Whilecontractioninskeletalmuscleistriggeredbymotorneuronsundercentralcontrol,certain cardiacmusclevariantsexhibitautorhythmicity.Thismeansthatthattheyarecapableofproducing theirowndepolarizingelectricalpotential.Thecardiomyocytesthatarecapableofproducingtheir ownelectricalpotentialsarefoundinwhatisreferredtoastheelectricalconditionsystemofthe heartThissystemiscomprisedofspecializescardiomyocytesthatareautorhythmicandareableto conductelectricalpotentialsrapidly.Thesespecializedstructuresincludethesinoatrialnode, atrioventricularnodeandbundle,andPurkinjefibers.Whilethebulkoftheheartismyocardium, therearestructuralcomponentsthatarepertinent.Thefourcardiacvalvescanbeseenina transversesectionoftheheartatthebaseoftheventricles.
