A report from the White Mountain Board of Realtors

As the 2010 President for the White Mountain Board of Realtors®, I am proud to be the spokesperson for our Board. In 2009, I attended every conference, seminar and convention pertaining to local, state and national real estate trends that I could physically get to, including a leadership conference in Chicago for Board President Elects, and the National Association of Realtors® Convention in San Diego this past November. One of the things I learned was that the national housing forecast is no more useful than a long term weather forecast, and that statistics don’t always tell the whole story. As I’m sure most people know, the real estate industry has been in a slump for quite some time now and it hasn’t been the best time to try and sell a property that was purchased 5 or 6 years ago. The pulse of real estate has been faint at best nationwide, but if I’ve learned anything over this past year, I’ve learned that real estate is local and that not all markets have suffered like Florida, Arizona and Nevada. Those areas have actually rebounded quite nicely in the last two quarters of 2009.

Keep warm weather home improvements on your wish list ... A harsh winter may have many Americans dreaming of daffodils, green grass and open windows welcoming in fresh air. How will you celebrate a day of warm weather that signifies spring has arrived? (ARA) -

Many people will devote the day to spring cleaning. Cleaning windows is the most dreaded spring cleaning chore for nine out of 10 homeowners who intend to take on such projects, according to research from Pella Windows & Doors. Second on the list of least favorites is clearing out gutters or organizing the inside of the home and third is yard work.

Spring into action

Not only will spring bring warmer temperatures and cleaning chores, but a likely wave of remodeling projects. According to Pella’s research, 61 percent of homeowners plan to make improvements to their current home, while only 6 percent said they would move into a home that doesn’t require upgrades.
