a contest that makes everyone a winner! Yummmm! This year, we’re adding a new twist, for those who can’t take the “meat,” with a verde and salsa competition. With live music, good food and guaranteed great time, you can’t miss this weekend.

Motorcycle Rally September 2-4 Summer is one of the most beautiful times of year to take a ride. Why not take a weekend trip to one of the most scenic areas in West Virginia? Join us for our Motorcycle Rally weekend! We will be offering live entertainment, great food, and scenic views that will be sure to appease everyone from the avid rider to the weekend warrior.
