In the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, we offer students an array of perspectives to help them think for themselves. You can explore rain forests in Panama or literature in Spain, present your research at national conferences, or intern with businesses, government, and non-profits in Indianapolis and Washington, DC. We help you take your knowledge beyond the classroom and into the world.
Widely used around the world, Spanish has become the second most-spoken language in the United States, touching all facets of our culture from media to education and business. Our hands-on approach includes study abroad opportunities, service learning, and internships in the United States and abroad. Students get experiences necessary to improve their language fluency, while growing as global citizens. Small classes are led by internationally recognized and published faculty

members hailing from such countries as Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico, Puerto Rico (U.S.), Spain, and Uruguay. What we offer: • Access to Central Indiana’s rich Latino community, with which students interact in social and service learning capacities • Opportunity for students to serve as Spanish-speaking teacher aides in Indianapolis Public Schools classrooms • Study abroad, including facultyled programs to Alcalá de Henares, Spain (one semester, offered every fall) and Costa Rica (three-week summer intensive) • Use of Butler’s student Modern Language Center and its wealth of movies, technology, tutoring, and lounge areas
